The lineup
Brian Roberts - 2B
Nick Markakis - RF
Aubrey Huff - DH
Ramon Hernandez - C
Luke Scott - LF
Melvin Mora - 3B
Kevin Millar - 1B
Adam Jones - CF
Brandon Fahey - SS
Garrett Olson - P
Jeremy Guthrie received ice treatments again on his left triceps muscle after being hit by a line drive off the bat of Adam Jones last night. Guthrie was talking to Kevin Millar and never saw the ball. Brian Burres, who was positioned on the opposite side of Guthrie, thought the liner was going to nail him.

Saw Bowie play in Harrisburg last night. Wieters has a laser for an arm. Threw out one of three would be base stealers. The two guys who made it clearly stole on the pitcher, David Hernandez.
Hernandez wasn't dominating, but when he was removed after six and one third he still had a shutout. As someone mentioned earlier today he has only given up 3 runs in his last 25 innings and I might add, only 7 hits. That's dominating.
I'm guessing though if a starter is called up from Bowie it would be Bergeson. His control is superb with only 13 walks on the year.
What do you think Roch?

Cabrera would've hit the dirt!

Roch,
A guy named Austin Surhoff from NBSC qualified today in the semis for the 200 IM. Is this BJ's kid?

Yes it is. - Roch

I was wrong for a day about putting Ramon 4th in the order. Actually, on second thought, its not bad because he gets a couple good pitches to hit because Luuuuuke is really hitting the ball well. But I think having Millar hit behind Mora won't score Mora any fat pitches...

Glad to see Millar dropped to 7th. Huff is playing good in the field, why take him out to DH him? He is probably the most consistant player we have right now. Good thing Guthrie wasn't hit in the right arm or he would be the next to go on the DL. Pitching is thin enough as is.

Roch,
Are there any new rumors on the SS shopping front?

Wow, Guthrie does have some tough luck. Very little run support (except for one 9-run explosion) but when he steps out on the field during bp, the bats come alive and a ball is hit so hard at him that Burres thinks it will pass through Guthrie and hit him, too.
Burres owes Guthrie one. Adam, just keep on ripping it.

Assuming Andy MacPhail does not pick up a young shortstop at the deadline, Orlando Cabrera becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
His numbers are down this year with the White Sox and he is 33(ancient according to some here), but wherever he goes the team wins. Red Sox, Angels, and now the White Sox. I was surprised to see that he's making $10 mil this year. Offer two years at 15 mil total.
Most importantly he becomes our much needed #2 hitter. Sign Texiera as well and the lineup for 2009 looks like this.
2b - Roberts
ss - Cabrera
rf - Markakis
1b - Texiera
3b - Huff
DH - Scott
cf - Jones
c - Wieters
lf - Riemold

Interesting to see Fahey get his third (? I think) start in a row, even with the 0-fer last night. To me it seems like Bynum starting to take a lot of close pitches before he got sent down, like he couldn't get the bat off his shoulder. He's better than that, though, and he just needs to try to have good at-bats.
Roch, has there been any apparent disputes between Trembley and Bynum?
I don't understand why someone doesn't work with Fahey's swing. I can't tell if it's just odd looking because he's so scrawny, or if there's something that could be improved. He looks like he just goes up there and slaps at the ball.

Recently read where the Marlins are looking for bullpen help and a veteran catcher. They have 3b Dallas McPherson, formally of the Angels, on their AAA team. A left-handed hitter he leads the monirs with 29 homeruns. He also has 101 K's and 52 walks. His OPS is ober 1000. Soon to be 28, could he be a Carlos Pena type player?
We have Ramon and Chad Bradford. It makes sense to me.

Here's a link to the 200 IM results.
Austin barely qualified, but still, he's in the semis at the U.S. Olympic Trials! How many swimmers can say that?

Ray,
I don't think that anybody on here calls 33 ancient, but I'm one of the guys who says you shouldn't sign guys in their early 30's to long term deals. Statistics have proven that historically players begin to fall off around 31-33. They can still be productive, but too many teams make the mistake of paying them like they're still 28-30. We did this with Mora and he's been getting worse offensively each year since he signed and we're paying him as if he's still in his prime. I don't have a problem signing Cabrera to a 1 year deal, but trying to lock him up long term would be a mistake.
We desperately need a real SS prospect.

Gotta love the lineup changes, it was well past time though. Hope these guys do well tonight so DT won't say he "tried" making a change. Go Orioles!

Eckstein???
More like Yuck-stein.
We've got enough lousy-hitting, weak-fielding shortstops....pass!!!!!!!!
Talk to Philly about their AA shortstop Jason Donald.
