Catching some heat
Brian Roberts is hurting. It's either his back or hip, but something appears to be wrong with him. He was wincing and looked uncomfortable after swinging through a pitch in the third, and eventually struck out. Head athletic trainer Richie Bancells was watching him closely from the top step of the dugout.
Ramon Hernandez began the night having thrown out nine of 53 runners attempting to steal. That’s 17 percent, and that’s not good.
It’s not all his fault, of course. The pitchers need to do a better job holding runners. But Hernandez is struggling in all facets of the game, and manager Dave Trembley said earlier today that he’ll consider giving backup Guillermo Quiroz more starts.“Consider is an understatement,” Trembley said. “I’m all for what’s best for the team. But I think you have to give respect to the veteran guys who have been here and played for a long time and I think you have to go the extra mile before you go to that measure. But once you go to that measure, I think you communicate that to all concerned parties.”
Trembley was ejected in the third inning for arguing balls and strikes. It's the second time he's been tossed this year, and both times he's been in the dugout.
Roving catching instructor Don Werner is coaching first base while John Shelby attends his son’s high school graduation.

Comments
The Cubs are probably fiving each other ever day over not trading for Roberts.
Is Paul Bako busy?
Dave Huppert?
Dempsey?
Get used to it. The O's are going to be looking up at the rest of the division for the rest of the year.
Nice job, Huff. 31 RBI could mean a ticket out of here and a couple of prospects in the O's pocket. That's where McPh shines. Nobody will miss Huff.
Roberts, Markakis, Jones and Scott...none of them over .270. Enough to make ya drink.

I really don't see how Wakefield gets away with throwing 60-65 mph constantly, even if there's a lot of movement on the ball. The O's are starting to hit him now but they have so much time at the plate to get a good read, I don't understand why they haven't been smashing it more often.

Can we just walk Manny Ramirez?

Albers in the pen warming up, looks like Liz for tomorrow...

He says you have to give respect to the veterans who have played for a long time. What bullshit , ramon was in his dog house last year for being out of shape and not hustling. I don't see one bit of improvement this year. In fact he couldn't throw me out stealing and that is saying something .

I guess Albers wont be starting tomorrow

how about kevin cash would be leading the o's in hitting....this is just a miserable offensive team...i just don't think they can get any worse.
The sooner the housecleaning continues, the better for all parties concerned. At some point it's just not funny anymore. If someone offers you anything for Millar, why not would you take it?

Gary Thorne has no idea what's going on...for the 2nd time this season (that I've seen), he asked for replays of line drives over 3rd base to see if they crossed 3rd base in fair territory before landing in foul territory, explaining that having done so would make them fair balls. I know he never played baseball, but 8 out of 10 3rd graders know that rule from kickball. .
Palmer was EXTREMELY diplomatic in his response / explanation.
Great to see Trembley fighting for his players.

Why go to Johnson when Albers had thrown only 3 pitches? Argh.
If you are disappointed in Roberts' numbers, consider that he's having a rough season and still has numbers that are substantially better than Jeter. In fact, the alarming comparison there is that the Oriole with offensive numbers closest to Jeter (one point higher OBP, two points lower slugging) is: Kevin Millar. Think Yankee fans are calling for Jeter's trade or release?

Have you Freddy Bynum fans noticed that your favorite shortstop is being outhit by 28 points by Luis Hernandez. Now we have two shortstops that can't hit and one that can't throw. Where is Willie Miranda when we need him?

Just noticing the performances of 3 ex-Orioles who are now with the Cincinnati Reds.
Jerry Hairston is playing SS and in the 32 games since his callup, is hitting .344.
Paul Bako is the starting catcher is hitting .248, and get this, has 4 home runs!
Corey Patterson has really tanked as he is hitting .200 in 145 AB's.
They can keep Patterson and Bako, but Hairston and his bat and speed would look pretty good in the Oriole lineup, as the O's shortstop.

I speak badly of Adam Jones and he turns around and gets a big hit. Way to go Adam, keep it up.

What was the deal with Trembley's reaction to the question about Tuesday's starter? Was he genuinely hacked off?

No, he likes to joke about us always trying to pry information out of him and putting him on the spot. - Roch

Actually Roch that is the third time Dave has been tossed and he was out of the dugout. In Tampa last week in the Friday game. I only know because I was there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was No. 2 for this season, according to the Orioles. And he had returned to the dugout at The Trop after making a pitching change, came back out to argue after being tossed.- Roch
