Choosing McCrory

Manager Dave Trembley made an interesting call when he decided to let Bob McCrory start the seventh inning. A pitcher making his major league debut in a two-run game. Not an ideal way to break him in.

McCrory retired one of the five batters he faced, walking two and allowing two singles. He was charged with four runs.

Dennis Sarfate replaced McCrory with the bases loaded, also a gamble considering the right-hander's occasional lapses in control. Sarfate has surrendered a pair of two-run singles and walked two batters, and a 3-1 game has been transformed into an 8-1 mess.

Jim Johnson was warming with McCrory but didn't leave the bullpen.

Trembley has been pushing the right buttons this season, but he's open to a little second-guessing tonight. And I'm sure he's ready for it. He knows it comes with the territory.

I wish I pulled a Roch Kubatko and fell asleep when it was 5-1.

I kid.

I second guessed Trembley the second he put McCrory in. And then even more when he puts Sarfate in with the bases loaded. Both situations screamed for Johnson.

Whoever it is that says something negative about Eric Hinske please stop. On Opening Day, someone (TomP, March 31st @ 2:18 pm disrespected Eric and bam he hits a home run. Then yesterday at 9:19 pm someone (bill I) did to and bam he hits a home run.
Hinske has six home runs and out there somewhere are four other people who jinxed their teams. If you want to talk bad about someone, talk bad about Aubrey Huff, because he turns into "Huff Daddy," when we've booed him.
I have an idea, when talking about Hinske, be his biggest fan and he may hit weakly.

I told my Dad the ballgame would be out of reach after the inning ended after the first batter McCrory faced. We can't continue to make the mental, and physical mistakes we are making and be a .500 ballclub. We're just not that talented yet.

I'm reading draysbay blog and there some funny quotes I thought you all might like;
Vin @ 8:52, "When Jim Palmer says that your going to go a long way in this league, that's really something."
R.J. Anderson @ 9:07, "This is Birdland."
gatorbait @ 9:22 pm, "BTW, the Orioles announcer keeps calling him SAR- FARTY."
SaberToothedPie @ 9:42, "Pena just said a bad word."
websterjtc @ 10:06, "I really wish the o's would trade huff, why do they even have him?"
thebaddancingraysfan @ 10:06, "trade him to the NL"
Hope you got a laugh from that.

The positive take on last night's game is this: Albers is a better starter than Trachsel. Trachsel should be assigned to the bullpen to "eat innings" in mop up duty.

I can't believe that Trembley replaced one hard-throwing right hander (McCrory) with another hard-throwing right hander (Sarfate). The situation called for a soft-tosser, such as Bradford, Walker or Bierd. McCrory just warmed up the Rays for Sarfate.
