Waiting for the first pitch

For those of you who need to add another floppy hat to your wardrobe, the first 25,000 fans 21-and-over attending tomorrow night's game will receive one. It's orange. It'll go with practically anything.

Seriously, is there any way possible to look cool while wearing a floppy hat? It's sort of like riding in the back of a pickup truck.

Manager Dave Trembley envisions a day, like many fans, when the starting rotation will include Erik Bedard, Daniel Cabrera and Adam Loewen for a full season. That was the plan this year until Loewen's elbow injury. Here's looking ahead to '08.

"That’s kind of the rotation from the old Oriole days, those kinds of arms," Trembley said. "I think you build a winning team around starting pitching, and then defense. It certainly looks like those are the kinds of guys who are going to be the cornerstone of the rebuilding process of this organization. And when you look and the quickness or rapidness of all those guys’ development, the future looks real good."

Trembley told reporters that he called Bedard into his office today and lectured him on the importance of talking to the press after games. Trembley apologized to the assembled media and said it wouldn't happen again.

And none of us put him up to it. Honest.

We're still too busy running Eddie Murray out of town.

Or was it Eddie Money.

No wonder that guy doesn't play Merriweather anymore.

What is the big deal about Bedard not speaking to you guys.... and don't tell me that someone of the media persuasion or their bosses didn't complain. Do you actually think we're that naieve... Geez.

All this time I thought it was Eddie Murphy.

I thought that was what explained Norbit.

It's about time someone told Bedard to stop acting like a jackass and start talking to the media after his starts. I can't believe it didn't happen before today.

Way to work Eddie Money in there. Good work.

That's not funny to those of us that watched it actually happen. :(

It didn't actually happen. The media didn't drive Murray out of town. The owner did. And no, I'm not talking about the current one. It's time to put the media-running-Eddie-out-of-town story to rest, along with all the Cal and Kevin Costner ones. And Bigfoot.

Bruce Laird should go away. Far away. Wang should easily out pitch Danny. Total mis-match tonight. Fahey and Balko. Are you kidding? Can any of you believe Dempsey was considered as the O's manager? I can hardly keep my dinner down listening to Laird. Lastly can anyone comment on John Unitas's 1st wife. SHE WAS A PIECE OF WORK! What a mouth on that lady. Sorry, we can't talk about her. Bombs away!

If Bedard keeps throwing 2 hitters through 7 innings I dont care if he moons reporters on his way out of the clubhouse. Granted it is cool to see what the players think after a big win etc etc but isnt the WIN the most important thing... not what kind of BS he can think of to make reporters happy.

Quit worrying about what Bedard has to say, or what he doesnt have to say. Hey Fahey just got a hit! Lets hope he is productive while he is up in the show.

How do we get Markakis not to hit into double plays... most of the time he stings the ball to 2nd or short but regardless it is still 2 outs and a rally killer. blech

And with Eddie Murray gone, the Why Not year foundered at the end for lack of a clutch hitter. With Eddie in the lineup, the O's would not have faded in September. It's what the current team needs, too.

been holding back on this one, but, melvin mora is THE dumbest player in the bigs. i love his glove, but someone, please, rein this guy in!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I really still do not see why it's a huge deal if Bedard doesn't talk to the media after every game. If he's shy, why should he be forced into situations that make him that uncomfortable? His pitching speaks for itself - why isn't that enough?

I don't really have a problem, though, with Trembley discussing the issue with him in private and maybe giving him a gentle nudge, advice, etc. What I have a SERIOUS problem with, though, is Trembley telling the press that he had such a discussion. How about showing Erik a little respect and keeping a conversation like that private? If Erik truly is going to be available after every start now, then the press will figure it out on their own without being told. It just seems so demeaning and infantilizing to come to the press and basically be all, "Well, little Erik is really sorry that he stole that pen from your store, Mr. Smith. Tell Mr. Smith you're sorry, Erik!" UGH.

Roch,

Any truth to the rumor that Bedard left without talking to reporters because he had two tickets to paradise?

We will just have to agree to disagree on the Eddie Murry issue I guess.
