Leading 2-0
The air must be heavy because Carlos Pena and Kevin Millar crushed the ball and it didn't leave the park.
I thought Millar had a three-run homer in the first, but he settled for a two-run double when left fielder Carl Crawford leaped at the warning track and had the ball bounce off his glove. Brian Roberts and Nick Markakis both scored on the play.
Millar did his Ray Lewis dance during the introductions.
Aubrey Huff was booed during the intros and again when he came to the plate and flied out. It got louder as he returned to the dugout.
You know the Rays are loving it.

Think Millar's double should have been an error?

I can live with a bad rotation and a worn out bullpen. An anemic lineup doesn't bug me.
Can they please catch the ball?
The team is going to have enough problems without giving the other team extra outs.

The first time Huff gets a key hit, all will be forgotten and the fans will cheer him like crazy.
I would be surprised if Roberts got booed-did they boo him? If not, then there's a double standard...Huff can make a few off-colour remarks yet Roberts admits to using and gets a pass and warm and fuzzy cheers.
Personally, I'm ready to start fresh-if that's possible for a battle-scarred O's fan for over 40 years-and not boo anyone (for a few weeks anyway!).

i for one cannot wait until mr mora is wearing someone else's uniform.
it's only a matter of time before he's whining. I hope he hits some so its easy for the o's to unload him.

As a Baltimore city resident, I hope Huff gets booed all season and then gets run out of town - no matter how well he plays. If someone disses the city where they play, how can they expect fan support?

jim66 -- MORA will be whining? You mean like you? LOL
Jim, this is still only Opening Day, and not only are you're carping about how bad things are, but actually sound like you're hoping bad things keep happening to this team? What's that all about?
Mora had a tremendous spring and hit the ball pretty hard today in a couple of his at bats today, yet you want to see him in another team's uniform? I'd much rather see him continue his torrid hitting and help the Orioles win some games. Isn't that what we all want, some home team victories?
If you want to jump off of a sinking ship, fine, I understand that. But can't you wait until it get out of the harbor first? LOL

sorry Ken, i've been hoping mora would be wearing some other team's uniform for the last 3 years. You must have missed my previous whining posts on the subject.... I think he's an ok player who's skills are in decline.
But I guess I'm in the minority on that one. He's probably one hell of a guy and a great teammate. Wonderful stuff.
Anyway, you should have finished reading my post- I hope mora hits so it will be easier to trade him.
Not whining about the state of the O's. I'm on board with the whole rebuilding thing. I loved the Tejada and Bedard trades. I like the young arms in the bullpen and now at the minor league level, even with Patton's surgery. Hey, l can tolerate a few more years of losing, now that it seems the ship is at least pointed in the right direction. It's just that a few more of the crew need to be reassigned. And i see the need to have a few vets on the team. The O's are devoid of any real immediate help for position players in the minors. Hopefully in the next few years a few of those kids are ready to come up and are ready to compete.
Go Os! There.

jim66 -- Okay, I see your point. Obviously, Melvin isn't in the too longterm future of the team, but as long as he's with the team, let's seem him earn the handsome salary he was given.
True, his skills may be in decline a bit, but he came to camp on a mission. He strikes me as someone who actually cares about giving back to the team by putting a good performance on the field and I think he's going to have a comeback year in 2008. It's about honesty, and I think that's what he's about.
And I HOPE he does, because this team needs offense anywhere it can find it. If the top of this lineup gets in a groove, it can put some decent run totals on the board and the team won't be a total doormat. I'd at least like to see Mora as an Orioles through the All Star break, and if he's having a big year he could bring some nice prospects in return for a team in the playoff hunt.

i like to add something about Mora , he is our only player left from that ill-fated 2000 O's Purge . At that time , Mora was just journeyman utility player in Mets system . When he began his O's term , he became leadership for young players , Mora also even changed positions for 'better of team' . Yes , Mora is emotional player , like he shown with that umpire yesterday , but that tells me he cares about competing .
If Mora gets hot in this first half and get traded by july , O's should honor and thank him .
