It must be Jupiter
Where else would I be today? I've made this trip so many times, I just close my eyes and point the car north. You should see the damage to my bumper.
Eric DuBose is starting for the Orioles today, but he's destined for the bullpen on Opening Day. Manager Sam Perlozzo sees DuBose as a long and middle man, and someone who needs to get his curveball over more consistently.
"It's tough to be a fastball, changeup guy if you don't have that excellent changeup one day," Perlozzo said.
I just ate a double cheeseburger, two chili dogs and two slices of cheesecake for lunch. It's going to be tough being a blogger around the seventh inning. But I digress...
Perlozzo said it's conceivable that DuBose and John Halama will share bullpen space on Opening Day. Of course, that would require carrying three lefties.
Here's today's lineup. No designated hitters, so we get the thrill of watching DuBose bat. Gather around, kids.
David Newhan - CF
Chris Gomez - 2B
Melvin Mora - 3B
Kevin Millar - 1B
Nick Markakis - RF
Val Majewski - LF
Brandon Fahey - SS
Eli Whiteside - C
Eric DuBose - P
Adam Wainwright is pitching for the Cardinals. Former Oriole Deivi Cruz is playing first base. I bet he swings at the first ball thrown to him there, too.
Catcher Ramon Hernandez is expected to report tomorrow after his stint with Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic. I wonder if anyone will ask him about the passed ball against the Dominican?
Now we'll find out just how nice he is.
Putting Ed Rogers in left field yesterday reminded Perlozzo of the time he went to Twins camp as a middle infielder, and manager Gene Mauch told him to play center field in the middle of an exhibition game.
"I had never been in the outfield in my life," Perlozzo said.
So how did it work out?
"Well, you know the ball always finds you," Perlozzo said, gearing up for the punch line. "I tried to make a shoestring grab of a low liner, and I came up one lace short."

Comments
Roch, when you say that Deivi will swing at the first ball thrown to him, do you mean at bat or in the field? Because both are highly likely. Sorry if I just killed the punchline, by the way.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Bud Selig has already decided to begin an investigation on whether or not Barry Bonds took steroids. My question: When is someone going to investigate Selig for impersonating an MLB commissioner? : - D

Man Roch, I gained 3 lbs just reading that menu....
I wonder if you will be the passed ball questioner? :-)
At least Sam had a fence behind him to stop the darned thing.

Kevin: I went back and tweaked the line to make it a little more obvious, but it looks like we were thinking alike.

Brian: After eating a double cheeseburger, two chili dogs and two - yes, two - slices of cheesecake for lunch, I'm more worried about passing something else.

Good Selig comment, Ken. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who realized just how lousy a job Selig has done. If only we all could be payed so well for performing so poorly.

Roch, How did Dubose & the other pitchers look swinging the bat? I'll bet real deep in the box and probably couldn't reach the inside part of the plate without falling down. Likely either left the bat on their shoulders or swung at everything/fist three pitches hoping not to make contact so they didn't have to run the bases.
