Lewis angered by Quinn's hit on Suggs
Linebacker-defensive end Terrell Suggs could be out for an extended period, and linebacker Ray Lewis isn't happy about it.
Suggs was injured on the Ravens' second interception of the game, when Browns quarterback Brady Quinn delivered a low block on Suggs on the interception return. Quinn was penalized for a low blow, but Lewis wants more.
“Heck yeah it was a cheap shot,” Lewis said after the Ravens' 16-0 win. “When you’re running down and you’re looking at the quarterback going at somebody’s knees who doesn’t even have the ball. I want to see if he gets the same fine I got or even higher. Now this man is out four or five weeks because of some baloney like that.”
Quinn said he didn’t hit Suggs intentionally.
“I was trying to go for the ball carrier,” he said. “Suggs came across at the last second in my vision. I would never wish that upon anyone. I was upset about it on the field. We worked out in Arizona together. I couldn’t be any more sorry about that. That was never the intent. I’m sorry to Terrell and the rest of their team.”

Pipe down Ray Ray! Focus your attention on Peyton Manning and not getting embarrassed on Sunday!

When I saw this play occur....it was obvious to me that Quinn was frustrated and not trying to make a tackle...he was simply going to take out whoever was in front of him because of his and his team's incompetence. Paybacks are hell....they should remember this and one one day try to ruin this punks career!

Mike, I'm not sure that I agree with your angered thoughts, however, I did note that later in the game when Ray Lewis broke through the Brown's O-Line untouched, Quinn simply dropped to the ground before Ray was able to lay a hit on him. Can't say I blame him!! Even on a professional level, paybacks are a .....!

Hey Bacon! You pipe down. Rays standing up for his teammate who was obviously injured on a cheap play. Dont know about you but I like guys who are team players.
Posted by: Big Bacon | November 17, 2009 9:54 AM
Speaking of injuring opposing players, I can't believe none of ESPN's 300 cameras caught Dwan Edwards' hit on Cribbs on the last play of the game. That must've been a vicious blow.
Posted by: Bernie | November 17, 2009 10:01 AM
Good for Ray but also good for Quinn for apologizing. It is possible it wasn't intentional, things do unfold quickly in those situations.

Hey bacon, go back to your indiana farm, no one wants to hear your bs.
Posted by: Thrall | November 17, 2009 10:07 AM
they did show the cribbs replay after the game, but due to their infatuation with Brady Quinn and his tight buns and flowing hair, they didn't show a replay, much less talk about it.
The Cribbs hit was same hit that got put on Jimmy Claussen against Navy that forced a fumble on the 1. Didn't look like much, but their helmets hit and he probably got KO'ed and a stinger. Wasn't a Hines Ward hit or anything

"I can't believe none of ESPN's 300 cameras caught Dwan Edwards' hit on Cribbs on the last play of the game."
They did. It didn't look that bad; I was surprised that it injured Cribbs. He's the only guy on that team who's worth anything. I hope he's back soon.
Posted by: Dave Johnson | November 17, 2009 10:34 AM
ESPN elected not to show the hit, but I rewound and saw it. Basically Cribbs, after lateraling the ball, was still running across the field but wasn't looking. Dwan Edwards was runing down the field and took him out. It wasn't malicious, it's just that he's probably 100 pounds heavier. I'm specualting a a broken collarbone/separated shoulder injury.
Posted by: WIld Bill | November 17, 2009 10:38 AM
As far as saw, you could look at Quinn's face a minute or two. They did a close up and he was not happy about it. Add to the apology, I do not think it was his intention to hurt him.
It is the reason why the silly "Do not hit below the knee" rule should be inforced and maybe added to all players outside of open field tackles.
Posted by: Don | November 17, 2009 10:51 AM
Dwan blasted him but I did not think it was malicious either. Cribbs lateralled the ball and was then kind of turning back to look at the play when he ran right into Edwards. Edwards launched in to him at the last second and leveled him. I did not think it was that bad either but I did read somewhere else that it appeared as though he hit him in the throat with his forearm. Not sure about that. Bottom line, Cribbs was on offense and got in the way of Edwards. Edwards had a right to hit him. Quinn dove at a player that did not have the ball because he was frustrated that he and his team are so god awful. He should definitely be fined just like Ray said.

As for the hit on Cribbs, I blame that entirely on Mangini or whoever calls their plays. They were down by 16 points with 5 seconds left. As far as I know, there is no way to score 16 points on one play, so Mangini is an idiot to excuse his players (and ours) to possible injury on a helter skelter play like that where multiple semi-blind side hits are possible if not likely. Still, I hope Cribbs is okay.

meant to say "expose" not "excuse"

Ray Lewis is the Biggest crybaby in the NFL. Wasn't it few short weeks ago Ray Ray was b------- about Suggs getting a penalty going after Tom Brady's knee. But now he's crying the other way. What a Punk.
Posted by: Ray Ray The crybaby | November 17, 2009 11:16 AM
Sorry, Ray. I don't want to hear anything. Your are the king of the cheap shot. (i.e. Chad Johnson Helmet to Helmet hit.) Ray should say nothing. Plus if a big boys like Suggs getting injured by a QB he should be worry about the rest of his career.
Posted by: Kevin | November 17, 2009 11:19 AM
Please! The Ravens upset about cheap shots??? Especially on Thuggs? He's one of the dirtiest players in the NFL. Plus, wasn't Thuggs the one that spoke of bounties the Ravens have on certain players?
Quinn apologized profusely after the game. All I have to say is:
Ring, ring!!
Hello, Kettle?
This is Pot - you're black...
Posted by: QUIPDUDE | November 17, 2009 11:26 AM
to Kevin and the guy above him, please take your lack of knowledge and your inability to comprehend what you are seeing on tv somewhere else. thank you.
Posted by: Ben | November 17, 2009 11:29 AM
I think it's pretty laughable that anybody from the Ravens is complaining about cheap shots - especially one on Thuggs. He is one of the dirtiest players in the NFL and spoke openly on a radio call-in show about bounties he and his team mates have on members of other NFL teams.
But, coming from the pile-jumper Lewis has become, it's no surprise. It's clear that the Ravens defense is a mere shadow of what it once was and Lewis will do or say anything to sustain the aura of its long ago greatness. Let it go, Ray-Ray. I think it's time to get on with your life's work...
Posted by: QUIPDUDE | November 17, 2009 11:43 AM
Fact is, Lewis' hit on Johnson may have been a cheap shot, but Johnson didn't miss any playing time. If Suggs is in fact out for an extended time, Quinn should be fined -- and the fine should be some multiple greater than Lewis'.

QUIPDUDE - If you're going to make statements like Suggs is "one of the dirtiest players in the NFL" have some info to back it up.
Here's some for you (as voted by NFL players). Suggs is nowhere to be found...

John - Sorry, I should have stated that it was my opinion regarding Thuggs. However, you DO realize that that poll to which you have so graciously provided a link was given only to about 15% of the current NFL players with most of those being non-starters and/or special teams, right?
Posted by: QUIPDUDE | November 17, 2009 12:21 PM
John - Again, sorry, in my earlier reply I should have said the poll was RESPONDED TO by 15% of current NFL players. My bad.
Posted by: QUIPDUDE | November 17, 2009 12:25 PM
QuipDude, what a lame name. Pile jumper.? Your nuts man, he's still in on almost every play if you actually watch the games which I doubt you do. Your just a career negative, menstrating blogger that goes on papers and says stuff to try and rile people up with no factual data to back it up. Same with Kevin, I smell your Steeler stench from California. All you could come up with is the hit on Ochocinco from four weeks ago. Wow you sure told us Ravens fans how dirty our team is with that one example that everyone has seen replayed in the last week. That hit wasn't dirty according to the rules because he made contact in the chest area. It just looked violent because his helmet was loose. And to that crybaby stuff, apples to oranges turbo. Suggs lightly grazed Brady's precious leg because he was blocked into him, so I would have been "crying" about that call too as cleaveland has right to complain about call on flacco

Hilarious cartoon on the NFL roughing the passer policy

Check this out for those who think Suggs is dirty and Ray was just crying for the fun of it.

So kevin, a 180 pound player taking out another players knees is lame because the 180 pound player is a QB ? You are an idiot.
Posted by: brady _piehole | November 17, 2009 12:46 PM
Please....Ask Tom Brady and Ochocinco what they think of Ray Lewis and cheap shots.

THis guy sounds like a broken record with all his complaining!! Your a Saint huh Ray. How about knowing about your Homies murdering someone. Gimme a break..
Posted by: Jon Buckley | November 17, 2009 1:40 PM
Its a shame that Ray had to speak up on this matter instead of John Harbaugh. Suggs isn't playing very well but the team needs him on the field.
Posted by: dspedden | November 17, 2009 1:56 PM
Ray Lewis crying after a game about something? That never happens.... He'll be crying again after the Colts and Steelers lay about 5 touchdowns a piece on the old folks Ravens defense in the next 2 weeks..
Posted by: Blubaron79 | November 17, 2009 2:12 PM
Please, Suggs is a man. He should take a hit like a man.
Well, it's not exactly what Ray Lewis said earlier this season, but the idea is the same.
"He's a man. He can be hit just like us"
Funny how Ray wants different rules when it comes to his teammates. Illegal or not, flag or not, suck it up Suggs. Shut up Ray.

Posted by: HIM | November 17, 2009 3:12 PM
I can't believe some of the talk i'm hearing from.....baltimore fans? does'nt sound like it to me. Ray and Suggs are the farthest thing from dirty players. whatever idiots were saying that ray is the king of the cheap shot then they don't have a clue about the game of football and what they are watching. Ray plays straight up and full tilt the way the game was meant to be played. old school. same with suggs, he plays straight up and i'm sure apposing players will tell you the same thing. people like you don't deserve to have a player like ray lewis on yer team. luckily you are in the minority and Ray is a Raven!
Posted by: nick | November 17, 2009 3:15 PM
I say go ahead and let this siuation pump up Ray Ray. Regardless of who he is mad at the Colts are going to pay the price since that is who he will see next. As far as him being a cry baby that is absurd. While he usually has a lot to say he hardly ever complains execpt for stating that he expects better out of his teammates.

To all you bozos like quaalude or whatever your name is: don't shoot the messenger. Just because you don't like Ray Lewis doesn't mean it wasn't a "What do you mean? You can't call that on me! I went to Notre Dame!" cheap shot. Quinn needs a hefty fine whether Gruden and Jaworski ignored it or not.

Only the Ravens cry that QB's and WR's are hitting their defensive players to hard.
Waaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!

What a big, bad defense this is! A couple of hard-hitting defensive players crying about being hit by... a quarterback?!? Too funny.
Posted by: Baltimoron | November 17, 2009 4:13 PM
If a large black man from a lower-income background like Lewis put a dirty hit like that on a spoiled white prettyboy like Quinn, ESPN would replay in 5,000,000 times talking about what a dirtbag he was and there'd be outraged callers ranting about it on every sports-talk radio station in the country, many of them even making overtly racist remarks. Ray is absolutely right to stand up for his team and the double standards out there. Quinn was mad about his own incompetence as a QB and took out his frustration in a way that intentionally harmed someone else's livelihood. There's no excuse for that, no matter how pretty and privileged you are or how high you were taken in the draft.
Posted by: gritty | November 17, 2009 4:27 PM
Brett Favre was fined $10,000 for his preseason low block against Eugene Wilson of the Vikings. Brady Quinn will likely be fined for this hit, as well he should.

Jameel, Ellerbe, Johnson, etc. could make life miserable for Big B1 tch and Manning if the D coordinator would blitz more instead of staying with the base defense........

two quick thoughts
1.how in the hell does anyone cast dispersions at ray for taking up for his teamate?
2.if i were on that team and got cut down by a brady wanna be id want my team to back me up too. football is a vicious game, can't hack it.... theres always syncronized swimming.
Posted by: Anonymous | November 17, 2009 5:44 PM
It's hilarious to see all the Ravens fans trying to justify not only Ray-Ray's illegal hit on OchoSTINKo, but also the hit on Cribbs last night. There was absolutely NO DIFFERENCE whatsover between a hit like Hines Ward on Rivers last year and what happened last night to Cribbs. Anyone who says otherwise is either blind, has not a shred of knowledge about football, or both.
It's football. It's a CONTACT sport and sometimes stuff happens. Gotta keep yer head on a swivel!
Posted by: Stop Whining | November 17, 2009 5:48 PM
What kind of numb nut posts something about how the Steelers can't score against Temple after the Ravens took more than an entire half to get ONE td against Central Cleveland High's JV squad??
Did you have a frontal lobotomy for breakfast?? LMAO....
Posted by: Whiners | November 17, 2009 5:55 PM
How ironic for Ray OJ Lewis, who was arrested for a double murder, then plea bargained to a lesser charge of obstruction of justice in the double murder trial, cries about someone taking a cheap shot on one of his homies. The arrogance and gall of this whining jerk whose legacy will always be an orange jump suit and handcuffs.
Posted by: The Irony of it all | November 17, 2009 6:27 PM
How ironic that nobody actually believes his legacy is in an orange jumpsuit besides you? Count Ray's rings, pro bowl and mvp awards, then get back to us with more of your hateful babble that nobody really cares for anyways.

ray should have shown some
small sportsmanship at least
and went over to see how
the brown's injured player
was at the end of the game..
ray plays with a passion, but
sometimes his emotions are
out of control.
the late hit on ocho-chinco
costs the ravens valuable field
position and eventually the game....
with his pro bowl experience,
he should know better.....

If our esteemed guest commentators so generously and freely sharing their thoughts on Ray Lewis' character are Browns fans, you are excused. You are having a bad go of it this year, with no hope whatsoever in sight for several years to come. We feel for you; must be kinda like rooting for the Orioles. But, if they are, as I suspect, Pitts. fans ( who apparently don't have any blogs of their own), I would be interested in reading some of their insightful discussion on the Pitts. 11/15. game. so many of these bloggers here and in Cleveland (worse there!) are vitriolic in their comments -- downright hateful. Some of you folks need to read what you are writing -- along with the caps and exclamation points ..... is this your life .. all that was being said is the obvious -- Brady Quinn was on Monday night a very bad and frustrated football player who put an unnecessary, purposeful, illegal, hit on a defenseless Terrill Suggs ("I meant too tackle the runner", please Brady what you did is on film ... the runner was not Suggs). Who believes this?
Posted by: mlv | November 18, 2009 10:11 AM
Funny how the guy who murders people in limos is crying about a qb hurting a player. The king of the cheapshot is crying thats awesome
Posted by: Dan | November 18, 2009 8:30 PM
It is clear that people like Dan have nothing of substance to lend to an interesting and debatable situation concerning the two hits in the Cleveland game, but how incredibly ignorant is it to revert back to an unrelated situation 9 yrs ago as if that proves anything. Dan you're an idiot get the facts straight and try to pay attention to the issue of the day.
Posted by: Dan is an Idiot | November 19, 2009 7:58 AM
I think that Quinn is scared of Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Defense. Everyone knows that the browns cant win a game they are pathetic this year. I think he was just mad and wanted to intetionally hurt someone.
