No Hoey in 2008
Reliever Jim Hoey underwent surgery about two weeks ago to clean out his right shoulder, and he's done for the year.
The Orioles never made an announcement, but manager Dave Trembley informed us of the procedure during his pre-game session with the media.
Sometimes, you just have to ask the question.
Now we know why Hoey had trouble getting loose this spring and had to be shut down for at least two days after pitching.
Rocky Cherry is starting his injury rehab assignment tonight at Double-A Bowie. He's scheduled to throw one inning. If that goes well, he'll pitch another inning on Friday.
Sometimes, you just have to ask the question.
Here's the lineup, which includes Ramon Hernandez, but not Melvin Mora:
Brian Roberts - 2B
Jay Payton - LF
Nick Markakis - RF
Aubrey Huff - 3B
Kevin Millar - 1B
Ramon Hernandez - C
Luke Scott - DH
Adam Jones - CF
Freddie Bynum - SS
Daniel Cabrera - P

Roch,
Thanks for the updates on Hoey and Cherry. I've seen updates on pretty much all the other injured pitchers except for Cory Doyne. Is he even still in the organization?

Doesn't Mora realize that a lefty is going today?
Payton second? I'd have Bynum there, he could probably bunt Roberts over, hit behind him, etc. Payton , I predict ,will ground into 2 DBs tonight by trying to pull outside pitches & simply rolling them over to the SS...
Maybe Cherry gets Walker's spot after the rehabs if Walker continues to have problems. The main thing stopping that is walker's fat contract. Roch, does Cherry have any options left?
I can appreciate the good vibe Red Sux stories in the previous blog, BUT I still resent the way several come here, act up, & do their best to be annoying. IF I am in the other team's stadium, I watch , root, etc BUT I don't try to p!ss off the locals. These "fans" & the Spankee ones are a primary reason I will not go to the Yawn to watch the game. I don't suffer fools well or for long, better to avoid the whole scene.
Let potter count his money & let these dolts keep being annoying & obnoxious. Then potter can keep wondering why he gets 8K for most of the other teams that come to town....

Why is he batting Hernandez ahead of Scott?? That doesn't make sense?
I would bat Hernandez between Jones and Bynam...or actually have Bynam batting 2nd and Payton last. Just my opinion!
