No victory for Victor

Victor Zambrano couldn't make it out of the first inning tonight, so the Orioles brought in Kurt Birkins, who never would let that sort of thing happen to him.

I liked Zambrano the last night I saw him pitch - when he was Victor Santos.

It got so bad, some guys in the press box were playing, "Where will Frank Thomas' grand slam land?"

I had the home bullpen - at Rogers Centre.

I know that's impossible. The roof's probably closed.

Zambrano threw 36 pitches - 19 for strikes, all of them for laughs.

The Blue Jays set a club record with eight runs in the first inning.

Now they're going after any remaining Chicago Colts records from the late 1800s.

do we have to play the rest of our games?

Has anyone other than Victor Zambrano ever hit the batter with the first pitch thrown in a game before?

I just woke up from a dream...i dreamed that the Os wouldn't win 70 games. Whew! Scary!!

OK, lets go!

Hey, isn't 2007 going to be exciting!! Got a great starting lineup, D Cab to have a terrific year, Chris Ray to close, the new setup guy Baez to earn that big salary.

oh wait...

"X" out this season

Tom D - We should definately trade this Rowland(???) guy that you speak of. It's always good when you can get something for nothing!

Roch, Any truth to the rumor that Duquette has left (or soon to be leaving) the front office?

Kona_Boy - One more time now, why was it the Cardinals would trade Pujols? For anybody?

I do not think we want him, anyway. When the steroid/hGH testing thing gets really going in a year or two I think you are going to see Pujols pull a Gibby and become the incredible shrinking man.

We may think we are getting 100+ RBI and 35 - 50 HR but will end up with 75 - 80 RBI and 25 HR.

If we are going to dream, Dave has the right idea. ARod at SS would look pretty good. He would be worth 6 or 7 years at $30 mil/yr.

And speaking of steroids, does anyone else think the move the Giants pulled on the Incredible Bulk was beneath bush league?

They enjoyed the benefits of a packed house every game despite a crappy team....until he breaks the HR record. Now they are telling him it is time to move on.

After Ripken broke Gehrig's record Angelos said the streak was irrelavent (he had cashed in on it all he could), but he didn't drop Cal like a hot potato.

As little as I think of Bonds - a man who could not get out of the way of his own selfishness and greed - I think SF owes him a little more.

They should tell him 2008 is his last year and pay him the minimum. Let him have his faux farewell tour to go with his faux record.

Chicago Colts? What does that have to do with the Blue Jays?

Bring back the Worcester Ruby Legs!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Angelos - Cool.

Still friends?

Hey, who was that guy in the 1st inning wearing Jay Payton's uniform?

Did they bring Matos back and just not have a uni for him.

At least that catch was something to cheer about.

Meanwhile, who is that guy in Birkins uni?

I thought Lowen was out for the season.

Accept for doing Zambrano no favors (and putting the game out of reach), Birkins has put in 3 really nice innings.

TOM D- I wasn't the one to initially bring that up, I read it, went "huh?", and posted asking where that rumor came from and if a prospect trade would work. Geez.

k for way to Kill the messenger

Excuse me, Roch, but given the way they've been pitching, wouldn't Victor Zamboni and Victor Diabolos be more like it?

Roch,
I notice you hav been scurting the edges of dismay with the Angelos Group franchise. How about an article on how you really fel?. How about no political temprence and let it go? Time for writters to start steping up to the plate and let it go on a consistent and continuous basis. Only the fans are voicing their obvious discontent. Are the writters fans of the franchise too with emotions pent up? How about some abrupt and poignant questions to the gm and owner group. How about naming th owner group inan article. These people cannot escape because Ptey has majority ownership. They could ask for their money back too. But no they are satisfied. So name the contributors.
No more politically correct.

Neither Victor has any business being on this team. They stink. Liz needs to be shutdown...complete waste having him on the team. Throws nothing but balls -- he makes Daniel Cabrera look like a control pitcher.

What does Liz have now...21 walks in 17 innings or something like that...

Rumor has it that Jim Irsay is planning on buying the Orioles and moving them to Indy in the dead of night, just like his dad did with the Colts. But this time Baltimore fans are prepared! A group of them intend to be there when he leaves...helping him pack and throwing a tailgate party!

Ed... that's not Roch's job. The ripping gets done by Maese, Schmuck, and Steele. Roch's job is to report, with a dose of sarcasm here and there, and let you decide.

with any luck, we've seen the last of the 'guys from the scrapheap' experiments. There are usually a lot of good solid reasons that guys can't play for teams that are arguably, i'll admit, in worse shape than the O's. Ok, maybe not by much, but....

Ed So PA Fan is right about the minority owners being content. The # 1 objective of a business is maximizing shareholder wealth, and you would think there's no way that's happening now. How could it be with this product on the field and the low attendance numbers? But like Angelos, they're all making money hand over fist anyway. That's why we never hear from them. In their eyes the team is doing well.

If we're having open auditions for pitching, I'd certainly like to put my hat in the ring. I'm in my early 40's, am left-handed, and haven't thrown anything heavier than a wiffle ball in 5 years.

C'mon, if we're going to lose big-time, why not have a contest to pick a fan from the stands and "give that fan a contract": let him or her pitch an inning or to at most 5 batters. Draw the ticket at random from among the attending fans; maybe this draw a few more people to the ballpark too.

Brought to you by the letter "c", for crazier things have happened.

Could've been worse than it was, after all we had 8 strong innings of pitching after the 1st. Guys didn't quit, team played hard.

Wonder what might have been if the starting rotation was intact all season?
