Still Liz
Radhames Liz struggled to get through the fifth inning, but he’s got a 6-2 lead and he’ll return for the sixth.
Adam Loewen warmed up earlier. The Orioles need six complete from Liz, at the least.
His pitch count's at 67 through five.
Liz hit 96 mph earlier and didn’t appear to exert much effort in doing so. Nice and easy. The kid has an electric arm. He just needs to repeat his delivery.
Melvin Mora is 2-for-28 with seven strikeouts. That qualifies as a slump.
Heading into tonight, Luke Scott had 13 homers since May 13, tied for second in the majors. His .664 slugging percentage was third.

Congrats, Roch.
Liz not coming out for the 7th? I think I would tempt fate and send him back out.

Mora has been in a slump since opening day. They can't find a SS, so thet sure as hell aren't going to be able to find a 3B.
Too bad Scott Moore has had a crappy AAA season.
Is Craig Worthington busy?
They're lucky to be rebuilding and able to let Liz work things out on the ML level... like they had any choice.
It's a team of 4 #5s and one ace (for whom they score zippo).
Weiters and Tillman on the 2009 opening day roster!!
Which makes me think, have the O's had more obsucre backup C's than any other team in baseball?

Wasn't a pretty first inning back but no runs for Loewen! Awesome job. Liz was productive as well. Go O's!

Wow, Gobble is still in the league. Maybe Adam should talk to this guy about being a 1st round bust.

When Mora had his couple of big years with back to back 27 HR and over 300 averages, he did it by going to right field and not trying to pull everything.
tvdpdxv - every team's backup catcher is "obscure", um that's why they are backup catchers.

Thanks Roch...i swear it looked like numbers..maybe just the way the lights were..How long before Lowen is in the rotation?

you gotta be kidding me trembley, is he trying to get sherrill's arm to fall off, there is no reason he should be in this game, trembley has to get better at managing his bullpen

Our pitchers need to throw strikes! A quick check of the stats once again showed that we are at the top of the AL in BB. How many times has the BB came around to score? We have numerous pitchers that are averaging over 6 BB per game, totally unacceptable at the MLB level.
Case in point-Safrate comes in and walks 2 of the first 3 guys he faces...I got my fingers crossed!!

Awesome game! Solid starting pitching, clutch hitting, great job by Loewen, and oh what a job by Sherrill! Take that all you naysayers!

"Hey there...Georgie Sherrill, punching out the batter 1-2-3"( sung to the tune of Georgy Girl).
Talk about excorsizing demons...1-2 count and tying run at the plate with 2 out.
Atta boy George !

Roch, does your award allow you to bestow honourary citizenship on us outsider type reprobates?
Do we get special rates at any Hotels?
Answer the second question first .

Scott in Johnstown Pa--I thought I kept seeing the number 52 every where I looked in the stands.
Didn't catch the numbers on the warehouse, but couldn't help but notice the face of Nostradamus in the Esskay Hot Dog sign.
I see three grilled red hots in my immediate future.

Melvin needs to stop trying to pull the ball. As a poster posted on this blog, he needs to go the other way, and just serve up a single. After all, pulling the ball doesn't mean you'll hit a HR, and I think that's what Mora wants to do. He wants to hit outta his shoes to break his slump.
His at-bats have been good, he's been watching the pitches, but when it comes to hit, he just cannot.

Still Liz:
What's in a name? Is it still Liz or is it now Leez as Gary Thorne eluded to last evening?
Posted by: Bobby T | July 2, 2008 11:35 AM
Thorne is not very good at pronouncing names- he also isnt good at distinguishing a fastball from a slider. Thorne is not a good announcer. I would rather hear Palmer. At least he says things that are true.
"g" for gary thorne is a bum
