« Daniel Cabrera | Main | Last entry tonight »

The lineup

Brian Roberts - 2B

Nick Markakis - RF

Melvin Mora - 3B

Aubrey Huff - DH

Ramon Hernandez - C

Adam Jones - CF

Kevin Millar - 1B

Jay Payton - LF

Juan Castro - SS

Brian Burres - P

Manager Dave Trembley changed a few slots in the lineup, lowering Jones to sixth, because the team's been losing and he doesn't want to stand pat.

Jamie Walker is scheduled to pitch an inning at Single-A Frederick on Saturday.

Payton in for the hot hitting Scott? That part baffles me....

Brian, Trembly is doing the Left handed pitcher Right handed batter thing. I would rather have Scott than Payton no matter what side the pitcher is pitching. So I agree with your question myself. I wish he would stand pat with a line up for a while and just leave it alone. Adam was doing fine in the number 2 spot and Mora was doing good down the lineup.

Tinkering with the lineup means little if Burres can't get out of the 4th.

Can someone tell me why Juan Castro is on this team???

Jay Payton is worthless & has no trade value. Its time DFA him.

I dont understand why Millar continues to get AB's either???

Luke Scott riding pine tonight?? Odd

Fahey > Castro

*groan*

Brian, Scott is .250 with 3 homeruns in 64 ABs vs lefties. Payton is .269 with 6 homeruns in 67 ABs vs lefties. It's simple math, regardless of how hot he's been.

Am with you Brian.....screw Payton !

How is moving Jones down in the order going to help our starting pitching?

Never been in favor of change for change sake.

Hey does anyone know where to find the probable starters for the Baysox. I am planning on going to see a game next week and want to see Tillman pitch.

Hopefully in five more days he won't be able to stand pat, either... Please let's hope... light some candles... cut the heads off some chickens... anything... To get DCab out of Baltimore... Please get a real pitching prospect for someone, so Oslon can go back to being another 4-A pitcher... And oh yeah, how about a shortstop, too.

"p" is for PLEASE!!!

Roch,

Jayson Stark has a blog on ESPN about the trade deadline upcoming. He says that the O's have targeted the Brewers as a team they would like to deal Sherrill to based on their interest in Alcides Esocbar and Matt Gamel. Have you heard anything to support this?

Also, Jones isn't a #2 hitter to begin with. I think the 6 spot is a good spot for him. Payton has been getting the starts in LF when a LHP is starting. Hopefully Payton will capitalize and we can ship him out of here.

Roch , i know you like to keep us informed on all players and you do a terrific job, but reporting on walker is a waste of time because his impact doesn't matter one bit or another at this stage. All i hope and pray for is one day you can report on daniel either getting traded or getting released.

I'm getting sick of seeing Castro's name in the lineup. Why are we wasting at bats on him? We drafted Fahey twice, (he must have been smart the first time), yet Tremble refuses to let him play for any length of time. Not saying he's the long-term answer, but he has got to be a better answer than a 36 yr old guy who has been cut more times than my lawn this summer. Why not give the homegrown kid a chance?

O's fan in Chapel Hill,

There's virtually no real difference in LHP stats of Scott and Payton

.250 vs .269 and 3 vs 6 HR ? whoopee do

Who hits better, for more power and plays better OF, day in / day out?

A: Scott - NOT Payton

DT's wrong on this one

Mr. Lancione, don't you think Roch is tired of your complaining about how he runs his blog? Roch, thanks for the updates. I, at least, appreciate it.

Why not try Jones in the third slot? Mora simply can't bat there anymore. He is the one that should be hitting sixth or lower. And why do they keep running that decrepit scrub Castro out there at shortstop? He sucks worse than Bynum. Why can't they just let Fahey play the position that he honestly earned all the way back in Spring Training? This is ridiculous!

I don't know why some of you seem to focus so much on Jay Payton. He's not the reason why the Os' are losing. The guy has 33 RBIs and 6 HRs in half the amount of at bats as the other players. Take last night for example, he came through for the team when he got a clutch hit that almost turned the game around & seemed to lit a fire under them. Then, for some reason, Trembley chooses to take him out of the game to put in Luke to play defense for him. It's poor decisions like these that If you want someone to blame, you've got your man right there.

Of course, had the pitching been on par, the O's wouldn't have had to play catch up all night and probably would've walked away with the win.
