Updating Mora

Melvin Mora went down hard in the eighth inning after Angels reliever Darren Oliver buried a fastball behind his left knee. Mora said he couldn't feel his foot for about 45 seconds, but he seemed much better while standing at his locker after the game.

Mora isn't sure whether he'll play tomorrow. It depends, of course, on how the knee responds.

Early prediction: He won't be in the lineup. Aubrey Huff will play third base. But that's just a hunch.

Mora stopped eating and put down his plate to talk to us. I had every intention of waiting. The meal comes first. But the gesture was most certainly appreciated.

Roch --

So who do you think is gonna be pulled from the rotation? What's your hunch on what MacPhail will do?

If you could play GM, what would your dealings be?

If he's healthy enough to stand up and eat he should be in the line up................................................................like it's gonna help. I crack myself up.

Wait, maybe it's an oblique pull.

It takes a lot to get beat by 5 runs by the Angels. When they hang 11 on you, the next 60 games might be uglier than anyone can imagine. Balls will surely be flying around the old ballpark in the Bronx as the same old Orioles roll into town...oh the humanity.

Note to KMillar: The fans of the Orioles mostly wish that the season would end tomorrow. No good will come from playing the next 60 games.

Several weeks ago I asked why the O's weren't in the hunt for Freddie Garcia.
I'm still asking.
Is it because the current starting pitching is doing such a good job?

At least this current streak should wake everyone up and have them realize the team needs LOTS of help. Also the time to trade players are when their value is high (Huff Sherrill, etc.) and not low (Cabrera).
Hopefully everyone now realizes the team is several years away and needs lots of pitching and also infielders (1b, ss, 3b).
MacPhail has a lot of work ahead for him.

Kyle Loshe was signed as a free agent by St. Louis on March 18, he is now 12-2 with a 3.35 ERA. The Orioles signed Trachsel a month earlier. Enough said.

hey everybody, news flash, this team is terrible. from the manager on down. why even post on this blog? seriously. we got guys hitting homeruns against us flipping their bats (torii hunter) like they're playing the f*ing yankees, we got guys flipping their bats when a ball BARELY comes inside (again, Hunter), its a friggin virtual free-for-all b/c every team knows we don't have the cajones to throw a pitch and put somebody on their keester. you think Earl Weaver would stand pat and let that crap that Hunter pulled tonight happen? God no! i'm not even gonna mention what happened to Mora getting beaned. For chrissakes, we're terrible, so why not send a friggin' message that we won't get pushed around? its ridiculous. the O's are the laughing stock of the league and every team knows they can push us around. trembley is soft, and so is this team. look, Trembley talks a big game, and people eat it up when he does his b.s. postgame diatribe where he's almost crying and saying "oh, the Oriole way is what i'm trying to do and the starting pitchers need to get it going blah blah blah"...gimme a break. baseball managers have the easiest job in sports. if your team is good, you're great, if not, you're fired.this team is terrible and nothing short of Earl Weaver can fix it. i am 37 and have been there for the good times, and i was there for some bad times. once again, i am in football mode in July. thats been the case since '97. this will be my last post on this blog until next season. it was great meeting many of you. see ya next year.

Memo to Dave Trembley: Next time you have a pregame talk with Radames Liz (assuming there IS a next time for him as a starter) and make a plea to him about giving the team some innings, be sure to clarify that you want QUALITY innings.

Brian: You said that the pitching coach isn't the problem. Umm, how do you KNOW he's not the problem? I ask because right now he certainly doesn't look like the solution.

Rick Kranitz was hired first and foremost because of his supposed ability to get the best out of young pitchers (he may have such an ability, but I haven't seen it on display this season). Sure, you can question whether Garrett Olson or Brian Burres is "part of the long term solution," but there are plenty pitchers having success in the majors with pretty much the same sort of stuff. (Jamie Moyer has pitched well into his forties--started games for contenders, even--without being dominating. He just gets hitters out.)

More than anything, though, if you want a real indicator of Kranitz' failure to teach effectively, look no further than Daniel Cabrera. He's Exhibit One. He's the guy, more than anyone else, that the Orioles wanted Kranitz to get untracked. And no one can question HIS stuff. Yet after a somewhat promising first couple of months this year, Cabrera's now regressed to where he was in 2007.

Granted, fixing D-Cab would be a challenge for ANY pitching coach, but Rick Kranitz isn't supposed to be just any pitching coach, but one of the best in the business. At least that's what we're being told He's being paid well by Peter Angleos to get this staff in order, and I haven't seen where he's done it.

The reason the staff was decent early on had to do more with the fresh arms brought to the bullpen via trades than anything else. Sure, losing Adam Loewen and Matt Albers to injuries really hurt, but I don't see that that excuses Kranitz' performance. (Unless, of course, that he's working with pitchers who won't listen to or are incapable of understanding what he's telling them. Possible...but ALL of them?)

off the subject, but didn't know where else to ask this question.....
how much narrower are the box seats at camden yards than the outfield seats?

I have attended numerous games with my son this summer. Last night we had the privilege of siiting in the box seat section hehing the first base dugout. Although the view was wonderful, the width of the seat was noticeably narrower and much less comfortable than the seats we have been accustomed to in left field

TX O's fan,,,,,,,,,,,,,,your one of the great fans of Baltimore I'm trying to wake up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you have to rebuild around great pitching , that's what keeps you in games until you can produce the hitters to become competitive with the big boys , and like I said with Peter the Great , great pitching will never happen here................wake up.........

Why didnt Mora stay out of the game after getting hit. It was not worth the risk. And the immediate need for ice is most important to heal.

The O's really need to get Matusz signed...whatever the cost!

Here's a link for an article mostly concerning Mcphail's comments about the status of the O's in the trade market. I think we can all "enjoy" Payton's comments.

Some of u r funny. All u do is wait for Payton to have a bad game so u can rip him. In case you have not noticed, he is not why the Orioles are losing. He usually faces the other teams best pitcher when he plays, and catches everything in the outfield. The problem runs much deeper. His numbers are pretty good conidering his match ups and at bats. So cut the guy some slack. And for those of you who rip on him for swinging at the first pitch, check out his numbers when he does. I guess he is an easy guy to blame for all of your 10 years of heartache.
