Brian Burres
Brian Burres really showed me something in the seventh inning.
I thought he was done after the sixth, when the Angels scored twice, but he got three easy outs in the seventh, striking out Jose Molina on a changeup. Earlier in the at-bat, he flashed that 87 mph fastball.
Burres retired the last five batters he faced after walking Vladimir Guererro.
Chad Bradford was warming in the eighth, but he sat down.

It's 7-2 in the bottom of the 7th. It's a good thing I have to go out and do my radio show. I don't want to see what the pen does with a 5 run lead.

Yes, I meant 6-2 with a 4 run lead. Even worse.

i'm with you on that one. perhaps he's broke through and out of the long relief role, and can start to extend himself a bit. i'm guessing mazzone saw something mechanical more than seeing burres tiring. what do you think??

7 2/3 for burres. hell, after the first two batters in the eighth i was ready to send him back out for the ninth. i do like shuey, though. i think he will be a welcome addition. maybe we can ramon started, too.

Nice... bottom 9th, 3-run lead, and Ray isn't up warming. How nice, let Shuey begin the inning. Walker warming up...
Hmm think this might signal a pattern? Ray has lost confidence-- or at least the coaching staff has lost confidence in Ray. I'm fine with that. There has to be consequences.

What's going on here??? Is Ray done as closer or what?

I take back what I said about Burres in an earlier entry. He showed me something tonight too. We have Bell and Olson waiting in the wings, if needed. That's a nice place to be in.

Congratulations to Brian Burres for a very nice game tonight. It was good to see Ramon and Kevin come through as well. Burres is getting extended (7 2/3 IP, 116 pitches), which is just what the bullpen needs. You can say a lot of things about Burres, but he has kept the Orioles in just about every game he's started this year. I for one would be okay with Burres being the 5th starter next year. I'd love to see what Olson can do in Trachsel's place on Wednesday!
