The lineup
The Orioles have officially shut down Corey Patterson, who might have played his last game in Baltimore. He's a free agent after the season, and he's represented by Scott Boras. Manager Dave Trembley wants to emphasize pitching and defense, and he likes what Patterson gives him in center field and on the bases.
Here's the lineup:
Brian Roberts - 2B
Tike Redman - CF
Nick Markakis - RF
Miguel Tejada - DH
Aubrey Huff - 1B
Melvin Mora - 3B
Jay Payton - LF
Paul Bako - C
Luis Hernandez - SS
Jeremy Guthrie - P

Comments
Why is Jay Payton in there over Bynum against a righty? Neither one of them is good, but at least Bynum usually looks like he's trying and doesn't try to kill anyone.

MLB should have a losing tax for teams that are profiting while maintaining terrible records. Say, charge 10% of profits per loss for every loss over 90.
That way, owners who were raking in cash but fielding lineups full of minor leaguers wouldn't profit, and would therefore get out of the business.

RE: last night's Toronto contest. Just looked at box, and noted they scored those franchise record breaking 8 runs in first inning without an extra base hit. How is that possible? Yes, there were lots of walks and singles, but what are the odds a team can get 8 runs without an extra base hit?
Props to Guthrie for taking the ball one last time in 2007. A lesson to many on the team.

Why not just get Torii Hunter here in CF? Spend the money.

Torii Hunter is old. And he wants to win.
Both are reasons why he won't come here.
