Going in the wrong direction

Being .500 isn't so bad.

That's where the Orioles are headed, trailing 5-3 in the eighth. But Luke Scott just doubled to score Kevin Millar.

There's still hope.

Gavin Floyd retired the first 12 batters he faced before Millar reached on an infield hit. Nick Markakis slugged a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the game, but neither run was earned because of first baseman Paul Konerko's error.

Konerko reached down for Luis Hernandez's ground ball. Next time, he might want to bend at the waist.

Jeremy Guthrie was cruising along until giving up back-to-back homers to Carlos Quentin and Joe Crede leading off the seventh. Guthrie had retired 13 of 15 batters before the inning.

Quentin hit his second homer in the eighth, this one off Dennis Sarfate.

I can't wait to hear the news from Jim Carter on Alex Cintron and tonight's Tides game. No one else tell me anything because Carter is the man on the scene.
The Hernandez and Fahey experiment should be about over. As much as I like and wanted them both to get the chance I think they should go down to AAA and work some there for now.

Oh My Golly Gee.... This game is getting nutty. I thought they were going to put Millar at SS. To see that would have been worth the loss. Too funny!

Go O's puhhhhleeeeaaaseee!

Have fun re-writing your game recap, Roch!

What a win! Huff at Third, Mora at SS, the Pitcher in the lineup. Jones having an awful night at the plate, but comes through when it counts!

.500 will have to wait... nice comeback, o's! i just wish there were more fans out there to enjoy it. this team has more heart than people realize and tonight, they showed it.

Oh come on Roch, you cant lose faith. Man what a comeback, we are playing great "winning team baseball" as Anita might remind us.

Blog too soon?

Wrong direction? Not so fast, Mr. Kubatko. A totally improbable win--it's Orioles Magic! (What else can you call it? Forget all that stuff about putting the song to rest, they simply need to give it a little updating and it will be as good as new!)

Tonight's exciting 6-5 comeback win over the White Sox can be attributed to a few outstanding at bats.

Mora battles Jenks and drives a tough, pitcher's pitch breaking ball through the middle to tie the game with the count 3-2 and 2 outs in the 9th and the Orioles down a run.

Millar works the count for a lead off walk off Boone Logan to start the bottom of the 10th.

And then Luke Scott, who just missed a HR to right center in his previous at bat, scraps back from 0-2 and almost getting nailed to foul balls off and get the walk.

After Huff's out to left, Adam Jones rips a shot into the left field corner to score Millar and the Birds celebrate a big win.

Another fine job by George Sherrill as he notches save number 7.

I'm with Adam; can't wait to play the Yankees. Go get em, Daniel Cabrera.

OOPS, sorry no save number 7 for Sherrill.

Better yet--he got the win.

What a game!

Roch, Stop selling us on failure. You tried to set us up with an Oriole loss although you did say "There's still hope." But dude, as a fan I don't want to give up, I don't want to stop listening to Joe Angel and Fred Manfra and I don't want to close Gameday because you say Trembley and company are headed to .500. I appreciate what you do, I look forward to reading your blog multiple times a day. Sorry you have to re-write your story, but this is a classic Oriole comeback that I look forward to reading.
z is for zip-it

Bring on the Spankees!
