With ears still ringing...
If the Orioles go through with plans to put “Baltimore” on the road jerseys, they should wear them whenever the Red Sox come to Camden Yards.
There had to be more noise here for Manny Ramirez’s 500th home run than anything Fenway Park could have generated.“We block that out,” Jamie Walker said. “You knew coming in what to expect. It’s a lot cheaper for Boston fans to come here and watch a game than go to a game in Boston. You just block it out and try to do your job. It (angers) me. Yeah, it does. But the only way you win your fans back is you beat them. That’s how it goes.”
I assume he means beating the Red Sox and not his fans.“It’s just part of the game,” Jay Payton said. “It’s Boston, it’s close to home. Boston fans can’t get tickets in Boston for the most part and a lot of fans want to be a part of history. You’ve got Manny hitting his 500th home run. You understand it. The first time we played them here this year, there wasn’t quite the following.”
Twenty-four players are part of the 500 Home Run Club – which I believe includes valet parking. Three Orioles pitchers have served up the milestone homer – Bradford, Stu Miller (Mickey Mantle on May 14, 1967) and Mike Cuellar (Harmon Killebrew on Aug. 10, 1971).Manager Dave Trembley removed Garrett Olson after 89 pitches because three straight right-handers were coming up – in case anyone was curious.
David Ortiz had X-rays on his strained left wrist that came back negative. He's day-to-day.
To the reader who asked why Jim Johnson has been limited more to one-inning appearances, Trembley doesn’t want to “overextend” him this early, and it’s a new role for him.

Ramon Hernandez's Line For The Night:
2-4
1 Run Scored
0 HR, RBI or SB
4 LOB
3 stolen bases permitted
1 dropped ball that allowed what became the winning run to score
Better than last night, but he still stinks. If Quiroz isn't starting tomorrow, I say Trembley's taking money from Jacoby Ellsbury.

About time that the O's returned Baltimore to the jerseys. I hope that the York fans aren't too put off. York has always been Orioles country.
It's always painful that Red Sox fans invade Camden Yards, but probably more painful that the stadium is pretty empty when it's not a Boston series.

Removing Olson worked out well.

Trembley does realize that Johnson was a starter, right?
I know there are differences in pitching between starting and relieving, but I don't see where he can't do what Albers is doing, only better and in critical situations.

Why do you take Olson out after he's only given up 2 runs and thrown 89 pitches a night after your bullpen worked in a 13 inning game?Get ready folks, the Trembley excuse routine is getting old.More errors, more baserunning mistakes and more managerial miscues, sound familiar?Yeah this team is more competetive, but as the losses mount, let's see how competetive they are come Aug and Sept.Adam Jones is going to be a very good ballplayer ,just not right now,he is usually overmatched.Unfortuntely we have Bynum,Cintron,Quiroz and Hernandez on our bench and either Payton or Scott. That doesn't scare anybody, and neither Walker or Bradford can hit 90 on a fast radar gun and have been ineffective for most of the year.Is the trade deadline close yet?The only good thing is that the Angeloser might agree to trade Roberts if we're out of it by the end of June, but then again this is Peter the Great we're talking about. Is anybody surprised that the talk of putting Baltimore on the road jerseys coincides with us playing sub .500 baseball over the last month and finishing May 11-16?When we gave away at least 5 games?

we had "Orioles" on the road jerseys in '79, '83, '96, and '97...much ado about nothing if you ask me. just play good baseball and win games. living out here in California, it sucked to see all that red at Camden Yards tonight...go to the games people! if i could i would...hell, i'm FLYING to Chicago to see them play the friggin' Cubs 3 times!

Roch:
I was surprised that Olson was removed after 5...I thought he was our best option, needless to say he was pitching very effectively.
Okay, now that I've got that out of the way, can we perhaps change the picture on the web site of Ramon dropping the pop up to perhaps a different angle...maybe Ramon dropping a throw from left field from Payton? Is he afraid of getting hit or what? I'm thinking he's already walking around in a coma, perhaps a jolt wake him up!

Keep Millar at first. He's far better than Huff I believe, at that position.

everyone naturally assumes the boston fans are traveling to baltimore but the real truth is most of 'em live down here and work down here because ....
wait for it ....
BOSTON SUCKS.
PS. Yay ROAD JERSEYS!!!

Everyone can make excuses, but the fact is that if O's fans were excited enough to go watch their team in Boston, they would be SOL because Red Sox fans have gobbled up the tickets from the time they first went on sale. Until we're ready to do that--like we used to be--no one can complain about playing "road" games at home. In this market (which is my home) the support of the team is never going to be there unless they win. That's the way it is almost everywhere except Fenway and Wrigley. It also hasn't helped that the decade-long losing streak has coincided with the erosion of the Baltimore business community (most companies once based here are not anymore), toughening economy and arrival of the Nationals. This thing is going to come down to us folks. If the support doesn't increase, we can be the KC Royals. It's a bit of a chicken and egg problem. It looks like Andy McPhail is doing his part. Will we do ours?

Much of what Trembley says and does is contradictory. He doesn't want to "overextend" Johnson, which is understandable. However, to remove your starting pitcher after 89 pitches, five innings, 3 hits, and only to runs makes no sense at all. Are you not then overextending your entire bullpen? Particularly after a 13 inning game and six relievers being used the night before.
Don't worry about three righthandrs in a row, especially with your team ahead. Give Olsen a chance to get thru the inning. If a couple of runners get on, then maybe he's had enough.

The offensive juggernaut known as the Baltimore orioles continues to roll...
Soon enough, the lineup will be without a 250 hitter, at which time the baseball bylaws allow the team to petition for 'hardship' runs status Here's how it works:
A team is awarded partial runs after any inning in which the team fails to score but leaves guys on.Getting a guy to third - .75 runs, second would be half a run, first base would get a quarter run.
And you wonder what the Competition Committe does during those winter meetings....
And why is there a week off before the frst game of the NBA playoffs? It's not like it's a Superbowl-type week.

Ok so I have a question. Has anyone noticed how Aubrey Huff gets out almost 90 % of the time? If a pitcher throws him a high and away fastball, he grounds out to the second basemen, every single time. I made that observation about 15 games ago and I swear it happens all the time. Do you think anyone on the Orioles could maybe recognize this and teach him that with an outside pitch you drive it to left? I'm sure other teams have picked up on this, why cant he just wait back for the pitch?

How depressing. Every time Manny's 500th HR is replayed, we get to see our stadium filled with red jerseys and celebrating Red Sox fans. These last two losses have me feeling demoralized. I really hope we can bounce back today.
At the risk of sounding like Bob, what's the deal with Walker just being brought in to face one batter? What a joke.

The results are more important than the name on the Jersey and the results have been abysmal for ten years with no immediate relief available.
