Pre-game notes
Kevin Millar took batting practice earlier and swung without any restrictions. He'll play tomorrow and Wednesday, and manager Dave Trembley hopes to get nine innings out of him on both days.
Trembley still won't reveal the rest of his rotation, other than to say he probably won't need a fifth starter the first time around because of the open date on April. 1. But the way he currently has the rotation lined up, it's Jeremy Guthrie, Steve Trachsel, Daniel Cabrera and Adam Loewen.
Loewen starts today and again on Saturday in Washington D.C., for those of you who plan on attending the final exhibition game.
We still need to know the identity of the fifth starter, the starting shortstop and the extra bench player.

Comments
If Angelos can dump $12 million to try and help Hilary get a re-vote in Michigan than this joker can certainly waste another $11 million and cut Jay "I use steroids but still stink" Gibbons.

Not exactly Palmer, McNally, Phoebus and Quellar, eh? And our cleanup hitter is a flake who wouldn't likely even make the cut of half the teams out there? Sad. I really hope the Orioles can make the Brian Roberts deal and answer some of those questions you've noted, like shortstop, bench player, 5th pitcher. We need alot more pitching, not merely for today, but so we have something to trade to bring in a decent hitter. I remember a team or two when it was "Cal Ripken and the 8 dwarves," but at least we had Cal Ripken. Anyway, enough of the negative waves, I'll stop. GO ORIOLES!!!

"I could play a week's worth of games and be ready to roll when I come back," said Gibbons, who's batting .172 with no home runs this spring. "
How could this NOT be the funniest line of spring training?
Jay must be one of those 'my career is still half-full guys...;

I say Trembly goes with a four man rotation until he needs a fifth starter. I think he knew who his fifth starter was going to be a while ago when he sent Penn down to get more innings. Penn will be called back to Bmore as the fifth starter!

If Loewen is fourth in the rotation, Albers is your fifth starter. Has not Trembley previously stated that he didn't want lefties back to back in the rotation?
Does concern me the lack of attention that Trembley has given to aligning the rotation. In past years, aligning the rotation was something openly discussed with several weeks remaining in spring training. There has been little effort to stretch this rotation out in spring training. Everyone knows that a key responsibility of the manager is handling the pitching staff.
Trembley seems to stand for and say most of the right things, but getting his starting pitchers ready for the season has certainly not been a priority.

Just wondering how many of you are going to Opening Day next monday????
I certainly hope most of you are going. You all said that you were behind this rebuilding process (trading Tejada and Bedard were pretty big moves for the O's), so I pray that you all stand by your word and cheer on the few young players we have.
Let the countdown begin.... It's spring, it's baseball season, and I get to see my good friend... Mr. Clancy Budweiser Beer Vendor. God I've missed him.
Monday is going to be a GOOD DAY!

Would anyone willingly take a loss Opening Day? I think the O's should lose on purpose... look at how many times the O's have won opening day games and then had a TERRIBLE sub 500 season.... I'll give you a hint they have won 7 of their last 8 opening days and had a losing record that year

The good news is Millar's finger is ok the bad news is he's still on the team and batting clean up.

Peter the Great will not get any of my money this year either , by the way there are plenty of opening day tickets available , even six or eight together.................can't remember when that happened last time in Baltimore , oh I mean Camden Yards so Peter the Great will know which team I am talking about...........
