Where are the fundamentals?
The Orioles are getting sloppy again. Maybe they're just distracted with thoughts of flying out of here later today.
Luke Scott dropped a fly ball in left-center field to start the bottom of the second inning. Daniel Cabrera got the next two outs, walked Brady Clark and drilled Jose Reyes behind the right shoulder to load the bases.
Reyes went down hard, but he stayed in the game.
Kevin Millar walked to the mound to chat with Cabrera while the Mets' trainer checked on Reyes. He was probably reminding Cabera that he was leading off the bottom half of the inning and didn't necessarily want a fastball between his numbers.
Scott singled and moved to third on Adam Jones' double in the third inning. Second and third, no outs and Brandon Fahey coming up. Fahey sent a pop up to shallow center field, and Jones broke for third as if certain that the ball was going to drop. It didn't, and Jones was doubled off second.
Manager Dave Trembley hung his head as Jones returned to the dugout. Bench coach Dave Jauss gave Jones an encouraging pat on the back.
The game is tied, 1-1, in the third after Brian Roberts doubled with two outs to score Scott.

Jeff Conine is playing tonight for the Marlins vs Yankees for one exhibition game tonight at 7:10 pm. I hope I done with the yard work so I can watch it or listen to it on XM 179.

Players hardly miss flyballs in high school baseball. What is the deal?
Jones seems to have pretty bad instincts on the basepaths. Did he have a reputation prior to this year?
When are we allowed to get nervous that talking about fundamentals won't translate into actual performance on the field. That would be a real knock on the Trembley era.

Make that two errors on Scott. I guess Trembley put the wrong guys in the lineup again!

This is just the beginning, the fans here in this town better get use to a very very long summer. Dave trembley seems to be a very nice guy and right now he his saying all the right things about this team , but in reality this is a team that will lose over 100 games and be the laughing stock of the league. It is a cardinal sin what the orioles are doing to Brian Roberts, To having him dangling every day wondering when he is going to be traded is horrible For all the fundementals that the orioles have worked on down there on the back fields will be long forgotten by the time this team comes North.Talent is the only thing that wins ball games in this league and we by far of any other team in this league have very little. By the all star break we won't have 5000 fans going to camden yards and once again we are left wondering how a once proud franchise ever got to sad state that we are in .

Roch on the radio! O's have Fanfest tomorrow which they are previewing with Walk and Error Fest today. That's our number 2 starter and starting left fielder folks. We should have taken that package with Murton in it!

I got excited when I read that Jones got a double only to be put back in place by getting doubled off. his year us going to be one hell of a roller coaster ride!
Posted by: BIG Z | March 28, 2008 2:53 PM
And they want us to pay ten dollars at fan-fest to see these minor league players,,,,,,,,,,,,,good luck..........
If they get anything from fan-fest , maybe they will purchase a one way ticket out for HGH Gibbons..................
If this is what they call rebuilding , their meaning of the word and mine are quite different..............
Simply said , I'm disappointed..........

How much you want to bet Jones doesn't make that mistake again any time soon? Better now than next week. I agree that it is hard to remain focused when you know this is the last game down there. Shouldn't be an excuse but I'm pretty sure everyone will sharpen up mentally on opening day. I'm expecting guys like Hernandez, Jones, and a couple of the young pitchers to make mistakes early on. That's what young players do, and as unfortunate as it is at the time, there's no better way to learn the Major League game. I'm hoping everyone can cut them a bit of slack, at least through April... unless they are downright awful.

Isn't it strange. MLB decides not to suspend a player on my favorite team, and this disappoints me.
Never thought I'd be rooting for a suspension.

If this team doesn't lose 100+ games it will be a shock. Poor fundamentals, still too many overpaid veterans with no positions (Gibbons, Payton) and a horrid pitching staff.
Cherry on the DL with a bad shoulder? With his ERA the Orioles need more bad shoulders.
I'm guessing they will give Hernandez a month or so at SS and if his fielding problems continue he will be sent down. He doesn't have enough experience in playing the other infield positions to be a utility guy at this point.
I still think Fahey is a waste of a roster spot. Just no talent.

Oh joy. Rocky Dennis Gibbons is now eligible for the opening day roster. I say they get that plane heading back to Bmore up to 32,000 feet and throw him out over the Atlantic. The sharks that will devour him there will be a lot kinder than the sharks (me) that will devour him on Monday if he makes this team. That is unless Cher and Gar don't get to me first!

Roch, you better check on Huff, he might be curled up in a ball in the corner of the dugout at the thought of leaving S Fla for Bal'mer.... by the time you land here tonight, all the bars will naturally be closed, the streets empty, a lone wad of paper blowing down the sidewalk..... or have you told him about that little place just off the beltway in the northwest corner of town?

That wasn't Scott, it was Gibbons in Scott's uniform.
Encouraging pat on the back? That was boneheaded, he didn't have to go anywhere catch or no catch. He would have been better served to bluff going to 3rd on a tag up, thus drawing a throw to ensure Scott could lumber home. If it drops he is still on 3rd maybe, 2nd for sure & no one is out! Pat on the back.... Jauss should have given him a kick in the backside....

Why can't we Orioles fans ever get lucky? Too bad no condition has arisen that would require Gibbons to go on the DL (sorry Jay, I'm not really wishing for it, just want you off the team).
I think that is the plan with Gibbons. Keep him on the team, play him early and often and see what this year's injury du jour turns out to be for him. Then he'll be DL'd into oblivion. Problem solved. Hey, Angelose might even get lucky with a season ending or career ending injury that allows him to recoup most of the 12 milly. You are an evil man to be hoping for that, PA.

Hey, we won it in the 9th! Way to go.
Meanwhile, Gibbons' suspension is stayed for ten days (that makes it sound like he's being execueted or something). This is a disaster for the team. If we assume that Fahey makes the team as a backup for Hernandez, then it forces the decision:
keep Gibbons or cut Moore. I'm sorry to say it for Redman, but there's not spot for him here right now anyway. Payton is inhabiting Redman's potential spot, and Gibbon's is doing the same for Moore's spot.
Roch, what is the situation with Moore's minor league options?
At any rate, it's decision time for the front office. Time to see what MacPhail is like under pressure. The decision deadline is less than 48 hours away.
h is for I Hope MacPhail makes the right call.

Oh noooo! Suspension put on hold? CUT THE BUM! You promised Tike, Dave! Moore can get full time ABs in AAA for a little while, but you promised Tike!

Alex Cintron released by the Cubs today. Maybe the reason Trembley was non-commital regrading the opening day starter at short?
Posted by: Jan | March 28, 2008 4:29 PM
i guess they can count Bierd as one of the guys that wants to be in Baltimore...
Posted by: jim66 | March 28, 2008 4:29 PM
Can someone explain to me how this is rebuilding? Millar, Mora, Payton, Gibbons, Huff and Hernandez are all going to be on our Opening Day Roster and will see plenty of playing time. I don't get it. Moore and Scott should be playing everyday, the fact that we have guys over 35 taking at bats away from these guys is absurd. If we are going to lose, I'd rather lose with a team that has birthdays after 1980.

Nice to see... for once... a comeback victory for the Orioles today. It's a great way to cap everyone's stay in Florida. And it looks like Luis Hernandez and Eider Torres delivered the final two hits... beautiful!
I wonder if it's adios Ft. Lauderdale and hello Vero Beach next year? Sounds like Ft. Lauderdale officials are doing everything possible to keep the Orioles around and that there is a good chance they will be staying. The Orioles are actually in a good position here because maybe they can play the two sites against each other and choose the best deal.

OK Guys, one thing for sure, you do have a one track mind. First of all, You have to have veterans in the mix with young players, because you have to learn the ropes.Cal Ripken always said that Eddie Murray help him as he learned the game. Rebuilding doesn't mean you only play rookies. We may have too many vets, but some have to be here.
Some of these vets are making too much money to release so they have to stay, nothing you can do about that, and hard to trade, because they are not needed somewhere else and you can't make trades if there is no need for them. We have 3 DH's on this team,(Gibbons, Huff, Millar) everyone else has at least one or two, so there is no need for ours. Mora has no trade value and a no trade clause, he has to stay. Payton makes too much, so its either trade him for nothing, or keep him, but as I said, we need some veteran presents even with a rebuilding team. You never see a team with all rookies.

Just let the O's play in triple AAA for a year or two until they get things worked out.................
