Another cut and lineup

Jon Leicester was scheduled to start today's game against the Marlins. Instead, he's been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk, leaving Brian Burres as the starter.

Funny how quickly things change around here.

Because he's out of minor league options, Leicester has 72 hours to accept the assignment or become a free agent.

The Orioles are keeping us on our toes. Manager Dave Trembley included Lance Cormier among the pitchers who have proven that they can go multiple innings if needed. A few hours later, a team spokesman informed us that Cormier had been reassigned to the minor league camp.

Leicester was listed as the starter on today's lineup card. Now he's gone, and I haven't even digested my morning protein bar.

The move leaves the Orioles with 39 players on the 40-man roster. And they'll create more space when they put Chris Ray, Danys Baez, Troy Patton and Fernando Cabrera on the 60-day disabled list.

I saw Baez briefly in the parking lot this morning. He said he's started to throw and his right arm feels good.

Here's the lineup:

Brian Roberts - 2B

Melvin Mora - DH

Kevin Millar - 1B

Aubrey Huff - 3B

Jay Payton - RF

Ramon Hernandez - C

Luke Scott - LF

Adam Jones - CF

Brandon Fahey - SS

Brian Burres - P

Leicester had a number of chances to make an impression and he couldn't do it. His spot on the 40-man was tenuous at best, and to be honest, I'm surprised he stuck around this long. I'd say his smartest career move would be to report to Norfolk and stay in the cue for another Major League shot. He think he'll get it here before most other organizations.

I'm sure Hayden Penn's fans will be watching Burres closely today. Then again, Penn should be focused on doing his job in Triple-A and earning that recall asap.

Guess BR's gone for multiple additions to 40-man.

Since the Cubs deal seems to be dead fortunately (lousy return from the Cubs if the papers are accurate), they should have loads of space on the 40 man roster to add players since they also figure to cut Hernandez and Gibbons and trade Payton for a warm box of baseballs (or Marquis). But, they will fill those spots with leftovers from other clubs (Lopez, Loretta, Barmes, etal), so the upside seems minimal while they play musical chairs with the prospects all year. Going to be a loooong season from a W/L prospective but, hopefully, some of the prospects will blossom and make it fun from that aspect.

u as in ugly

My apologies for the mistake in the orginal lineup. I've gotten so used to typing 3B next to Mora's name. Old habits die hard. Anyway, thanks to those of you who pointed it out, and for not ripping me to shreds.

Yeah, but who died first- the chicken guy or the egg guy?
