Loewen announcement
It's coming in about 20 minutes.
The Orioles have scheduled a 5 p.m. news conference with Loewen. He's expected to undergo another surgery to repair the fractured bone in his left elbow, but there could be more to the story.
I'm not going to feed the rumor mill. When we know exactly what's happening, I'll pass it along. His agents are here. And manager Dave Trembley wisely decided to delay his session with the media until after Loewen speaks - Trembley originally was going to meet with us at 4:30 p.m. - so he can take questions on the subject.
Here's the lineup:
Brian Roberts - 2B
Nick Markakis - RF
Melvin Mora - 3B
Aubrey Huff - DH
Kevin Millar - 1B
Luke Scott - LF
Adam Jones - CF
Ramon Hernandez - C
Brandon Fahey - SS
Daniel Cabrera - P

Comments
What's with the line-up changes?!?
Why is Mora hitting third and Adam Jones all the way down the order?
Can you ask these questions for me, Roch?

Loewen has been a major dissapointment with all the arm problems another reason you don't give a young pitcher a huge contract and a gaurentee spot on the major leauge club nevertheless it is what it is. Hopefully everything will work out for him this time and for the time being move on with our losses

This doesn't sound good.

I don't understand why any sane person would put mora higher than 7th in the lineup.

look for loewen to become an outfielder when he recovers

So Ivan Rodriguez is not in the lineup tonight. Hmm. With the anger (at least on many fans side) over his kick of Fahey last night, I wonder if that is coincidence? Will Cabrera send a message with a pitch towards someone else on the Tigers or allow Brian Burress to take on that responsibility tomorrow?

Loewen was a big time hitter back in JUCO, but the chances of him becoming Rick Ankiel are pretty slim. Ankiel is a freak of nature (see also, Hamilton, Josh). In any case, hopefully he can make his way back through the minors that way and have a decent career. Good luck Adam.
