Done with the delay
The Orioles and Royals will try to squeeze in five innings tonight. And nobody is happier than Kevin Millar, whose three-run homer provided a 3-0 lead in the first.
I'll never understand why a game has to go five innings or start over from the beginning. What's the harm in resuming it tomorrow with the Orioles ahead, 3-0? And I'd say the same thing if the Royals were leading.
Honest.
Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk's Radhames Liz fell to 0-4 after losing Game 1 of tonight's doubleheader with Pawtucket. Liz allowed three earned runs and four hits over six innings, with four walks and six strikeouts. His ERA is 5.22.
Scott Moore went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and is batting .156. Brandon Fahey had two hits and an RBI, but he also committed an error in left field.

Hey Roch, Why is Roberts out of the game. Did he get hurt?

I feel real bad for Vernon Wells of the Blue Jays. A broken left wrist really has to hurt. He did a heck of a job trying to dive for that outfield fly that put him on the disabled list today. But can someone answer why he's on the 15 day disabled list if he's out 6-8 weeks. Six weeks is what 44 days? Eight weeks is about 58 days. Somewhere around there.
I feel good that the Blue Jays brought up Armando Benitez. Let's see what he has now. I hope he has some good years left.

Roch,
The notes story says Ramon is "day to day" with his sore wrist. Can you say Ben Davis - in that it only needs to be a stopgap measure?
By the way, the suicide squeeze in the pouring rain was a great call. Despite the worsening conditions, what if they DON'T call it? You always need as many runs as possible, in case the Royals have time to come back.
And what's all the indecision about going to a 4-man rotation? It's a great idea, particularly since you're adding a fourth bench player for the Red Sox series.

Roch, why is Trembley having such a quick hook with some of his starters? The only issue I've had with him this year is the handling of his pitching staff and his "gut reaction" pitching changes.
As well as the O's are doing, this is still a year to evaluate Talent. Pulling Olson after 88 pitches, with the lead in a 6-2 game is ridiculous. How is Olson ever supposed to gain confidence and learn to work out of jams if Trembley pulls him like that with a 4-run lead? Unacceptable in my view.

Not meaning to hurt anyone's feelings, but Mark Viviano is an improvement in terms of sideline reporters. And when he wasn't there the other night, the main announcers took care of everything Amber does without skipping a beat.
w is for when is that wonderful Weiters wandering up to Baltimore? But not yet. It just sounded good.

I do not have access to watch the game on tv, but I read that Brian Roberts left the game with a bruise on his left foot. How serious of an injury is it? Do you expect him to play on Sunday?
Posted by: Jimmy Jam | May 10, 2008 11:30 PM
What is the extent of Brian Roberts injury??? Nothing is being said in MLB

Roch,
What's the deal with Walker not being able to get anyone out anymore - he's turning into a liabilty.
Posted by: gary | May 10, 2008 11:40 PM
so when are the O's gonna address the jamie walker problem. the guy talked junk all april about the media saying the O's were crap, but he has done nothing to back up his words. he is horrible. if you are a lefty specialist and can't get leftys out then what good are you? i can't remember the last time he got a good lefty hitter out...has he? get rid of him! he's become the lefty trachsel. terrible!
Posted by: winston | May 10, 2008 11:41 PM
The Mets need a lefty....Lets trade Walker to them for some single A player. Walker is terrible this year. He was fine last year, but he has nothing on his fast ball and his slider has no bite at all. Send him away...along with Jay Payton please. Walker is going to give this game away!!!!
Posted by: RichD | May 10, 2008 11:42 PM
Maybe he was just put in to make Johnsong look good?
Posted by: gary | May 10, 2008 11:46 PM
Jim Johnson is amazing....He should be rewarded with a start sometime this year. I know we need him where he is, but next year he should get consideration as a starter! Walker should kiss his ring finger when he came into that dugout!!

Re: Jim Johnson
You cannot put a price tag on what he just did in the 7th inning. This was a combustible situation that last year would have been on fire.
Re: Jamie Walker
As I said at the start of the season, older relief pitchers are like the Queen of Spades, you don't want to be holding them when the game ends. His velocity appears to be off and his location is FAT.

George Sherill is the spitting image of Dan Stanhouse. He gets the job done even if it takes a whole pack of cigarettes.
Posted by: ron | May 11, 2008 12:30 AM
Hey, Roch what happened to Brian Roberts? Did he pull a hamstring or was he traded after the first inning?
Posted by: ron | May 11, 2008 12:32 AM
Holy crap, George...made that one a little uncomfortable there. A save is a save, a win is a win...but a little less 9th inning dramatics would be much healthier for my heart!!
Jamie is better than this, I hope he gets himself straightened out soon. I'm almost wondering if his reduced mound time due to him being used almost solely as a "left specialist" hasn't been the cause for his loss of sharpness.
Now here's to hoping that the Birds give the Baltimore moms a present tomorrow and take another one from the Royals!!

Who needs BRob when Luis has the same BA and is flashing some serious glove? Luis played 2B like a man possessed tonight!
What an incredible performance by Johnson! Sherrill makes me nervous...maybe Johnson is our future closer (nevermind Ray)...something is seriously wrong with Walker.

Any word on Roberts? I did not hear how he got injured. Hope it isn't serious....
Posted by: Todd Beall | May 11, 2008 1:02 AM
All I got to say for that, down at the farm...
OUCH!
Keep on going, men! Get the W's!
Posted by: Ben W | May 11, 2008 2:33 AM
Scott Moore might not play for the O's again this season, but his spring training numbers did keep Jay Gibbons off the roster, so we should thank him for that.

How stupid is Jay Payton to get himself tossed over the check-swing call???
Trembley had to put in the only healthy reserve he had. If someone else had gotten hurt (or tossed), I'm sure that we would have seen one of the pitchers in the field. How about McCrory??? He hasn't done anything in 10 days.
The O's need to do two things during the off-day tomorrow.
One - send McCrory back down to AAA and bring up a position player (Fahey? Moore??). We can't go with such a short bench - especially when we are not going to need all of the pitchers over the next stretch of games with the 3 off-days.
Two - give Jay Payton his walking papers and bring up Terrero or Redman. Jay's worth is decreasing every year with his advancing age - as is his OPS.
"w" for three straight wins and also for Jay...Worthless

Hey roch , another day another terrible performance by JAMIE WALKER. Please tell me there is sombody else out there in birdland that see's the same thing. Please tell me that there is somebody else out there that feels that he has more then enough chances to straighten himself out . Ok Roch that is now 11 inherited runners to score and they now are batting close to 400 against him. Please tell me when enough is enough and just release him. They told me yesterday that he is a really nice guy and that is why they won't release him. Please somebody help me understand how they can keep pitching this guy. And please don't tell me he has a track record and will be all right because that isn't going to happen.
