Oh Henry!

I can’t believe this guy.

Wouldn’t you think that Bengals receiver Chris Henry would be doing everything within his power to stay out of trouble, now that his eight-game suspension is over? Wouldn’t you think he’d be listed in the program as Choir Boy? Wouldn’t you think he’d avoid controversy at any cost, even if it means being a shut-in?

Not Henry. Reports have surfaced that he allegedly was involved in an altercation with a parking attendant on Tuesday, the night before he was allowed to rejoin the Bengals. No charges have been filed, but does it really matter? It’s more bad behavior from a really bad guy.

According to an Associated Press story, Henry refused to pay the attendant after parking his SUV in an “entertainment district” in Newport, Ky.

Yeah, this guy needs to be hanging out in an entertainment district. Good call. I’m sure he assumed there was a Chuck E. Cheese's nearby. Darn the luck.

I’m not sure which part of the story I enjoy more – that he reportedly crumpled up a $5 bill and tossed it on the ground, or that he did so after yelling, “Don’t you know who I am?”

I’d be like, “Yes, of course. You’re that loser from the Bengals who keeps getting arrested and suspended and embarrassing your employers and the league.”

To which Henry would reply, “Um, could you be more specific?”

The Bengals aren’t commenting because charges haven’t been filed. So for now, Henry will be in uniform Sunday against the Ravens. And if he scores a touchdown, maybe he’ll celebrate by pulling a $5 bill out of his sock and throwing it at the defensive back’s feet.

We all know who you are, Chris Henry. We know you  all too well.

Roch, you should give us one of these ANGRY POSTS every day!

How about Troy Percival as closer next year? He had a good come back last year and probably wouldn't cost too much.

Back to the O's...McPhail said all anybody needs to know about his intentions in rebuilding this team, and he's said it about 5 different ways.
To paraphrase..'Whatever this franchise has been doing for the last 10 years obviously has not been working'...'this team has little room for error'...'this team is more than 1 or 2 players away from competing'..How many ways can he say it? Why do people see this team as anything close to being a competitive team? This year was an unmitigated disaster, injuries or not. This team, this franchise, was exposed for what it really is, so much so that the owner thought it was about time to bring in someone who knows what the hell he is doing. I don't expect a quick fix, I don't expect rash decisions, I don't expect him to go out and sign anybody at all. I don't expect business as usual. Get used to the idea of the Orioles being run as a mid-market team built to compete from the ground on up... What other options do you have short of spending 150+ mm on a roster? We don't need to run the list of underperforming-overpaid Orioles do we? No more fluff from the incompetents who previously haunted the FO. I can live with that.
r for reality check.

Talk about false advertising. I thought this post was gonna be about the delicous candy-bar and hopefully also discuss the equally delicious recee cups and recee pieces. Darn.

As a student in Cincinnati who absolutely hates the Bengals and all the fair-weather fans in this city, I, for one, will never tire of reading posts making fun of them. Football here gives me a reason to laugh in August and September...though I'd much prefer to be distracted by a pennant race.

You all have it wrong on P Byrd. His "drug use" was above board & out in the open, unlike many others. Among other things, he wasn't hiding its purchase, he wasn't having it sent to an unknown address, nor was it to another name. He even used his personal credit card if I am not mistaken. I don't recall the particulars, but it all sounded upfront & as legit was this issue can be. H eis nothing like Raffy or J Guillen for example.

Great news on Henry, damn him, I just grabbed the jerk off waivers in my fantasy football league. With byes & injuries, I was that desperate & the available ranks where that thin.
He sounds like a good fit on the all choirboy team of your ravens though... :-)

I can't wait to read who stiffed MacFail today at the winter meetings tomorrow AM. Are dumb & dumber down there as part of the O's FO entourage Roch? I heard they tried to get Showtime to pick them up as a new pilot but that they got turned down as too far fetched of a concept.

An owner who won't spend when he should. An owner who won't sign a
pitcher for big money because they only pitch every fifth day. An owner who won't trade players his inner circle covets. And an owner who drags his feet waiting to sign a player who is about to become a free agent is why we started this year with four first basemen, no left fielder, no bench and ended up with another losing season. Please, let the turnaround begin
starting at the top.

not everyone can be saint.

just ask gerinomo gibbons.

Roch. great post!! You had me in stiches this early in the AM, despite the fact that it is snowing up here in the great white north.
Especially liked the entertainment district reference-kind of like saying he was attending a performing Art show...

man i can't sum it up any better...after reading this it makes sense to ditch bedard and roberts (and i was on the other side of the fence), but it's so true, the reality is they aren't going to stick around after 09....

in other news, did anyone else see earl waver made the top 10 on "best damn sports" for "biggest sports outbursts"..

that was a good show.

If Aubrey Huff hits the way he did in the second half of the season, then I think O's fans will be quick to forgive. But if he hits like the first half....

Returning to Thursday's "Oh Henry!" blog, I want to correct what appears as a misconception. Roch wrote that "Henry refused to pay the attendant after parking his SUV in an 'entertainment district' in Newport, Ky," with the seeming snickering, wink-wink implication being that the Bengal receiver was in an "adult entertainment" district.

http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071108/SPT03/711080305/1022

Such was not the case. As a Marylander transplanted to Cincinnati, I have a better perspective on the matter. (My heart's still in the Old Line State, however; actually it's in a jar sitting on a shelf in one of Johns Hopkins' research labs and they won't give it back. But I digress...)

Now, as the Post article reports, Henry was at Newport on the Levee, which is hardly a shady entertainment venue, as it's website's directory clearly shows:

http://www.newportonthelevee.com/directory/

But here's a Cincy story that makes the Chris Henry news pale in comparison; in fact, it gets an 11 on a scale of 10 in the category of Bizarre Criminal Defenses (definitely right up there with the infamous "Twinkies Defense") and is proof that fact CAN be stranger than fiction. Trust me, it doesn't get any weirder than this:

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071109/NEWS01/311090017

Actually, I wasn't thinking about adult entertainment (shocking!). I just imagined a bunch of bars and a bunch of ways Henry could get in trouble. But now that you mention it...

Whatever the case, I just wanted to make it known that the article's reference to an "entertainment district" didn't imply anything illegal or immoral. (I notice I'm not the only one who read your comments in the same way, Roch, though TerryP had a decidedly different reaction.)

As for Aubrey Huff, what happened to that post? Will it not return?
