Burres battling
That's 54 pitches in three innings for Brian Burres. He's already allowed seven hits, but he leads, 3-2.
Lance Cormier was warming in the third, but he sat down. Manager Dave Trembley would love to squeeze five innings out of Burres.
Burres hasn't gone more than six innings since May 22.
What are the alternatives for the rotation? Cormier would probably be the next choice. There aren't many options.
Burres is tied for the team lead in victories with six despite a 5.09 ERA. Maybe that gives him a little more rope. But manager Dave Trembley's patience is being tested.

Comments
Why would that give him rope? Wins are a stupid stat to rate pitchers by, just compare Burres with Guthrie this season as an example.
Burres is still in the rotation simply because the O's don't have anyone better that they want in the majors at this point.

Tillman has to be called up to see what he can do. He played AAA last year for Seattle and he's dominating down in Bowie.
I've heard scouts and baseball experts say that if you can handle AA you can handle the Majors.
Good thing I'm not a GM, haha.

Why would anyone put Jay Payton in the number 2 spot of the lineup? His OBP is under .300, and he is the least selective hitter in all of baseball. Is it ignorance, wishful thinking, or a conspiracy?

Matt - Tillman pitched at Wisconsin (A) and High Desert (A+) last year.

It was Kam Mickolio that pitched at AAA - as a reliever.

Hey, where is the blogger who chastised me when I predicted, after his first forgettable appearance with the O's, "that Bukvich would not help the O's because he wasn't even effective at Norfolk?" I believe I was portrayed as a profit of gloom, yet I see the big right hander, who was totally ineffective during his stay in Balto., is now no longer with the organization.

Burres should feel lucky he didn't get bombed tonight... He really didn't have it tonight, the Rangers just didn't capitalize...

Roch, what are the statuses of Xavier Avery and LJ Hoes? I know that we already signed them, but have they been assigned anywhere yet?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Avery is hitting .205 in 11 games in Gulf Coast Leauge, and Hoes is hitting .189 in 11 games there. - Roch

JR,
Ah, it was Mickolio that pitched at AAA. My apologies.
Whats up with Dave telling the press he wants his starters to go deeper into the game but yet pulling them at 70 and 80 pitches?

If Jay Payton makes that play, which any decent outfielder should make it might be a different ballgame. That's an error plain and simple. And Captain Hook is reminding me more and more of Sam Perlozzo and Lee Mazilli before him.

Hey Deke,
What's a "profit of gloom" ?!?

dougfresh--Deke's "profit of gloom" means cashing in when you predict bad things.
Looks like Deke is happy that he cashed in.
