Ray Lewis says his right foot and ankle were bothering him in Colts game

Ray Lewis admitted yesterday that he did tweak his right ankle somewhat early in the game against the Colts, and that he had to fight through a bit of pain the rest of the way, but he didn't want to use it as an excuse for missing tackles, including one on Joseph Addai at the goal line.

He said it actually more like he re-aggravated a previous injury. He was limping somewhat during the second half after grabbing his leg and wincing after emerging from the bottom of a pile.

"It's kind of a foot thing that I've been dealing with," Lewis said. "Bottom line, it kind of got caught between two people on a freakish play. That's kind of the way things always happen. I came out of it ok. The limp was kind of obvious. The plant was whatever. It's going to be what it's going to be. Everybody is dealing with injuries at this point in the year. All you can do is keep nursing them and hope you'll be 90 to 95 percent when Sundays come around."

As soon as he limped out of that pile I knew that he was not going to take himself out.
Now it may be the case that no other linebacker could come in for a few plays (especially since #51 went down) but Ray needed to get that wrapped. He may say it didn't affect his play, but it clearly did. Anyone watching could see that...

Baltimore, we will most likely not see his likes again. Ray Lewis is the heart of the Ravens --- he is very much responsible for FIVE defensive coordinators becoming head coaches in the NFL. The man will go straight to the NFL Hall of Fame. Don't see anyone else heading that way, any time soon.

I still cant believe Billick and Newsome could only get one championship out of that defense.

I love the ravens and I'm a season ticket holder. Why do we always make excuses when we lose? If you are hurt bad enough to the point that it affects your play, then sit on the bench and cheer for the next man. Now I know alot of you will say half of Ray is better than all the other linebackers. This might be true, I just hate the excuses WE make when we lose.

He didn't want to use it as an excuse but here he is doing just that. When are the fans going to finally admit this over paid fraud is a has-been? In my 50 years of watching sports I have never seen someone make more excuses for losing then this clown. I guess he couldn't blame the officiating for this loss so he sneaked out to avoid the media. Now after reports come out about his missed tackles and mediocre play on pass coverage now it's an injury excuse. Be a MAN like Derrick Mason. Play hurt and SHUT UP. Did Mason make excuses after the loss to the Colts? No; he came out and said that he and the rest of the offense needs to execute in the red zone. Meanwhile, Ray Lewis does what he does best. Point the finger elsewhere at his own decaying talent. For once in your life Ray Lewis, be a man and show some class. Look to Mason; he can help.

I don't read it as him using it as an excuse. In fact, we might have never heard him admit there was anything wrong if he wasn't provoked or questioned by a reporter.

You can't read this snippet and jump to the conclusion that he was making an excuse about anything. You don't even know under what context this information came out.
