Ravens place two on IR, add FB, CB
The Ravens today placed cornerback Fabian Washington (knee) and running back Matt Lawrence (knee) on injured reserve and signed cornerback Cary Williams off the Titans' practice squad and free-agent fullback Charles Ali.
Ali, 6-feet-2 and 255 pounds, played two seasons (2007 and 2008) for the Cleveland Browns before being released. Most recently he was playing for New York of the United Football League.
An undrafted free agent out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Ali made four starts for the Browns in 2008. He was let go by the team on the final cutdown of training camp this past September.

So maybe with the signing of Ali this team goes back to the power running game in goal line situations with Ali lead-blocking for LeRon McClain and Haloti Ngata at tight end... Sometimes you just have to play straight-up, no deceptions: Let them know a run is coming and impose your will on them. If you succeed you break the other team's back, believe me. Six more games, this team can win five... or is that too much to ask?

the full back move is interesting...does this mean we see more power plays like last year with Ali posing as Neal?
Lets see....

Glad to see them get a FB, should have made this move weeks ago. I don't understand the CB, from the practice squad of another team? Another titan? I hope we see something!

Well said CCDEREK. When you impose your will, it'll also tells the other team that HEY, THEY AIN'T SCARED & THEY'RE COMING which is also a confidence booster.

Let's hope Ali floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee on Sunday night against the Steelers. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

I think we should have used Ngota as a fullback against the Colts. Go figure?

So they sign some players that will contribute absolutely nothing. Maybe they will back up some special teams players. At least we will get to see what Webb can do as a starter. I don't understand why Derrick Martin or Evan Oglesby were not brought in. They know the system and actually did a decent job. Sure, they are not that great, but neither are the guys they just signed. What a waste of space.

Ali sounds a good fit if we want a jumbo package: even if its not neal, Ali is a decent run blocker and also a good special team player... teamed with Mcclain, it could be a nice devastating combination wee desperatly need in the 4th quarter to annihilate the opposing defense will!!

For all those foaming at the mouth about the addition of Ali, please remember he couldn't even make the final cut squad of a 1-8 team.

Suffered enough? The team was in the AFC Championship game last season and are 5-5 this season, and with a couple different plays and a couple made FG's, they could easily be 8-2. You call that suffering? You want to see real suffering? Look across the street at Camden Yards for 12 years of suffering.

Is the Ravens FO on drugs or something? The team is desperate to get into the playoffs, and THESE are the best players they can sign? They really ought to be arrested for impersonating an NFL football team.

Mr. Jim tell me why are you so negative about Ozzie??? Which GM gets them 100% right. You belief that Ozzie is the problem is similar to a person who believes that because the bath water is dirty and the baby was in it, the baby must go out with the bath water. All he has ever done was try and get who the coaches wanted to run their program. My problem with your line of thinking is that for every bad player that you think he's gotten there are 5 or 6 players that you proably love. Stop the nonsense of get rid of Ozzie because it's pure garbage talk, but I guess you would kept your garbage in the fridge and put your groceries on the curb for pick-up too. BTW Martin plays for the Packers I believe.

Jim your a fool if you think Ozzie needs to be fired. His drafts have spoken for themselves over the last fifteen years. They made some bad moves in the free agent market this year but it does not mean you need to fire the guy. Who would you bring in who would do better or has a better track record?

JB, you act like there are pro-bowlers just out there, waiting to be signed. Impersonating a football team? Drama queen alert.
BTW, Oglesby signed with Miami today.

Glad to see people standing up for Ozzie. The freak-out artists who masquerade as fans need to get real -- the Ravens aren't the Browns, the Chiefs, or even the Texans (a halfway legit team). The Ravens have real talent, bu are playing like a team in transition right now because that's what they are. There's nothing wrong with what Ozzie's done. He's put most of the right pieces in place (yes, there are some obvious ones missing, but that needs to wait until free agency hits) and what we're seeing in this 2-5 slide is the emergence of the team's to-do list. Sure, this isn't as fun as having a dominant elite team to root for, but as a fan, I'd rather be part of the journey to the top. In the long run, that's much more fun than jumping on the bandwagon whenever they're hot and jumping ship whenever they're not.
And for the people who think that Ozzie is signing unknown players because he's not trying hard enough, you obviously don't get how player availability works. ANY team, elite or not, that needs a player after the trade deadline is going to end up feeling like a dude trying to find a date in the middle of the prom. At that point, what kind of material do you THINK there's going to be for him to work with?!?

For all the people criticizing these moves, I have one question for you: Who do you think they should have signed? Before anyone shows their ignorance, let me remind you that the trading deadline passed five weeks ago.

John you said it best....... Btw look at who we have to sign next year so it's obvious that this was a transition year and the best is yet to come.

Beware of 98% of the Ozzie bashers whenever they show up on the Sun board. They are nothing more than Browns fans hoping to stir up trouble so that they might have a chance to bring him back to Cleveland.

Beware of 98% of the Ozzie Newsome apologists whenever they show up. They're nothing but members of Ozzie's family who will do anything to keep the obvious truth about Newsome's poor choices from sinking in to the average fan.
