The imperfect storm
The timing won't be great, but it's going to happen.
We have a nice 1-1 tie that's about to be put on hold. Storms are coming from the east and the west, ready to make a sandwich at Camden Yards. The grounds crew is positioned behind the tarp.
Woe is us.
Aubrey Huff hit his 17th career triple in the fourth inning, his seventh since joining the Orioles last season.
Jeremy Guthrie has thrown 80 pitches in five innings. It's nice to see a starter who hasn't reached triple figures by now.

To be blunt what the hell is Ramon Hernandez doing behind the plate? His mechanics are terrible.

Can we sign Rick Dempsey to be catcher for the last 60 games. He has to be an improvement at this point over Ramon. How about we trade Hernandez to the Yankees for Ponson?

I posted this comment on both blogs but what do you think about a blockbuster with the Cards. We give them Roberts and Sherrill to fill two major needs. They give us Colby Rasmus to complete the young outfiled, Chris Perez a pitcher with good stuff, and a young shortstop with good tools. There is question about the availability of the #5 prospect in baseball is available but I think this trade would work for both teams. What do you think?

Congrats to Jay Gibbons who is now on a team with a chance to win - the Milwaukee Brewers!

Nice to see the Tides lighting up Jeff Weaver tonight. Bukvich is a starter now? I guess the don't have much else to choose from. Arrieta is lights out for Frederick again tonight.
I know AJ has been uneven, but he sure would look good in our rotation. He would be one of our top two starters. I am sure he'll cost too much for what he brings to the table, but he has nasty stuff . He lives here and I'm sure he would love to come here.

Nice introduction of Disco "Don" Ford during the pregame ceremonies.

Well let's see now, Mazzone, who was and probably still is a pretty good pitching coach gets made to look like a total hack by the O's pitiful staff the last 2 yrs. Kranitz, the worker of miracles with young arms, the guy DT had to have cause he can develop young pitchers like nobody ever in the history of the game, now heads one of the worst staffs in the majors, consisting of guys pitching worse, if that's possible, as the season wears on. Hmmmm, can those 2 guys really be that bad?
Or maybe its the 2 lefties who can't make it to the fifth ining without throwing 107 pitches and turning the
Mendozas of the world into FRobby. Maybe its the 2 righties who have hardly a clue where the ball is going when it leaves their hand.
DT said it right, if there were people to take their place, they'd be here. And you thought AM was joking when he loads up on pitching. Rebuilding at its finest.

We are getting the t-storms and boy is it loud. The lightning looks like a July 4th celebration.
I agree about Guthrie and 80 pitches, wish the other starters would take note.
Roch anything on the trade front and Matusz negotiations?

I have something oj Matusz nagotiations. Baseball America is reporting that he is holding out to see what Aaron Crow of the Nationals will get. He will base his asking price on that. However he still expects the deal to get done.

On Rick Kranitz and the pitching staff...
we have to have talent in the first place.

To talk about rebuildings' post about trading sherrill and roberts for rasmus, and TWO other prospects: that is ridiculous. That package alone might not get rasmus by himself, scouts put him right up there with Jay Bruce, so the Cards are very hesitant to trade him, and if by some miracle he does end up coming here, it won't be with a good pitching prospect and a middle infielder to boot. If he's traded, it will be by himself.

"Baseball America is reporting that he is holding out to see what Aaron Crow of the Nationals will get. He will base his asking price on that."
If true, the Orioles made the wrong choice. Most players base what they get on previous years or what the players drafted ahead of them receive. How odd is it to have a guy basing his decision-making on what someone drafted 5 positions after him gets. Are his feelings going to be hurt if Crow signs for more? Talk about a prima donna with a sensitive ego. I really hope this is an unfounded rumor.

I was at the game tonight and it confirmed what I have watched on TV all season. Hernandez has become a terrible defensive catcher! There is nothing that he does behind the plate that is fundamentally sound.

re: Gibby/Milwaukee.... do the Brewers think they're back in the AL? do they even understand what a defensive liability he is? do they know they already have a good 1B? they already picked up a pretty good every-fifth-day bat in CC. maybe he signed on board to be their cheerleader. who knows. (he's no Millar, but really, who is?)
