Down on the farm
I’m back at the laptop today. We’ll see if I can stay here.
Thanks to all for wishing me good health.I’m heading downstairs in a few minutes to copy down the lineup. In the meantime, Jamie Walker and Alex Cintron reported to Single-A Frederick today and Cory Doyne is pitching for short-season Single-A Aberdeen on his injury rehab assignment.
Chris Roberson is hitting .607 (17-for-28) in his last seven games at Triple-A Norfolk.Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer last night for Double-A Bowie and has nine RBIs in his last three games. Chris Tillman struggled again, allowing five runs and walking four in four innings.
Single-A Frederick’s Brandon Snyder hit his ninth homer, and Jake Renshaw tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.
Eric Perlozzo drove in three runs at Aberdeen.

Sounds like Tillman may be getting tired as the season wears on. Not unreasonable. I'm guessing that he'll get shut down a little early or given a week or two off.

Glad you feel well enough to make it in to give us info Roch. Wow what a dismal past month for the O's. Tillman's struggles are discouraging. So when are the trades coming for the Orioles?

so roch, do you see any more promotions? I'd like to see Weiters moved to AAA for the rest of the year. Snyder, Montanez, and Reimold I'd also like to see promoted a level to see how they will adjust. I was very impressed with Bowie's 3b, Jeff Nettles. He is a little older, but to me seems he has put up big power numbers, but never got a chance at a higher level. What do you think?
Blake Davis is another player who impressed me defensively and I think eventually he'll be able to hold is own offensively.
What are your opinions?

Let's back off on the negative talk on Weiters. He is signing right??? Be happy with that. I was at a game in Harrisburg a few weeks ago and he was the ONLY one who signed. Give the guy some credit for doing that and don't put a damper on a potentially great player before he even arrives in Baltimore!
Also, for some of you wandering why Reimold hasn't been moved to AAA. Many players today go straight to the majors from AA. Talent is probably as good if not better there.

All these posts about Matt Wieters being gruff and unfriendly makes Erik Bedard look like Mr. Congeniality! (Now there would be a battery for the ages.)
Hope people were just catching him on bad days. (Then again, the way he's been tearing up the minors this season, I doubt that there have been too many bad days. LOL)
I just had a "genius" thought. Remember how this spring Rick Kranitz got Brian Burres to come sidearm on some of his throws to left handed hitters to give them a different look? Well I propose Daniel Cabrera do the same for righties.
Do I think that's going to turn his season around? No, of course not. But I do think it could make for some priceless bailouts by hitters who already know that D-Cab is wild, can throw nearly 100 mph when he wants, and has a reputation of throwing at batters. For instance, a batter steps in the box (oh, let's say Dustin Perdroia) and he knows that the Great D-Cab Sidearm Experiment is underway. As the hitter gets ready for the pitch, suddenly out of nowhere alarms go off in his head and a large sign flashing "DANGER! DANGER! DANGER!" At the same time, an involuntary reaction kicks in and his front leg turns into rubber, and as the pitch is delivered he's halfway out of the batter's box.
In other words, all the ingredients for loads of fan fun!!! (Please, Daniel think about it. No, really! Do it for your fans. You might not make history, but you'll sure be on a lot of blooper reels! LOL)

You know was just sitting here thinking about Rodrigo Lopez about how he picthes into 7 or 8 innings every game. I would take four of him and DUMP Daniel Cabrera , Garrett Olson , Radhames Liz all at Bowie and ship Brian Burres to the freaking Moon

Maybe Roberson gets called up if Payton gets traded?

Brewers fans are worried that their team is going to give up too much just to get Sherrill. Shortstops JJ Hardy and Alcides Escobar (minors) have been mentioned...
Escobar looks good: .334, 7 HR, 61 RBI, 25 SB for AA Huntsville
And he's blocked by Hardy: .299, 14 HR, 45 RBI for Milwaukee
That's the sort of situation we need to find, and take advantage of. But I'm not sure I want to see Sherrill go, ether.

Ray, you're absolutely right, at least he *was* signing. There were a few others that were, too, luckily and their fan-interaction was like night and day in comparison. Maybe we did catch him on a bad day, who knows. It was a little disheartening, as he's got to be aware of his own hype. Sources back at Tech (okay, family of a couple of his teammates) said he was often like that back then, too. Eeek.
In better news... Jeff Nettles played a really great 1B last night; made some scoops that saved some truly awful throws. Blake Davis had some key hits and was pretty pesky on the bases; he was able to distract the pitchers very effectively, even though I don't think he actually stole a base. And Steve Torrealba? Really? He's still playing baseball? He's been in AA for about ten years, it seems. He bumbled out a double that I think even Millar could have made into a close play at home. Hopefully tonight's game will be better. For all Birds.
