Updating Ray

Chris Ray won't start his throwing program until tomorrow. He said there was so much going on today that the club decided to wait.

Aubrey Huff was working up a sweat on a stair climber when I ducked inside the clubhouse a few minutes ago. I almost didn't recognize him with the bleached blonde hair.

The pitchers took part in fielding drills this morning, and the catchers are preparing to take batting practice on the main field.

The stands aren't exactly filled here. I counted 20 people earlier. But in fairness, there isn't much going on, especially when the players are hidden on the back fields.

The five double-sized lockers, a perk for any player, have been assigned to Melvin Mora, Brian Roberts, Kevin Millar, Huff and Jay Gibbons. Nick Markakis just missed out. He's sixth in line, where the smaller sizes begin.

I guess it's age over MVO.

One more reason to trade Huff/Millar

That's Bull S**t! I know we have bigger things to worry about but if anything Markakis should get TWO lockers to himself since he was pretty much our ENTIRE TEAM last year. Then I would say Roberts and Guthrie!

Jay Gibbons and Aubrey Huff should have to share a broom closet!

gibbons gettin a big locker?

Well , egos & ...supplements... take alot of locker space.

Gibbons gets perks?

They should give him Gibbons locker. Really, all Gibbons needs is a shelf in the training rooom with his own athletic tape and ice packs- He spends most of his time there anyway!

If its based on age, wouldn't Traschel have five lockers? Way to send a message to Gibbons and Huff.

Gibbons should have been the first one there. Not only is he the worst player on the team, but he's suspended for the first 15 games. It's going to take a lot of extra cuts to be able to maintain his stellar .230 average after such a long layoff.

Aubrey Huff's locker should be in the bathroom.

Maybe you only get one of the larger lockers if you were part of some off season controversey. Unfortunately for Nick, his name did not come up in the Mitchell Report, he did not spout off on satelite radio and he did not participate in another team's pep rally.

Gibbons gets an oversized locker just because the roids made his head to big to fit in a normal locker.

Or salary over MVO.

Um, please explain how/why "K" Gibbons is being offered any kind of "perk"?!?!

Jay Gibbons locker should be in the parking lot...is this how you reward a guy that was on the juice? I mean it is only a locker, but still.

Roch, why don't you run a contest for your readers that awards a prize to the person who guesses which Oriole player will be the first to strain his oblique muscle, which pitcher will be the first to require Tommy John surgery and on what date this year Jay Gibbons will be make his initial trip to the 60 day disabled list.

They should have assigned Jay Gibbons a double-sized trashcan.

Gibbons?!?!?!?! WHYYYYYYYYYY

How can you give Gibbons any perks? Dude is supsended 15 days to start and has one of, if not the worst contract in all of MLB.

His perk is that Angelos isn't trying to void that awful contract after his suspension.

Give that locker to Markakis. And why on earth does Huff get one? Give that one to Guthrie.

You all crack me up. Thanks for instigating Roch, that's good stuff!

Huff needs a bigger locker for the hand lotion & Millar needs an extra one for his RedSox uniform.

Wow!
I feel a lotta love here for Gibby.

Roch, does Trembley have a soft spot for Rocky Dennis Gibbons or something? I thought Trembley was a stickler for old school baseball, which includes playing by the rules?

The solution to the locker situation is easy. Trembley should reduce the "big" locker privledge to 4 vets and give the other one to the previous years team MVP. There. Problem solved.

I love Roberts, but who else thinks it's funny that team perks were handed out to:

a. Millar, a 2nd year (or is it his 3rd year already) player who embarrassed the city by throwing out the first pitch for his old team in a Sox uni

b. Gibbons, a Sloth look alike, who not only admitted cheating and is suspended for it, but absolutely stinks now

c. Huff, a 2nd-year player who called the city a horse dung town among various other inappropriate public statements

d. Mora, I like the guy, would you really consider him a team player after all of the whining he's done.

e. Roberts, I love the guy, he's one of my favorites, but he admitted cheating too.

So essentially the O's are rewarded guys who promote opposing teams, cheat, whine, or blast the town you play in? This can't send a good, positive message during rebuilding year 1.

Oh, and Rock, please give us a report on Gibbons' appearance this year. Does he weigh a buck ten now? Was he zapped by the honey I shrunk the kids gun again?

I also find it interesting Gibbons gets slammed for roids, but not Roberts?
No Hypocrisy here huh?

Here I was ready to unload both barrels over Gibbons getting one of the "special" lockers...but I see that everyone else has taken care of that. LOL

Maybe they're just trying to give him a perk or two before they finally bite the bullet, eat some salary and DFA him to open up more flexibility on the 25 man.

Gibbons needs a big locker to store all of his gloves -- because that's where they should stay. He should never even see the field again.

Is it true there is a sign over Huff's locker that says...

10 PM Last call or is it

Mary Palm & her 5 sisters...

Oh & Patton, the supposed centerpiece of the Tejada deal..... sore shoulder last year huh? Labrum concerns huh? Can anyone say Kurt Ainsworth?

POPSinPa - sorry but there is no comparing Gibbons and Roberts.

One made a career via steroids and one merely sampled them.

One can be traded for 3 top prospects, the other couldn't be traded if the Orioles threw in 3 top prospects

Gibbons gets more heat than Roberts because he's half the size he used to be and Roberts is actually good. So the knocks are really more about play on the field than steroids. Some people never needed them and some used them to make it and got big fat contracts only to now suck and be a team cancer. A plague! A pandemic! The horror.

Gibbons' locker should be outside of a 4th or 5th story window of the warehouse. What these locker arrangements show, unfortunately, is that the team will stay play favorites with all of its veterans, including the deadbeat ones. Geez, the way things are set up I'm surprised Jay Payton didn't get one of the big lockers. And you know Payton's whining that he didn't. Just get rid of him already. WTF! Does management not have eyes?

Roch

Might you be transportationally challenged? The story here in Baltimore is that your flight was delayed because the pilot gave you the keys to the plane, but somehow you locked them inside the cockpit and AAA doesn't do planes. Well they used to do airplanes but Homeland Security doesn't allow it anymore.

Maybe the next time the Yanks or Sox are in town we can sneak you in as their bus driver. When they don't show up in time for the National Anthem, the O's will by forfeit. Sounds like a plane to me, at least as good as anything the front office has tried in the last ten years.

With any luck one of those guys will get dealt during spring training and Markakis will get the big locker after all.

Jay Gibbons is still on the team?

Everyone mentioned needs a double locker because they all bring a lot of "extra baggage" with them.

Who is the union rep for the players? I know it used to be Gibbons but I can't imagine he still is.

Jay Gibbons is still an Oriole?

Yeh obviously Gibbons does not "deserve" a big locker, but keep in mind folks...The man has quite a few things to hide.

Aubrey Huff's locker should be at his house, where his fat butt should be after the O's cut him.

And do they have Jay Gibbon's personalized hot/cold tub ready in the trainer's room yet? Haven't the O's been on the field for more than 20 minutes?

How in the world could Huff, in good conscience, accept a double locker instead of Markakis is the height of egotism. Name one thing Huff has done to deserve it, except hit for the cycle in the middle of a 90 loss season once.

The O's can't DFA him fast enough for my liking.

Guys, we talking about LOCKERS. Hello? Chill.

Tracy; hypocracy is being a spokesman against something while doing the same act undercover. Denying using for years yet doing it. And worse, awarded a long- term contract based on stats that were possibly elevated by cheating. Maybe we could've gotten a better player that wouldn't be on the DL all the time.

Chutes & ladders, a suspension sends a guy down, not up.

On thing about Roberts; there was not one person, whether the media, ESPN, the truly guilty, even Schilling (I know) who believed Brian's name should have come up at all.

I'm looking forward to this season, the kids will inject a lot of enthusiasm. I think a few veterans are needed, as long as they don't put a damper on things and start the "why bother" attitude. But I'm sure Dave will sit any guy who doesn't cut it.

And remember everyone, anything better than last place beats the odds!

I think this situation is VERY old school. There is a pecking order to seniority and earning perks as opposed to fans perceptions. I bet the players done hold anything against Roberts or Gibbons for their exploratory playing doctor. It all makes for good fodder for fans and silly folks like Anita wanting to talk about "face of the franchise" but in the locker room and coach's offices, this is old school. Earning your status, not by being the best but by seniority and showing up and working hard. For instance, Markakis couldnt take FRobby's place in the kangaroo court but Gibbons, despite his medical escapades probably could. I think this is right in line with Trembley being totally old school and trying to make something cohesive out of the locker room.

Well.... I guess the players with the most baggage get the biggest lockers...

As for Gibbons, the extra locker is so he can fit his contract inside.............. and all the lawyers it will take to keep the money from said contract after he is DFA'd

Gibbons is still on the team?

To me seniority only means something if you do your job while building seniority.

I don't give a crap about lockers but if this is the fresh start the Team has been talking about this seems like a strange way to start. Perks are for performance, not occupying space.

I do not know, but my guess is that Coach Trembley or the Orioles did not do the assigning but rather the players themselves did the assigning of lockers.

Looking to turn the page with mostly young guys and a new history; take out the double lockers and have all single lockers.

Coach Trembley, looking to create team unity? Look across the parking lot at the other Baltimore team. Coach Harbaugh trashed the old locker room seating chart and mixed offense, defense and special teams. How about rookie, rookie veteran, rookie, rookie, veteran, ...?

Look across the parking lot for unity? Is that a joke? You have Ray Lewis trashing his coach and organization at every turn, You have McGahee trashing Buffalo on his way out similar to how Huff did Baltimore this offseason. The Ravens are totally dysfunctional with inmates running the asylum. Just ask your ex offensive coordinator who called his short time in the town as his biggest mistake of his career. PLEASE dont use the blackbirds as a model of team unity.
