Still waiting...

I would love to file an entry confirming the Erik Bedard trade to Seattle and releasing the names of the prospects that Orioles president Andy MacPhail acquired in return for the left-hander.

Just one problem: Nobody on the Orioles' side is confirming that a deal is done.

All we have so far is Adam Jones telling reporters in Venezuela that the Mariners told him that a trade was completed and he should fly to Baltimore. Pretty strong stuff. But the media here needs someone from the warehouse to provide confirmation, and it's not happening.

Jones and pitchers George Sherrill and Chris Tillman are rumored to be involved in the deal, but Sherrill told the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker that he hasn't heard a word about being traded.  You'd think that he'd know, if Jones already has been given the news.

More to come, I'm sure.

I get the feeling AM doesn't like the press.

Unless Sherrill isn't in the deal...

Score a big one for MacPhail!

confirmation, thru lack of denial!!!!

Thanks, Roch

Isn't their response confirmation Roch??? Every other time you ask about a reported trade they immediately deny it. The fact that they're not talking should tell you the deal is done. And why would Jones lie about the GM telling him he's an O?

Jones' manager in Venezuela, Luis Sojo, confirms that Jones is headed to Baltimore for a physical. I'm guessing Mobtown Matt is right - the deal's done, and Sherrill isn't included. Looks like Bavasi blinked.

If Bedard gets done how long will Roberts be an Oriole?

Any chance of Mora or Payton being dealt anywhere?

Roch, this would be huge! We not only get rid of someone who doesn't want to be here, but we pull a Glenn Davis-sized loot in return!!! Kudo's to Mr. McPhail!!!!

Why aren't we getting some talent for Bedard. Adam Jones? What's the skinny on him? What am I getting excited about with this trade?

There is still time for Angelos to void everything...dont hold your breath folks

This has that sweet smell of Schilling & Brady for Boddicker all over again! Finally, some definitive direction & decision making with the Birds! This is great!!!

Rumors around the net are that its Jones, Clement, Tilman and a 4th, possibly Triunfel. This wpuld be a HUGE haul. Its also reported that the Cubbies may be interested in either Huff or Gibbons in addition to Roberts. Looks like we may be on our way.

I was thinking that this has that Boog Powell for Dave Duncan feeling.

Tim,
I do not know much about Jones but Google search came up with him being the M's #1 minor leaguer.

Jones is the M's top prospect. Very athletic CFer, 30+ HR potential but impatient still at the plate. He's often compared to Torii Hunter, as a hitter and athlete.

Clement was the M's #1 pick a couple seasons ago. Is labeled a catcher, but probably projects to be DH or 1B. Impressed during his call-up last September. Good power and patience.

Triunfel might have more upside than anyone else in the M's farm system. Only 17 years old, but impressed at the M's high-A affiliate.

These are widely considered the M's three best prospects.

I'd bet that one will become All-Star caliber, and another will be at least a decent regular for several years. If lucky, two can become above-average starters for many years.

Adam Jones was a SS prospect that has recently turned to the OF. Projects to possibly be a Torii Hunter-esque player in all areas, gold glove potential defense with a huge arm. 20+HR power and a .270-.280 average with a good deal of strike outs and 20-30SB. Has all five tools.

Clement is a catcher and his bat is impressive at that position, but his defense is sorely lacking and is prompting a move to 1b/DB which hurts his value. He isn't projected to have the power a regular 1b should have.

Triunfel is a solid young player who might need to move to 3b or the OF as he grows. Has tons of power potential and is pretty raw. That is to be expected of a 17 year old who out played a lot of 20 somethings in A ball.

Tillman is a highly touted pitching prospect of only 18-19 years of age.

If we got Jones, Triunfel, and Tillman, that would be enough for me. If there is a 4th player like Clement or Sherrill involved, even better.

F = I hope this trade is not another fantasy like the Roberts trade news.

I agree with Eduardo. Jones and Tillman were their minor league player and pitcher of the year last year. Triunfel was listed as Baseball America's No. 1 hot prospect last August (see link-- http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/hotsheet/264617.html). Those three would be enough. Everything I have read says Clement is not in the deal, and it's hard to imagine you get 4 top prospects for Bedard anyway. Sherrill had a breakout season as a set-up man last year, but is 30. Better option than Danny Baez to be sure, so he would be a nice addition to the deal if they can get him.
