Cleaning out my notebook

I asked manager Dave Trembley about September call-ups, but he hasn't discussed it with president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail. I guess that 2008 contract, which includes a club option for '09, has occupied their time. But the subject will come up during this homestand.

Still no word on where Matt Wieters will begin his professional career. The last plan I heard was Aberdeen, and then Frederick for the Carolina League playoffs.

I met Wieters in the press lounge earlier today. His face makes him look like he should be playing for his junior varsity team, but his size makes him look like he should be batting cleanup  at Camden Yards.

The Mets really are stockpiling talent for the playoffs. They acquired Luis Matos from the Pirates for future considerations.

Matos was batting .257 at Triple-A Indianapolis.

The fan who was hit by an Aubrey Huff line drive last night and was carried away on a stretcher suffered a concussion and needed 20 stitches to close a gash on his face.

I know he doesn't feel lucky this morning, but it could have been much worse.

Brian Roberts' locker area is getting crowded with all the items he's collected for auction on Sunday as part of Brian's Bash at ESPNZone to benefit University of Maryland Hospital for Children.

He has a signed hockey stick from Wayne Gretzky and jersey from Alex Rodriguez, and the one Erik Bedard wore last night while tying the Orioles' single-season record for strikeouts. He also has autographed Ramon Hernandez shin guards. You'll definitely be the first kid on your block to own them.

Or maybe you'd prefer an autographed Kenny Chesney guitar?

This is the first time I've gotten Gretzky and Chesney in the same blog entry. And they said it couldn't be done.

(I was almost desperate enough to start a rumor that Gretzky thinks Chesney's tractor is sexy)

Mark Teixeira donated a jersey, which Roberts planned on having him sign during the Rangers' visit here. But Teixeira was traded to Atlanta.

So much for my earlier comments about Cabrera and his a-game. Let the meltdown begin.

Since I dug out my Wild Bill story and put it up on YouTube, I thought I might as well put up my Evening Magazine story on Pat "The Bugler" Walker. It is so funny.

speaking of Teixeira...i have Teixeira's high school shortstop glove. long story how it came into my position, but it's still with me 10 yrs later. i wonder how much that would be worth at this point? when Teixeira went pro a few yrs ago, i figured this glove would end up as part of my retirement plan as it's been my favorite peice of equipment i've had besides my old high school bats and my bad weather glove. . no clue how to verify it was his...other than ask him?

found the entire Trembley press conference on channel 2's website.. abc2news.com.. click on sports.. I like Trembley.. a big bat or 2 and the O's could be heading to the playoffs next year

I think Trembley won my admiration when instituted mandatory pre-game streching and regular infield. I think it let som of the inmates know who was running the asylum.

Roch - Are you anonymously posting as 'Jimmy Two Times' who is your favorite Goodfellas mobster nickname?....just kiddin' dude.
