The lineup

Brian Roberts - 2B

Melvin Mora - 3B

Nick Markakis - RF

Kevin Millar - 1B

Aubrey Huff - DH

Luke Scott - LF

Ramon Hernandez - C

Adam Jones - CF

Luis Hernandez - SS

Matt Albers - P

Manager Dave Trembley said he checked the season stats for the first time during the flight home yesterday and thought about making some changes in the lineup, but he stuck with the usual suspects.

He decided that Jones needed to play after striking out four times yesterday "and not draw a lot of attention to it." He also noted how Jones is seeing more pitches than anyone else on the team, but he's struck out 10 times and walked only once because he's chasing some balls that he should be taking.

"I don't think he's that far off from getting straightened out," Trembley said.

Trembley also said it would be "tremendous" if the Orioles can get five innings out of Albers.

One last thing I'll say on the 1999 draft: while it doesn't look so good for us now, it's in the past. Nine years now. We can only hope that player evaluation and development (another question about those 7 picks--would a better development system have made more of them reach the majors? who knows?) has improved and keeps getting better.

What made you think of the Gino Giant, Roch? Was it discussing Roberts as a sandwich pick? The Giant WAS the best burger ever. And yes, I know that I'm a couple of posts behind, but I'm old so tough. Callahan's book was great--Gino Marchetti was always my favorite Colt and I think it was because of his drive-in. My parents gave me a Colt uniform for Xmas 1964 and they glued a big "89" on the front and the back that they had meticulously cut out from some white material. Good memories, Roch.

Please roch tell me how much longer he can continue to bat millar in the 4 hole. I know we don't have many other choices which continues to show the lack of talent in this organization. Scott moore should be getting those at bats. You know i admire dave trembley for saying all the right things all the time but is he being realistic. He has already said that ramon is close to getting out of his slump, now jones is close to getting out of his slump.Everybody that is not producing right now he say's they are close to breaking out. Get real. Millar shouldn't even be on this team , he should be in a circus making people laugh >WHAT A JOKE

I'm happy with the job Captain Kirk is doing, but it caught me as a bit strange that it would take him 12 games to check out the season stats.

Isn't he a baseball freak like the rest of us? Maybe check out some numbers over a morning cup of coffee?

About Adam Jones and the curve ball.....good news is that as he is having difficulty with them..he will therefore see a ton of them and by default you will know in short order what you got. Steep learning curve I guess.

Well, another Blue Jays series. Up here, we have to listen to this homer who thinks the sun shines out of Blue Jay %$#@. I hope the O's can shut him up. He makes me puke.

Hey Roch have you seen Jones take BP? Does he hit rockets out?

Gino's, home of the $ .12 fries and $ .15 burgers. don't short change Ameche's. Greatest place to watch cars and girls. Pick up a six pack at Artie's liquor store and still be there 30 minutes later laughing at his stories. Having dinner at the golden Arm as Johnny walked the tables and gracioously said hi to everyone. You really felt he loved it all. Don't hit on a woman in Pellington's place or he would throw you through the front door.

Other than Ray Lewis and his place do any of the current football players even know they play in Baltimore? Other than for the 8 Sundays.

Moore started at SS for the Tides yesterday. What should we read into this?

Also, why don't Tripp and Vinyard ever get any mention? Both had good seasons last year and both are still relatively young?

What gives with that Lucy?

Adam Jones is learning on the job and looks like a big winner, once he stops being suckered by curves and the low, outside sliders. The Crow has a lot to work with in this young guy, and it'll take eventually. I for one am glad the manager is hanging in there with AJ.

there used to be a gino's right in Olney .... oh man those were good burgers!!!

you got to dial up the wayyy back machine for that though .......... 1976 or so

Good for Dave Trembley in his support of Adam Jones. "Don't bring attention to it." That goes out to fans and media alike!

Wieters was named top offensive player of the week:

"Carolina League
Matt Wieters, Frederick
.478 (11-23), 8 R, 1 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 10 BB, 3 SO, 1 SB, .913 SLG
Six million dollar signing bonuses do not come without expectations, but Wieters has started his season even better than the Orioles could have expected. The fourth overall selection in last June's Draft, Wieters has a .618 on-base percentage after nine games with Frederick, collecting 11 hits and 10 walks. He started his season off in true style, hitting two home runs and scoring three times in the Keys 7-3 victory over Lynchburg. Wieters has reached base in every game this season, and his .680 on-base percentage against right-handed pitching is especially impressive."

Thats from Milb.com

1531 OPS ouch!

If you want to go back and talk about gino's . There wasn't a better place then PERRING PARKWAY GINO"s I guess i am showing my age but on friday nights 12 cent fries 15 cent burgers and a ton a girls just driving around and around . Then you would drive over to the shopping center to hopefully get lucky. There was nothing like it.

Tom in FL, did Jack in the Box used to be nationwide? Or are you missing it because you used to live in CA? Those 2 tacos for 99 cents will kill you buddy. All trans fat. The Orioles, however, could use some trans fat in the cleanup spot right now. Looking kind of thin.

Barry, Thanks for the reply and I've already handled the manner from my own typo internally. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Immelman wins Masters.

Besides the lapses in picking good players, it seems like the O's have had incredibly bad luck in drafts as well. Of all the years to have so many early draft picks, they got 1999. The only position players from the first two rounds that have amounted to real major leaguers are Roberts, Rios, Carl Crawford, Brandon Phillips, and Ben Broussard. There were some good pitchers, but not a lot of obvious sure-things. In other years, it's like the O's were always a spot or two away from getting an obvious stud choice, then have to make a tough decision on guys that have much less chance of panning out.

Jones might see a few more fastballs if he weren't hitting in front of Hernandez and Fahey.

He actually got some good swings when he hit leadoff. That's probably not his ideal spot, but he ought to be in around #5 or #6.

CRB. I saw a lot of Trammel and Whitaker so I guess I kind of lumped them together middle infielders who played well for a number of years. Personally, I think they should both be in the HOF because they really anchored the Tiger teams with their solid defense and consistent hitting. I'm guessing that the main reason they aren't in is that they didn't put up the power numbers, like Alomar did.
When he was motivated, there's no question Alomar was a great player but he also switched teams a lot, either for more bucks or to go to a winner. I'm not sure he's the best 2b ever-there are a lot of old timers like Hornsby, etc and I'd take Joe Morgan in his prime.
On pure numbers, however, I'm guessing that Alomar is going in on the first ballot but that unfortunate spitting incident will still be remembered by many media/voters.
I had mixed feelings about Alomar-he acted like a hot dog at times and seemed like a prima dona but the man could field, hit and run.

Gino's on Holabird Ave. was the best , just a qtr mile from Mcdonald's and a Mile from the Peninsula where we raced cars , then parked 'em , if you know what I mean...............
