Mason offers a mea culpa, but doesn't regret his outburst
About 24 hours after he publicly ripped an official for missing a blatant pass interference call and incurring a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty in the first quarter of Sunday's 30-7 victory over the Denver Broncos, wide receiver Derrick Mason acknowledged that his emotional display may have been a little too much.
But Mason wouldn't go so far as to say that the outburst was unwarranted.
"I think I’ve smiled a little bit too much on the field, and sometimes they take your kindness for weakness, and they’re never going to give you a penalty," he said. "It just came out, I guess, or maybe I was frustrated about some other thing, but it all came out. Once it happened, I forgot about it honestly. I even apologized to the referee for showing him up. I didn’t do it deliberately, and he understood. Hopefully, it won’t happen again. I think I got a make-up call later in the game on a hands-to-the-face call or illegal contact. Sometimes squeaky wheels get the oil. Maybe I need to be the squeaky wheel more often."

All these officials seem to not see the penalties committed against us no matter how blatant but see every penalty we commit and even ones we don't commit . I'm not saying the fix is in but how can these things happen week after week and not be corrected .this pass week there was a last flag ,so last that I almost had time to make something to eat refresh my drink and use the bathroom to be back in time to hear the call . So something has to give.

Mason is a class act. Another reason why he is one of my favorite Ravens

I think our receivers and Joe the QB all need to start making a little noise when they are recipients of obvious penalties by the opposing defense. If Flacco waved his arms a little like Brady he might get a fair call.

We do not seem to get too many of these calls that go our way and it just boiled over for Mason, no big deal, he is a consumate pro!We could sure use a few of these calls to go our way once in awhile, the balance seems to be out of balance when it comes to the Ravens, hopefully that will change, we need some ofg these calls to go our way! Go Mase!!!

I honestly thought at that time that Derrick was just trying to fire his team and the stadium up;and I still do.That ref was obviously still dreaming about that hot latte' he drank in his locker room and the game got away from him,I believe.

Thr refs are ruining the game with all the bad calls, 2 minute conferences, and excessive number of penalties called per game. I haven't gone back to check the stats but I'm pretty sure there were substatially fewer penalties called in the 60's and 70's. The games were much more fun to watch back then.

I know alot has been said about referees hating Baltimore, being part time employees, and even going so far as saying the league has a vendetta against the Ravens. While I don't think any of it is necessarily the problem, I would like to call attention to something that blatantly is. How can we expect these old out of shape men to keep up with the biggest and fastest athletes on the planet? Did anyone see the ref fall on his face in the Eagles game? It was pathetic. Clearly, with the invention of HD television, the viewers at home have a better view of the plays then the refs on the field. It also doesn't help that most of them have to wear glasses. The game of football has evolved, now the way its officiated needs to evolve with it.

I agree with most of what is being said here. I'd rather see a few missed flags than too many. It ruins the flow of the game. As long as it is fair and equal per team, let them play as much as you can without destroying the integrity of the game. Right now, the refs are waiting to see players' reactions before throwing a flag. If they see a penalty, throw it. If not, let them play.

Imagine what it takes to become the best route running receiver of all time......imagine what it feels like to have atleast 2 games taken away from you this year by Roger Goodell's senior drones.......then imagine being mugged and molested and not getting a blatanly obvious call you need and deserve.....its fake, its frustrating, its unfair and its as phoney as wrestling....betting line profit margain controlled..... and until you people remove your money from the equation Goodell could care less what you think.
