The lineup
The Orioles put the tarp on the field. It should be raining soon.
Here's the lineup:
Brian Roberts - 2B
Melvin Mora - 3B
Nick Markakis - RF
Kevin Millar - 1B
Aubrey Huff - DH
Jay Payton - LF
Ramon Hernandez - C
Adam Jones - CF
Luis Hernandez - SS
Steve Trachsel - P
Rather than start on Sunday, Brian Burres has been pushed back to Tuesday in Texas. He's available to pitch in relief tonight and perhaps tomorrow.
Sam Perlozzo looks tanned and happy. He'll meet with reporters in the visiting dugout at 4:30 p.m.
Manager Dave Trembley still wants to pair Adam Loewen with backup catcher Guillermo Quiroz, so look for Quiroz to start tomorrow if tonight's game isn't rained out.

Comments
Payton should be glued to the bench as much as possible, not getting a start in the 3rd game of the year & I don't care if Randy Johnson in his prime is starting for Seattle.

Time to let Hayden go! He has a bad attitude and is a horrible pitcher. he sucks

If tonight is PPD are you thinking day/night double header tomorrow or Monday?

I think it's nice that the Orioles usually get to host Opening Day, but it makes no sense for a team Tampa Bay (with a dome no less) to play a season-opening series on the road.
MLB should have figured this out by now: Games in the first week of April should be reserved for domed stadiums or temperate climates. Tampa, Arizona, Los Angeles, Miami, Houston, Minnesota, Toronto, etc. should always host in the first week of the season. Boston, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Chicago, New York, etc. never should. Towns like Baltimore, Philly, Seattle and St. Louis probably fall somewhere in between.

Brian - You said that you are not telling anyone who to boo or not to boo. Yet on 4-1-08 you say "If you park regulars want someone to boo, try Bedard . . . . A man truly woth booing." You also strongly suggest in that same post that there would be something wrong with someone who would boo Huff.
As for Tejada, you have defended him and blasted MacPhail for trading him on numerous occasions. You have also been very quick to criticize what the Orioles received in return for him . . . . for instance "Scott looks like Gibbons minus the steroids".

If Randy Johnson in his prime is starting for Seattle I want Jeff Reboulet in the lineup.

Dylan,
Baltimore is regarded as a "southern" team by MLB, which is one reason we've been blessed with so many Opening Day dates. Another is probably no team in DC, which will definitely change the number of OD's Baltimore gets.
Hey Barry,
How about Chris Hoiles too?

I enjoyed the two videos of Brooks Robinson and this veteran Roch Kubatko.
I never new Brooks started his minor league career in York, PA. Does anyone know what number he was in York?
Boomer, I'll agree with you on Penn. Givin better conditions he could be a better pitcher. Baltimore isn't going to cooperate with Penn's achedule though.

I happen to like Brian's "Scott looks like Gibbons minus the steroids" comment. I'm not convinced that guy is a starter on a winning team. (Not something we have to worry about this season.)

If it rains tonight, I vote for a triple header on Saturday. Kinda like marathon baseball. Bring down the Rays from NY for a 10:05 am game, then have a 3:05 pm game with Mariners and then a 7:35 pm game. I don't think it has ever been done before and it would be huge for the city of Baltimore, the fans of Oriole baseball and MLB.
I was just thinking outside the box.

I agree with the poster who questioned Gary Thorne's abilities. He keeps calling Richie Sexson: "Sexton". Based on where his head seems to be most of the time, if he stuck it out his car window he'd get a ticket for mooning.

Alex Rios: 6 years, $64M. Andy MacPhail, Nick just got more expensive again. Just a reminder.

Listening to the Keys game on MLB.com, got good news and bad news.
Rowell came up lame in the first.
Wieters has walked and hit a HR.
heh Bob Milacki is the other teams pitching coach.

Another update, Arrieta has struck out 9 through 4 innings.

I'm told Rowell "tweaked" his ankle.

Wow. I'd never thought I'd be saying it, but I'm glad to have Trachsel back. I'll sure take 25 starts like that this year. He made one bad pitch and I don't think that ball has landed yet, but other than that, he looks like the Steve of last year... which is actually pretty good. And let's not forget that we have both Scott Moore and Rocky Cherry because we rented him out to the Cubs for one month. That deal is looking like a winner for MacPhail also.
And boy, does Sarfate throw fast or what? After sitting on Trachsel's moon balls in the last at bat, Beltre was totally unprepared for Sarfate's heaters. I like it!
