While waiting for the first pitch...

It’s always fun to watch Miguel Tejada “stretch” before batting practice.

Tejada left the group to shakes hands with B.J. Surhoff, who was standing behind the cage. Once that conversation ended, Tejada took a seat on the ground…and just sat. Finally, he hopped to his feet and began dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough,” which was being piped through the PA system.

Some guys are loose before they take the field.

Players in the home clubhouse aren’t content to win another series. They’re talking about the importance of winning tonight and completing the sweep.

I’m sure you’re all excited about having the chance to watch the pitchers bat during the next three interleague series. They’ve been taking batting practice, or something resembling it.

“I told them I don't want anybody sliding head first. That's No. 1,” Trembley said. “We spent the better part of 2½ weeks just bunting and swinging the bat, just from the standpoint of getting comfortable with a bat in your hands. Maybe not getting any blisters or anything like that.”

There will be the expected restrictions.

“I certainly wouldn't expect guys to score from first on an extra-base hit. I don't think I would squeeze with a guy on third,” Trembley said.

As for the best hitters in the bunch, Trembley said, “I can't watch some of it, I'll tell you that. I just divert my attention and look elsewhere. Some of it's not very good. And some of them really think they're pretty good, which is really a stretch. I like the guys that tell it like it is, (say) they're not any good. I just tell them to go up there, and you're going to get the take sign.

“Guthrie can handle a bat a little bit. Burres tells me can. He's pretty good in BP, but I see a lot of those 5 o'clock hitters. I want to see it at 7:05. He thinks he's playing in junior college at Oregon. This is the big leagues. (But) Burres swings a bat OK.”

Trembley’s going to have to figure out what to do with his lineup without a designated hitter. Aubrey Huff can’t sit out every night. If he plays first, that puts Kevin Millar on the bench.

To keep them both in the lineup, Huff would have to play third.

Trembley had more fun at Millar’s expense today. Of course, the subject was Millar’s bleached hair.

“The first rule of inappropriate behavior is to ignore it and hope it goes away,” Trembley said. “Unfortunately, Millar’s not going away.”

Man! Are those Seattle people talking about Erik Bedard or Terrell Owens ?

Sidney "Do you know who I am?" Ponson to the Yankees? Ha! The Yankees are fools for thinking he's worth a try. The bars serve until 5 am in New York! Wait until the first Sunday morning game he has to start. And he's no David Wells.

While I think Bedard is a moron for being such a smartass (and meaning it), he was a hell of a pitcher for the Orioles last year. Remember the 15 strikeout, zero walk complete game shutout? I was so pumped that night.

Roch, what's the possibility of seeing Huff at third, Mora at SS, and Millar at first?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not very good. Trembley doesn't want to move Mora to short - unless he's had a very sudden change of heart that I'm not aware of. - Roch

Move Mora to SS for some of the games without a DH. Wouldn't be a good infield defense but Bynum and Cintron are fall from gold glovers at SS and their offense skills are poor.

I read that Mariners blog from the link left by Kevin on Shore. Did you see how short all those posts were? How did we get so long-winded?

Anyway, Trembley just keeps getting better and better. Listening to him soooo beats the gum smacking, Dr. Katz-like-shaking Perlozzo from last year.

...Miggy sprinted down the line on the double play ball. Amazing what a change in scenary can do but I still would not have booed him since he otherwise played up to expectations while with the O's.

Anyone know the definition of a smart*ss?

Someone who can sit of a scoop of ice cream and tell you what flavor it is.

Any chance of trading a bag of bats for Bedard and then trading him to Cincinnati for Jay Bruce?

Your interleague lineup: Millar at 1B, Mora at SS, and Huff at 3B?

Wow, Cintron looked like one of the girls on my co-ed softball team when fielding and throwing on Matsui's infield single. He kind of even looked like a left-hander throwing right-handed just to try it out.

"Any chance of trading a bag of bats for Bedard and then trading him to Cincinnati for Jay Bruce?"

All joking aside the O's tried that over the offseason and the Reds turned them down flat and ended negotiations.

Hey everyone. Let's quit wasting time discussing/gloating the (mis)fortunes of Bedard and Tejada. They're gone and it's time to move on already!
We should be spending our blog time analyzing the '08 Orioles and giving opinions, etc on where we go from here. For example, I like the idea of picking up a guy like Bill Hall, especially if we can trade players who don't figure into our 'rebuild'. If the Brew Crew will take Walker/Payton or Burres or a combo thereof, let's do it!
I also think that we shoul seriously consider trading with the Tigers for a guy like Inge or Thames in exchange for one of our surplus arms or two. They loved Walker and they are short in the 'pen.

Rekognize.

Roch, you're the mac-daddy you dog. Brian, your "do the drapes match the carpet" question was great - an instant classic for RATC. I was thinking the same thing when reading the true blonde comments, but couldn't have said it better than that. So Roch, WAS it based on research?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only if, by research, you mean her telling me. I actually asked her once, for whatever reason, and she said she had just had it lightened a little. Maybe that's what inspired me to do the same. - Roch
