Trembley unplugged

Jeremy Guthrie has given up nine hits in five innings and trails, 4-3. He’s allowed runs immediately after the Orioles handed him leads in the first and third innings.

Manager Dave Trembley ended his pre-game media session today by expressing his displeasure with the reporters who stood outside his office and joked around after last night’s loss. It wasn’t anyone in the room, but he obviously wanted the message passed along. He became emotional during certain points. It was an impressive rant, and he got his point across:

“We don’t need people just lingering around. I’m telling you right now, I take it real personal. I don’t like losing. I treat everybody right, I treat my players right. It’s not effective of anybody in this room, but there are other people that are part of your profession that think it is a joke when we get beat. And they’re laughing and joking right outside my door. I don’t treat anybody like that. If they think it’s a party and this and that, go someplace else when the game is over. Please don’t do that to me.

“I live and die with this team. I live and die with the people that are watching this game every day. I give everybody in this room respect. The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life is having to come in here every day and look in that camera right there with all these lights on. When the game is over, I get it shoved right in my face and I answer every question. I don’t back down from anybody. And in return, I want to be treated with respect. It ain’t funny when we get beat for people who think that this is intramurals, because it’s not intramurals. My heart bled last night for Millar. I love him. I love him. If it’s a guy like Leyland, or a guy like LaRussa or a guy like Torre, would there be people outside their office laughing and joking around? I dare say, the language they’d use wouldn’t be like I’m talking.

“I’m sorry that thing (camera) is on right now. But you want to be the ambassadors? I’ll help you out. Then you can help me out, because I don’t buy that sense of etiquette, just like I don’t buy the sense of etiquette of guys with Liz and Cabrera and some of these guys running out when they don’t pitch good and they don’t talk to you. But I’ll deal with it, because I’m committed that while I’m here, it’s going to better than it’s ever been. There isn’t going to be one stone unturned here because I see everything, I hear everything, and I live and die with everything here. Not for Dave Trembley, but for the Baltimore Orioles. And if you think that’s a bunch of poppycock and this and that, people don’t know who I am. They don’t know who I am. That’s my sermon. But I’d really appreciate that some of the people here, that are a little wet behind the ears and don’t understand what this thing is all about, maybe you can help them out.

“I’ve had guys try and help me. I’m asking you to help me out because I’m going to make things better here. There ain’t going to be a sense of complacency and intramurals, and laugh, joke and clown around after you get your (butt) kicked. That’s with my players and the people that are allowed and privileged to come in my clubhouse and stand outside my door. My door is never closed. But last night, when my guts, my guts were telling people it ain’t pretty, I’m listening to people joking around and this and that. I don’t play that game. I don’t play it.”

RIGHT ON DAVE TREMBLEY!

Thank GOD that Bradford saved Guthrie's butt w/o any runs...Guthrie was ready to cough up yet another lead..DUDE! Take the 5 runs and earn a win. I loved Trembley's rant BTW.

So who were the culprits?

And the truth is out...don't bother seeing the X-Files movie:
"My heart bled last night for Millar. I love him. I love him." So now we finally know why the guy is in the heart of the order every night. .

Wow. No wonder I like Trembley so much.

Awesome job Dave!

It's sad that changing the O's [losing] culture nowadays has to include the media and the way they approach the ballclub, but that's the way it is.

MacPhail and Trembley will right this ship. It's happening right now right before our eyes.

Attaboy Trembley.

Lock him up Orioles, or else the city of Baltimore will be outside of the warehouse with pitchforks and torches.

Wish that the ENTIRE content of "Trembley Unplugged" could be seen by every O's fan, maybe in the Baltimore Sun Sports section, I'm in Florida and I read the paper online, just like others, maybe even Dean in
Hawaii and Nebraska Jeff, but the lucky fans in Baltimore can see what a great Manager we have this year and can go to Camden Yards to show support our team.

Just one more thing, I always liked Pudge, but SHAME on him. Last night Roberts, tonight Brandon, what goes around, comes around. Pudge Beware.

HAHAHAHAHA WE LOVE YOU DAVE TREMBLEY.

(now if you'd only give an umpire some of that same fire a little more often)

TREMBLEY FOR PRESIDENT.

I think the media is a joke. People like ESPN, Fox, CNN, etc. are the ones that disrespect the Orioles, Ravens, the City of Baltimore and the State of Maryland. Part of my proof is Tuesday's All Star game when the put up the Majors saves leaders. Fox put up the 1st, 2nd and 4th leaders with NO mention of the 3rd which is George Sherrill. Was that disrespectful or what. So I can't blame Dave Trembley for going off at the media. The man pours his heart and soul out to the media and all they do is laugh in his face. Too bad I am not the manager because my language would be so x-rated that the media would be embarrassed more than I would be. Nobody likes to lose but the Orioles lose with their heads held high and go down fighting. Big deal the Orioles are in last place with a losing record. But at least they have the respect of their own fans. What is going to happen when they are the best team in baseball? I am sure the media will do everything in their power to diss this team, fans, the city and state. I do a lot of traveling and there isn't a city in this country I wouldn't want to live in over Baltimore. So screw the media, you won't get any respect from this Oriole fan.
GO Orioles and Dave Treembley, you rock dude!

A Cabrera fastball in Pudge's ribs tomorrow night. Pudge has been around long enough to know there's a price to be paid for a cheap shot!

Last time I checked, the way to get the media on your side was NOT to attack them.

Damn! It's about time DT was able to pull a rant. Hopefully that'll fire up his players because I think everyone including Trembley is sick and tired of hearing the media circus joke around about how bad the O's are and everything. Believe me, I wouldn't wanna mess with DT because it sure doesn't sound like he plays around. He wants to win and he demands production from his team and he got that tonight. I think he'll be first manager out of this ballclub that will bring the O's back to glory sooner or later.

If it's possible, I respect you more now... I live and die with the O's... more power to you... keep up the good work...

Dave Trembley, I totally and completely support you! And I agree with a previous post that Trembley and MacPhail will right this ship. They're already doing it, helping me to feel truly proud of being an Orioles fan by their gritty day in day out play.

Roch,
I really appreciate this report. You reported something that is really not a typical newspaper type of article but a very important inside look of Trembley.

I think we should all know now: Trembley is really going to take care of the business.

Was it you Roch? You are a sarcastic dude sometimes. You also love to joke around. If it was any of the OH guys. Light them up.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------Not me. I've been doing this long enough to know how to conduct myself in the clubhouse. Trembley didn't name anyone, but there are plenty of part-timers there who don't "get it." - Roch

Attaboy, Dave! If that doesn't sound like the manager of the Baltimore Orioles, I don't know what else does. He's the right man for the job, the team and the town.

4 more years!

I love it that he called the media people out who were doing this.

Tell us Roch, was there any grumbling among the pack, especially those in question? Where they local or out of town reporters?

Roch, I realize that you don't want to incriminate any of your colleagues, but it would be interesting to know if the joksters were local guys or from the visiting team press corps.

Trembley is exactly what this team needs. I am glad to hear him use Liz & Cabrera by name. It's time that some of the players be held to the same level of accountability as the manager. Trembley should get a contract extension immediately! Anyone not on his page needs to be removed from the team.

Does this mean Cabrera is more likely to be traded?

This is just part of the reason that Trembley is the perfect manager for this team right now. Despite some of thoughts thrown around by some bloggers, this guy does know the game, and I truly appreciate the way he respects the game, and more importantly the city of Baltimore and it's fans.

We don't have to agree with Trembley on all his decisions on the field. That's the beauty of baseball. However the guy has a cellar dweller playing hard every night. And no one can dismiss the positive influence that is noticiable in the dugout. Trembley loves guys like Millar for what they add to the team by more than just stats. Regardless of what some bloggers think of the guy, you need the Kevin Millars of the world on a team like this.

Lastly, quit the Earl comparisions. No he ain't Weaver! Who is!! And anyone posting on this blog that can remember Earl's first couple of seasons here in Baltimore, well they weren't exactly Hall of Fame worthy. However what Weaver did have back then, was a productive farm syste, and a solid front office. We're getting there!

ATTA BOY DAVE!

Dorothy, I'm out of range too, worse we lost electricity at 7:30, missed the whole game and would love to know what everyone is talking about, shame on Pudge? Saw Mora's shot on ESPN this morning... I knew I'd miss a good game!

Love Dave Trembley, talked to him for about a minute -- he's not perfect, he's human but he's great for this team.

Actually Earl had quite an impressive record his first couple of years.

1968, started in mid-season won 48 games and lost 34 for a .585 winning percentage and finished second.

1969 won 109 games and made it to the World Series.

1970 won 108 games and won the World Series.

1971 won 101 games and made it to the World Series.

His first, and only bad season aside from his comeback tour, was his fourth full season, 1972 when they only won 80 games but still had a winning record.

I've been an Orioles fan in North Carolina since about 1970 or '71. From the day he was introduced as interim manager, I have admired Dave Trembley for the way he worked himself up to the big leagues and his basic, sensible approach to doing things. When he said he had only three rules, which were 1) Be professional, 2) Be on time, and 3) Respect the game, I knew he was the perfect guy to lead my beloved Orioles back to where they belong. I also remember him saying that he doesn't play golf, doesn't go to cocktail parties and doesn't network - all he does is THINK ABOUT BASEBALL!!!!!! I don't think Orioles fans realize how lucky we are to have a fellow like this in the dugout. If you read this blog, Dave, you have my total admiration and respect!!!!!!!
