More pitching problems
Brian Burres has left the team because of a reoccurrence of his stomach ailment. He underwent a CT scan that came back negative, but he's questionable for Monday's start against the Kansas City Royals at Camden Yards.
Just what this team doesn't need with Matt Albers injured.
Manager Dave Trembley said he didn't know who would take Burres' place in the rotation, but he eliminated Hayden Penn from the discussion before the right-hander's name came up.
Albers is here. He's going to get a second opinion before deciding whether to undergo labrum surgery.
Adam Loewen didn't make it to Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles have him throwing an inning tonight at Double-A Bowie, in front of team personnel, before deciding what to do with him.

This more solidifies the reasoning to go after a pitcher right now. C.C. or any other pitcher. We cannot depend on our farm-grown pitchers. Penn, Loewen, or the other starters haven't even shown anything. We need to look outside the organization and pull off a steal.
I'm sick and tired of other teams getting big name pitchers. I know we are in a re-building mode, but we can always go a little overboard once in a while, to go get that front-line starter. Keep in mind, pitching is always votaile so it has to be a really established starter like C.C. or other dudes.
We will have to see what happens.

They can tell Brian Matusz that if he signs today he can start on Monday!

Front line starter? Are you kidding? Why mortgage the farm system that only recently could be considered "restocked" (and even that's in question) in attempts to overpay for a front line starter in trade? We're not one piece away from the playoffs. We're in the middle of rebuilding mode. Our best pitcher and best hitter got us 10 players, and we're only a couple games about .500... we'll have to trade quality to get quality and the job's not even close to being done.
I would think the recent problems with the pitching staff, exposing our lack of depth, would cool the optimistic talk, but I guess some are still the rose colored glasses are comfortable. Don't get me wrong - this team is fun to watch and more exciting than clubs from recent years. That said, I think a lot of people are letting a hot streak confuse the bigger picture.

People! Please stop suggesting Mora play SS--ever! He is no SS. Period.
Maybe it's time to give--gasp--Jim Johnson a start? Cormier? ...Bueller?

Baroquen131-I agree with what you said , granted what you said is not going with those who drink O's Kool Aid , but you being realistic , not hopeful or optimistic . No one said Rebuilding is complete or easy.
"We not one piece away from the playoffs" . Well said !
Go O's and stop swinging at the first pitches please !

Their is no need to go out and get C.C. because we could never sign him to a long term deal. What we need to do is go down on the farm and give of our young guys a chance.

We are running out of healthy pitchers. Before you know it the entire Norfolk pitching staff will be in Baltimore. Hopefully Beird and Loewen will be back to bolster the bullpen.
I noticed Matusz' name was mentioned. Roch any news to his contract negotiations? I think most of the draft choices are signed.
As for Mora playing SS, he can't play 3B. I like him better on the bench until he starts to hit. I think Cintron is better than Mora

Dave, you are flat wrong. Mora is an excellent third baseman. (But I agree he shouldn't play short.)
