Erik Bedard

So the Redskins have their offensive and defensive coordinators in place, but they still haven’t hired a head coach.

Isn’t it usually done in reverse?

If Erik Bedard is still listed on the Orioles’ 40-man roster beyond next week, I’ll be very surprised. My crystal ball keeps showing Adam Jones, George Sherrill and Chris Tillman reporting to Fort Lauderdale Stadium. They have another guy with them, but his image is fuzzy.

Then again, that same crystal ball keeps showing Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson smiling and waving from the back of a convertible during a victory parade through the streets of Dallas. And Bill Belichick winning Last Comic Standing. And Peter Schmuck being the anchor on The Sun’s 400 meter relay team.

It also showed Sidney Ponson signing a minor league deal with the Phillies, but now I’m told that won’t happen. No idea where he’s headed.

I really need to get a new crystal ball. Right after I invest in a Wii.

Moving on to the story on Erik Bedard that ran in today’s editions of The Sun, it’s important to note that the left-hander wasn’t angry or agitated during his interview with beat writer Jeff Zrebiec. A more accurate description would be matter-of-fact, and at times playful. He wasn’t fuming or bitter.

Also, it’s obvious that we’re dealing in semantics when it comes to the Orioles’ attempts to sign Bedard to a long-term contract. Bedard indicated that the Orioles haven’t made him an offer. Team president Andy MacPhail said he wanted to discuss a long-term deal with Bedard’s agent, Mark Pieper, who countered that Bedard preferred a one-year deal.

Pieper confirmed in the article that the two sides talked “conceptually” about a three-year contract. That's not an actual offer, but one was in the works. However, since Bedard is signed through 2009, my math tells me that we’re only talking about a one-year extension. No chance.

Bedard doesn’t want to go through a rebuilding process. The Orioles are going through a rebuilding process. He’s as good as gone.

So says this crystal ball. But it also says that the Orioles signed an option agreement to move their spring training site to Rehoboth Beach.

Where's my Magic 8 Ball?

I think AM knows what he is doing. Folks keep insisting to sign Corey Patterson or some has-been closer. Why occupy another spot on the 40 man roster when if we can can a 4 or 5 for one deal, with the potential of 2 of the 5 added to the 40 man? This way we can really call this rebuilding instead of piece-mealing. Here's to 2010 when we may get exceited again.

Give AM a chance. We want change and we want it yesterday. My crystal ball sees R. Hernandez , Millar, Huff and Payton gone by July. I think we are stuck with Gibbons or a flat out waiver. Does PA want to eat that contract? For that kind of money, I would keep him around even if he can only shine shoes.

Could they offer Bedard 3 years $36 million and buy out these last 2 years of his contract? Is there any possibility he would take that? He would only be stuck here for one extra year yet he would get $12 million this year and next, a huge raise. And the best part is that we could still trade him pretty easily.

Roch:

If Bedard wasn't agitated during the interview, why was the headline on Zrebiec's story: "Agitated Bedard feeling unwanted"? Seems like the headline writer took an unnecessary liberty to try to make an already interesting story even more appealing.

The Orioles new slogan... A Commitment to Litigation

Just in. Heath Ledger has died. He was on the long list to throw out the opening day first pitch. Now I'll just have to watch watch it on TV.

Sounds like the Bedard to the M's rumors are picking up more steam. On the Seattle Times blog someone's mentioning knowledge of plane tix being purchased for 3 M's players who're heading to balmer.

Roch- If Bedard was not agitated during the interview, then why was the title of the story "Agitated Bedard Feeling Unwanted"? I would have preferred "Playful Bedard Feeling Unwanted" or even "Bedard Not Tipping Hand, But We Suspect He Feels Unwanted."

In Baltimore, God lies in the details.

Pull the trigger on Bedard,Roberts and our way over the hill veterans. Rebuild...pleasssee.

Roch,

Word out of Seattle is that Adam Jones is heading to Baltimore. Any info?

Check out this link, Roch... do some digging! I've heard the O's got a four-for-one deal... who be the other three?

"f" is for finally!

Come on, Roch.

We know the deal is done. Who are the other parts, besides Jones?

thank you very much in advance.

Here Bedard is worried about making 10 million to pitch baseball and I am just worried about keeping my 21.00 an hour job. Just doesn't seem quite right, if I was him I'd take a cool million just to pitch in the majors and be happy for whoever it was.

Hey Roch, any info about the Bedard deal to Seattle? The Seattle Times is reporting that Adam Jones is flying into town for a phsical tomorrow.

Bedard/Jones trade apparently going down according to Jones & Seattle Times.

Just read the Seattle Times blog and it looks like Adam Jones is on a plane to Baltimore tomorrow morning. Let's hope these deals bring the talent to get this team major league ready by 2010.

Bedard-Jones deal going down as reported on Seattle newspaper--Jones is flying to Baltimore for a physical

Roch, talk to me the hangout is running rampant with the Jones flying to Baltimore news, how bout you confirm it to me.

Roch,

Seattle Times' Geoff Baker is reporting Adam Jones will be in town on Monday for a physical. Can you confirm and what other players are involved in the trade?

Adam Jones is flying from Venezuela to Baltimore for a physical (reported be Seattle forum). Who else will be an O?

good to hear the sun is scooped again...

bedard has been traded to seattle.

Just out of curiosity, what has The Sun gotten scooped on? All the false rumors that we've shot down repeatedly? You mean those? Nothing has been confirmed on Baltimore's end. We can't run anything as being official until, you know, it's official.

I know I don't know the trade specifics, or even if its 100% official, but if we did just trade Erik Bedard I can say something I couldn't say all season . . . The O's have the potential to actually surprise people this season.

Better defense across the board. A better bullpen almost entirely across the board. Depth in the rotation that allows us to shift some guys to the bullpen.

With some bounceback years from our veterans, and solid years from Scott, Jones, Markakis. We might acually have a team this year that doesnt lose 100 games.

I'm pumped.
