Instant analysis from Ravens' 30-7 victory

What our reporters, columnists and editors thought about the Ravens' 30-7 win over the Denver Broncos today at M&T Bank Stadium.

Mike Preston: Let me repeat this: The Broncos are soft. In fact, the entire AFC West is soft.

Jamison Hensley: How were the Broncos undefeated? Kyle Orton and the Denver offense made the Ravens defense look like the 2000 version.

Ken Murray: The Ravens' attack defense finally showed up, turning the Denver offense into a series of dumpoffs and throwaways. The pressure on Kyle Orton was consistent, the run defense was solid and the pass defense was impressive. The offense did what it had to, and emphasized the run.

Edward Lee: The Broncos forgot to bring their offense on the flight east.

Kevin Cowherd: The Ravens finally played like the Ravens. They had swagger, they had attitude, they made big plays. Their coach, John Harbaugh, was as fired up as I've ever seen him on the sidelines. They got their mojo back.

Ron Fritz: The Ravens finally got a complete effort from everyone. They "played like Ravens," John Harbaugh's favorite saying, on offense, defense and special teams.

Everybody came to play today and the tone was set right from the start with the sack by jarett johnson. However the main thing that stood out for me was how aggressive ED REED played and that my friends was the difference. What a complete difference with both safties coming up to stop the run.

Mike called it all week.....they are SOFT!!!

They got their mojo workin'.
The Defense was back.
And...the Return of Le'Ron McClain.

Give Greg Mattison credit he called a very good game they must keep this defense up for the next 9 games. Good job coach.

I do not htink the Broncos are soft I think the Ravens finally showed up today on the defensive side of the ball. We beat them on the line almost all day long on offense and defense!

Great win BUT the intensity must be there for each of our opponents who will test us. Finally, we have an attack to compliment our defense. Take no game for granted, including Cleveland.

We have to win more games like this. With a 23 point lead with less then 60 seconds to play in the game, there was nothing the refs could do to screw us out of this win. We have to continue to put teams away early because we know the refs aren't going to give us any breaks.

How convenient - the Ravens D finally brings its A game and Preston writes it off to Denver being "soft" - a total lack of respect for the effort put forth by the team today! Guess maybe the Ravens should just pack up their pads and wait for the offseason.

Two story lines here: first , the Ravens got a real contribution from the special teams. A kickoff TD return from an emerging playmaker, no penalties on coverage, 3 for 3 on FGs, and nearly a blocked punt by Reed. Second, a defense with some bite to it: tight coverage in the secondary, pounding the QB - Johnson was a beast, and dominant line play.

Whether the Broncos are soft or the Ravens made them look soft, the tempo and tenor of that game was set on the first play from scrimmage when Johnson flattened Orten for a sack. By late in the game both Ravens lines were totally dominating play and the pressure on Orten was consistent all game long. That makes the secondary play better.

Loved what I saw from Webb. He tackles and sheds blocks plus he's a threat.

I just hope Ngata's injury isn't bad...losing him would really hurt.

You could see the sense of urgency the team played with today. To top it off,the corners and safeties were breaking to the ball like the pros they are.Denver is not good enough to beat this year's Ravens team.Rookies are contributing valuable playing time, also.

Ya Mike you finally got one right ...the law of averages was on your side.....its not that Denvers defense was soft....they were quite firm actually ...its just that Mattison finally stopped being stubborn and realized that in the NFL zero pressure equals zero defense.....the Ravens pressure dominanted the Broncos Offensive line......that was the difference in the game....to bad all the Ravens opponents cant be from the AFC west...

The game was all about field position and we can thank Hauschka for that. He actually kicked 3 or 4 into the end zone for a change and even had his second touchback of the year. Kicking like that can make all the difference against good teams. Let's hope he can continue that.

What do you mean the Broncos are soft?!?!!! They are anything but soft. I thought they were goiong to suck rotten cheese this year but look who they have beaten...Cincy, Dallas, NE, and SanD. Sure, the Cincy game was lucky but they were in it at the end and had a chance to win at the end. We lost to Cenc and NE - sure could have beaten both but didn't. Point is, Denver is NOT soft. We came out and took the game away from the refs. We have to play above everyone so we can keep the refs out of the game. Excellent Game Ravens. Had a big ol' smile for 3 hours :-)

They didn't suddenly get better; they got....smarter, especially on defense where they returned to their aggressive, "in your face", fly to the ball, pressure defense that has been their trade mark! That defense, coupled with a prolific offense, will make them tough to beat down the stretch......

Just because we won doesn't mean that the Broncos are soft. I liked that WE set the tempo, hurry up on offense and lots of pressure on defense. Our safeties who absolulely SUCKED the past few games, showed up and played fundamental, physical football. BTW, did you see Brandon Marshall short arm that pass when Ray was locked on? Priceless...

After predicting Ravens in a squeaker, now Preston and Helmsley call the Broncos weak and awful? If they are so soft, why didn't you predict a blow out? Give credit where credit is due. The Ravens defense came to play and the offense moved the ball against a very tough Broncos defense. The only softness in the Broncos game might be their deep passing.

The looked as good as I had hoped coming off the bye and I had pretty high expectations. The defense was outstandng, great coverage (Marshall was SHUT DOWN), and they got pressure on Orton against a really good O-line. Offense didn't put up big yardage but certainly did more than enough against that defense, and Lardarius Webb better now be the permanent kick returner, the Ravens needed a big play from their special teams and he gave it to em.

I agree that they have to match that intensity for the rest of the season, they can only afford two more losses IMO.
