The folks at Norfolk
Triple-A Norfolk has added infielder Luis Hernandez and outfielder Jeff Fiorentino to its roster.
Hernandez cleared waivers and was outrighted. The Orioles claimed Fiorentino off waivers from the Athletics.
The Tides had one open spot on their roster after the Orioles recalled pitcher Radhames Liz. They made room for Fiorentino by assigning infielder Mike McCoy to short-season Single-A Aberdeen.

I hope neither player is on the 40 man roster they both sux.

I wonder if the O's could trade a pitching prospect like Hayden Penn to Texas for a bat. They've got a surplus. Besides Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley's numbers are what we all wish Markakis' numbers were right now: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting?split=0&league=al&season=2008&seasonType=2&sort=onBasePct&type=reg&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&state=0&college=0&country=0&hand=a&pos=all&startDate=null&endDate=null&minpa=0
A 1.091 OPS behind Markakis would be nice if it wasn't Milton Bradley.

This all sounds good. Now clear a spot in the rotation for Tillman.

Let Luis play second base - he looked so much better there when he was with the ML team. He could play there if we trade Brian.

Are the technical difficulties affecting the broadcast in Baltimore, too?
Posted by: Almost Believin' | June 8, 2008 1:17 PM
So is infielder Mike McCoy, like, looking for a teaching job? That's quite a drop.

Wait. We got Luuuuke, Safarte , and Albers and more for Miggy? I mean, Miggy was cool and all but somebody's gotta be feeling pretty good about that trade.

I don't think I even want to know...but how the hell did Brad Wilkerson steal home?

Double steal. Ramon Hernandez threw to second, Wilkerson broke for the plate and beat Brian Roberts' throw. - Roch

In the spirit of don't rush Weiters comes don't rush Tillman. Yes he is doing well in Bowie...for 5 innings. He strikes out alot of guys and it looks impressive. But so didn't Liz last season...even threw a no hitter. But when he got to Baltimore...well not so good. Point is this. No need to move Tillman to Triple A at all in 2008. He is 20 years old. He needs to learn to pitch past the 5th inning and learn like it seems Daniel Cabrera has that striking out everyone isn't the most efficient way to pitch 7 or more innings. Stop trying to push every prospect having a good season to the next level. That isn't the best way to build success in the future of both the player and the team.

ESPN Gamecast said that Payton was tossed in the 4th. What was he arguing?
Posted by: patio | June 8, 2008 2:30 PM
Withe #9 hitter up there is a reason they try the double steal - becasue otherwise a hit is needed to score a run. That said, I guess it is hard to just let a guy walk to 2nd?
Texas batters have good numbers yes - but it is a different situation there...they have no pitching and therfor are seldom if ever pitched around...would not be the case in baltimore.

Is there anything more frustrating than a pitcher who comes into the game throwing balls? Strike one being the best pitch in baseball would serve Albers well.

Texas isn't going to give up a proven major league hitter for an unproven minor league pitcher. You have to give proven quality to get proven quality, unless someone is just trying to dump salaries.

We need another Bedard trade. Finally we stole one. Do we have 3 untouchables ? Jones, Wieters and Nick? For the 1006 time Mac. Do your magic. So far so good. You ARE the man!!

Why is the ShamWow guy wearing a headset?

What's going on at Norfolk? Brandon Fahey has been hitting well and has his average up to .306, and then they give the starting job to Luis Hernandez? What gives?

100 games to go. Roch, is there an intangible advantage at this time respecting Trembley's AAA experience ? Do you believe it gives him a good feel for the Liz's and Olsen;s of the world ? At some point this season , I think yourself or one of your associates should revisit Trembley and get his feelings after one season of Managing ( anniversary of Perlozzo sacking for instance )

Nice to see the O's showing a power awakening. Believe it or not, they now have 5 guys that have 9-11 home runs and 4 players with 29-34 RBI's. With a third of the season gone, a guy like Mora might have a chance to drive in 100 runs. Wouldn't that surprise some people?

While the Orioles relief pitching has been pretty good all year, they have allowed earned runs in 13 of the last 15 games in which they have appeared. Hopefully, this is not a sign that fatigue is starting to set in.

We seem to have good chemistry on the team so why add a wild card like Bradley? He's a milder version of Albert Belle, not to mention that he's injury prone. There's no denying that the man can hit but the negatives outweigh the positives so let's look elsewhere for offensive options.
Actually we've been hitting better lately but I'm still not sold on the idea of Markakis hitting 2nd.

Hey Roch,
Any word on why Sid was released from theRangers??
Posted by: William R. | June 9, 2008 8:03 AM
Sorry if I am a little behind about this, but this is too funny:
• Rangers // Former Orioles pitcher Sidney Ponson was designated for assignment. Texas general manager Jon Daniels said Ponson, who was 4-1 with a 3.88 ERA, was sent away "for disrespecting teammates and club personnel."

Now Bedard is rumored as trade material(see Cnnsi truth and rumors).
Seattle is doing a fair bit of hand wringing over the lack of leadership from the players. In addition , apparently Bedard is not too fussy about the first catcher, Johjima.
The Yankees are of course rumored to be circling like a shark and they do have what Seattle needs ...bats.

have we all noticed Tejada's numbers go way south over the past few weeks? he usually waited post-all-star break to do that for us. but without b12 (wink wink) and actually being ?35, the season gets longer and longer
Posted by: Will | June 9, 2008 9:43 AM
Fiorentino. Please give Oriole fans a break and find some position players that can hit .

Deke-- good points. At some point posters will have to stop saying that Millar, Huff, and Mora are holding the team back because a lot of players who are paid way more than these guys are not producing like they are. They are all top 30 RBI-producers in the AL. I won't bore you with the complete list but they are above guys like ARod, Matsui, Lowell, Hunter, Matthews, Konerko, etc. At any rate, they aren't superstars but they are doing the job at the major league level. Of course they aren't the long term answer but one can't assume we will automatically be much better by replacing one of them.
Improvement of this club will rest on pitching and I agree that the relievers will get worn down if we can only rely on JJ, Albers (until yesterday), and Sherrill. I have stuck up for Trax but his roster spot has become too valuable and much to my surprise guys like Olsen and Liz do not look like lost souls on the mound. Seems that only Aquino or McCrory would warrant a call-up but neither looked ready for the bright lights last time around.
The FO definitely has some hard choices to make in the next few months!

I'm guessing those are old photos, since Sidney has a full head of curly black hair. At least he did the last time I saw him. But he's obviously misbehaving again. - Roch
