Another win for Tillman

My favorite headline of the day: “Girl Scout Sells 17,238 Boxes of Cookies”

And how she found Peter Schmuck’s house, we’ll never know.

The link that I provided for anyone who wanted to make a donation to the Nephcure Foundation, set up by former Orioles vice president Jim Duquette and his wife, recently was posted on Orioleshangout.com by one of its plus members.

Give him an A+.  At last check, the site had raised $3,265, and the total continues to grow.

Now THOSE are passionate fans. High-fives all around.

May all your home runs come with the bases loaded, just like Jay Payton's.

The Duquettes are holding a fundraiser May 31 in the Maryland/DC area aimed to fight a disease known as “Nephrotic Symdrome" that their 6-year-old daughter, Lindsey, still suffers from. Here’s the link again:  http://www.active.com/donate/stepforwardmddc/PDuquet1

In case you didn’t hear, Double-A Bowie pitcher Chris Tillman threw six scoreless innings today, allowing three hits and striking out nine to raise his record to 4-0.

I’m so glad that I didn’t jinx him with the feature that ran in Wednesday’s editions of The Sun.

Scouts and executives that I've talked to see Tillman as a middle-of-the-rotation starter with the potential to become a No. 2, for what that's worth.

If you’re a fan of the Sun blog “Connolly’s Corner Sports Bar,” you’ve read where the owner, who doubles as a bartender but refuses to clean the toilets, is eliciting votes for the best Orioles promotional giveaway item of all time.

Put me down for “Halter Top Day” at Memorial Stadium, and not because I ever received one.

Funny how "Tobacco Juice Day" never caught on.

Halter Top Day! My wife just passed hers down to our 20 year old daughter. It went from my favorite Orioles' promotional item to least favorite in the time it takes a woman to say, "Hey, would you like to have this?"

I prefer tube top day myself, especially when it's a little nipple out. Watching this Tides game makes you appreciate major league camera operators. I don't think they've tracked a ball past the pitcher yet. Jake's getting it done at Frederick again tonight. What a fun season. The O's are winning, the Yankees are in last place and there are finally lots of guys worth following in the minors.

Between Tillman and Arietta, it's hard not to be excited.

And who's this "Wieters" guy?

This is my first post on this site. I come to you a frustrated sports fan and details monger. I mention this subject to you because you seem like a guy who knows how to get things done. (Okay, sucking up part is over.)
Can you please get your friends in the media to stop calling any sporting event between teams from Baltimore and Washington D.C. the "Battle of the Beltway ?"
These two cities each have their own Beltway, there's no need to battle for supremacy of something that each city already has. The "Battle of the Parkway," now that's got the ring of accuracy to it.
Everytime I hear "Battle of the Beltway" I cringe. To which Beltway are they referring ? There are two of them. At the very least it should be a battle of Beltways, plural.
I'm putting my faith in you Roch. Get this thing done. We can make this change. Say it with me Roch, "Yes We Can" "Yes We Can"
Go O's, win the "Battle of the Parkway."

I feel for you Austin. Get your wife something nice to replace it!

I hope your daughter's not wearing it anytime soon, Austin. Better frame it before she dons it.

Roch, I was at that game with my wife, and most women changed into their halter tops. What a shame it rained halfway thru the game.

I was watching the Norfolk/Lehigh Valley game during commercials of the season finale of The Office and thought I saw Steve Kline. Is he there on a rehab assignment? He was a bust for the Orioles. I also saw the great catch by Willie Harris in the Nats game. I thought he would make a great addition to the Orioles, before they got Adam Jones and Luke Scott. I will be at the Orioles game tomorrow night.

S is for sweep.

anyone care to update the out-of-town girl on Brady's call-in to Anita? i've been out of work the last few days (everyone loves a root canal!) and am not there to take advantage of MASN over coverage of our local team...

curious to see what and how he spins what he will inevitably spin. that is, if he can form complete sentences. that in itself may have been more entertaining. he and erickson always seemed a little "vacant"... lovely people, i'm sure, and lots of fun at parties, no doubt... but "vacant" for certain.

Whatever happened to the poster who went by the moniker "Earl Weaver" and continually ranted against taking Chris Tillman in the deal with the Mariners?

What a mistake he kept saying. His opposition to having Tillman in the trade was expressed with such fervor that it came across as animus that could not be understood.

Maybe he was a Seattle fan who didn't want to lose Tillman?

And the spelling "McFail" has disappeared from the site, as well. That was a trendy thing, for some weird reason, for those who had become accustomed to bad times and didn't seem to understand the MacPhail family history with the Baltimore Orioles.

Kudos to Ken Francis for reminding all how to correctly spell Andy's family name.

Good things are happening.

With memories of Jim Dwyer stringing together key hit after key hit, "Go Orioles, Go."

Favorite Promotion:
It would have to be Louis XIII by Rémy Martin Orioles Cognac night. Every fan got a cut crystal Orioles souvenir shot glass filled with a full pour of Louis XIII. Now that was special.

Worst Promotion:
Probably the Cal Abrams Shrimp Salad Sculpture Day back in August of 1955. It was brutally hot that day and by the time the gates opened all of the Sculptures had sort of melted together. They ended up looking nothing at all like poor Cal.

Welcome coach23 , you answered your own question without knowing it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the battle is supposed to be plural , not singular,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,when it started many years ago , it was call 'the battle of the beltways",,,,,,,,,,,,,,now that is accurate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Go O's
