Roch,

Is there ANY chance at all, that the O's even negotiate with A-Rod and then sign him. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense, and is basically beneficial in every possible way. Would they even consider a 300 milliong dollar contract? Any hope at all?

Ubaldo Kubatko has a nice ring to it.

KG, Why would Arod consider coming to Baltimore? He is going to have, at last count, four 2007 playoff teams interested in him (Boston, NY, CAA, maybe Chicago). What could Baltimore offer him? He tried the take more money to be on a bad team thing once already, he didn't care for it.

Personally I am a fan of Roch Spilborghs.

Jeff V:

Because Boras is his agent and if no one offers him the contract he is looking for the O's could step in with the highest offer and try to snag him. I'm not saying it is likely, or probable, but it is within the realm of possibilities.

The only possible way Rodriguez would come here is if the O's sell him on the possibility of being the franchise savior, "The Team That A-Rod Built." Not just in a baseball sense but in the business end as well, which coincidentally is how Boras has been trying to justify the $30MM/year figure.

Strictly in terms of field performance there is no way to justify that kind of money. But in terms of presence and credibility, who knows? MASN would catch fire for sure, at least for the first couple of years. The it would be up to the Orioles to provide a winning team on the field.

Probably next-to-zero chance that it will happen.
