Jones scratched

Adam Jones was supposed to start in center field and bat second today, but he rolled his ankle while stepping on first base last night and has some swelling. He's no longer in the lineup.

Melvin Mora was supposed to get the day off, with Aubrey Huff starting at third base, but that plan was nixed.

Here's the new lineup:

Brian Roberts - 2B

Nick Markakis - RF

Melvin Mora - 3B

Aubrey Huff - 1B

Kevin Millar - DH

Luke Scott - LF

Jay Payton - CF

Guillermo Quiroz - C

Juan Castro - SS

Brian Burres - P

Greg Aquino, on the disabled list with a hamstring injury, will undergo an MRI and report to the minor league camp in Sarasota, Fla.

Jamie Walker will pitch a simulated game at 3 p.m. Tuesday before the Orioles decide whether to activate him.

Roch -- Off the subject .. I heard you are leaving the Sun with the buyouts this week. Say it ain't so ... And if so, will you keep an Os blog somewhere else?

Why does Dave Trembley start Aubrey Huff at first, when Kevin Millar has played so well there? I could see it if he was giving Millar the day off, but such is not the case.

As for Jamie Walker, if I were the Orioles I'd be in no rush to get him back on the active roster as horrendously as he's pitched this season. At the very least, they need to get Alberto Castillo some work as the situational lefty to see if he'd be ready to take over for Walker, should it become apparent that Jamie can no longer get the job done.

Hope Adam Jones is alright. Roch, have you heard if he will be back tomorrow?

Because I don't really want to see Payton in center.

It's the ol' day-to-day thing. - Roch

Roch,

Your response to the third post, with no response to the first post (as well as the similar one last week), is speaking volumes. Say it ain't so!

Are the O's trying to break the Sunday losing streak by wearing their batting practice jerseys in the game today?

I agree with JPA, Anita plays that "girl" card when convenient. Her ...run... was much shorter than the 2 poor slobs huffing & puffing to 1B & 3B , & she still barely won. I bet she hasn't run that fast since Roch chased her around the MASN studios the last time.....

Sounds like Greg A is a smart guy.... Trembley to Greg... "Fella you can go on the DL, make ML pay, spend a few weeks in Sarasota on us, or go to Norfolk & make minor league $$ & probably be there until Sept., your call..."

I'm with Ben except I don't want to see Payton on the field period.

Why didn't Luke Scott run hard back to third when the throw bounced off Ivan Rodriguez's glove during the run down? Palmer's explanation was "he made up his mind he was going to be in a rundown" and that is what Dave Trembley preached to them the other day. How about playing baseball properly--avoiding an out when they give you the opportunity to do so? Scott would have scored on the ensuing ground out. Bad baserunning continues to abound.

During last night's game Gary Thorne described the throwing arm of Curtis Granderson as an "absolute cannon", yet today he just described it as "barely average." First ,which is it? Secondly can we get someone to do play by play who isn't making stuff up as he goes along. He stinks,he is the worst I have ever heard. He knows nothing about baseball.

On the subject of replacing people - can we PLEASE replace Brian Burres? This guy is a joke...he is bad the first time through an order - awful the 2nd time through...and he gets lit up if he ever gets to the third time through. Having the Orioles continually roll out these pitchers (Olson, Liz and Burres) is really disheartening. I find myself paying less and less attention and resigned to next year.

Roch will have a sweet situation if he leaves. First, he's a good talker, so TV and radio will pay to have him, though they'll try to get him cheap. He clearly has no financial sense; he worked for a newspaper.
Second, he's popular enough online that it would benefit a TV or radio station to seek sponsors for his blog, which they would surely find. The combination of video, audio and his writing would provide plenty of port-a-jons, I mean portals, through which readers could obtain his s ...I mean reporting and writing.
Seriously, his star would climb dramatically. The only mistake would be to use him online in video and audio without the writing. Some of us still like to read.
I'd love to see him do play-by-play and remove the Thorne in our side (whose voice, to its credit is better than Buck's and whom I like better than Manfra or any other recent seat-warmers). Proctor is good. Roch and Proctor, on TV. Can you dig it?
