Instant analysis from Ravens' 17-7 loss
How our experts saw Sunday's big AFC North loss to the Bengals:
Jamison Hensley: To go from your best effort to your worst in a matter of a week is not a sign of a playoff team. After getting swept by the Bengals, the Ravens should forget about winning the AFC North.
Ken Murray: No team that follows its best effort of the year with the worst should be considered a worthy playoff team, let alone a Super Bowl contender. The Ravens are way too inconsistent to go deep into January.
Kevin Cowherd: Ravens inexplicably listless play might have doomed playoff chances. Drop-off in playmaking from the Denver game is astonishing.
Kevin Van Valkenburg: For a team that was supposedly playing with a sense of urgency, this was a weak effort. No passion in the first half, and no real strategy. The Ravens should have come out in the no huddle at the start of the second half just to switch things up. They waited far too long to do something drastic. Steve Haushka needs to get his head right, or it's time to find an alternative. Lastly, what was up with Flacco most of the day? Bad footwork, bad throws and bad body language. Time to be a leader, quarterback. People don't seem to be listening to some of the old leaders anymore.
Ron Fritz: Unprepared, outplayed and overwhelmed. Just a horrible effort in a must-win game for the Ravens. Didn't see that one coming.
Mike Preston: I can't help myself. Anyone seen Matt Stover? Is he still with the Colts?

Comments
Ravens looked lost on offense and defense and came out not wanting to hit anyone right from the satrt as they have done in most of there games this year. Football is a 60 minute game from start to finish, tha Ravens do not understand that, The offens and defense were not prepared by the coaching staff, and if Mattison is back next year shame on John Harbaugh. When yo spot t=good teams 14 points in the first quarter as thay di today and against the vikings there ois something wrong with the guy prepering them, and the guys on the field. Very sorry perfoemance by a poor football team!

Unfortunately, this is the real Ravens. Need to replace every DB except Reed next year. None of them are worth a crap. Carr and Foxworth have to be the worst pickups ever in the history of Baltimore, for what, 23 Million?? I'd play better for half that and I'm 70.
Posted by: JnyU | November 8, 2009 4:29 PM
six calls that fouts thought the ravens got screwed on...you cannot play the refs and the other team...it's unreal...really? derrick mason wasn't held on the pump fake at the 4 yard line? I can go on and on...it's obvious the defense is playing soft because everything is a penalty...ed reed thrown down on a punt---no call....I can go on and on...i'm sick of it...it's BS...we all know it...these aren't excuses..they are absolute realities

Nobody should be surprised by this loss. The Ravens are who we thought they were. Where are those who say we don't need playmaking wide receivers? How many of those deep balls would have been caught by Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin?
This team is losing because of the failures of Ozzie Newsome. The starting corners are a joke. The starting safeties are a joke. They can't tackle. It's like they're playing flag football out there.
It's time for Ozzie Newsome to leave gracefully. It is also time for Steve Bischiotti to man up and pay for playmaking football players on both sides of the ball.
Were there any sightings of Suggs in the stadium today?

Unfortunately, I did see this coming. This team is WILDLY inconsistent. Our O & D coordinators were terrible, and once again, do not implement the necessary changes during a game to put the team in a position to win. Starting 3-0 looks like a fluke. I had much higher expectations for this team. Last thing, why have the Ravens led the league in penalties since they landed in Baltimore? Pathetic.
Posted by: Chris | November 8, 2009 4:35 PM
Granted the Ravens did not play a great game but was very much knocking on the door before Haskua (Should be cut any day now) blown yet another crucial opportunity. Not going to boohoo about the officiating, but am I the only one that sees that the non-call on Mason could should have resulted in a penalty, taking it out of the horrible replacement for Stover's hands to doom the game. Who's responsiblity is it to send film to the league office? Cass? I agree with the analysis that this game as damaged the ravens playoff potential but as a fan I am not for sure if the Ravens can get a fair game in a crucial moment. Case and point, they blew out Denver, unless they blow out a good team the officials will take it away.
By the way-Mattison should be out of here-THIS TEAM IS WAY BETTER THAN 4-4.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes. Is this one of the worst secondaries ever assembled? I'm not one for hyperbole, but this group is overwhelmed by any QB with a few seconds and knowledge that a deepball is good for a completion, a flag, or both.
I know it was probably time to move on, but we might be 6-2 with Stover. At least 5-3 with a shot. I agree with all of you. Bye bye playoffs. Ughhhh... it's too early to think about the Orioles.
Posted by: JPA | November 8, 2009 4:44 PM
And just think one of you guys thought the Ravens were going to the super bowl. Uh guys this just in, just as Brian Billick time has passed in Baltimore, so has Ozzie Newsome & Eric Decosta's time. His drafts are weak, just think they have a second round draft pick who can't get on the field because he doesn't play special teams, or play like a Raven as the coach says. Also this team still needs a wide receiver.
Posted by: james | November 8, 2009 4:49 PM
You know, every time the Ravens have lost to the Bengals, you writers always say " it was a lousy effort" or some excuse or explanation that does not give the Bengals credit. The reality is the Ravens have been swept. In 2009 Cincy is the better team.
Posted by: ONYX | November 8, 2009 4:50 PM
The defense got on track in the second half. Unfortunately the offense never did. Horrible game from Joe Flacco. Winning the division? It would be a miracle if they made it to the playoffs. Playing like a Ravens? How about coaching like a Raven? Get a handle on it coach Harbaugh...the buck stops with you!!!
Posted by: Mike | November 8, 2009 4:54 PM
As a die hard fan of the Ravens this was one of those disgusting performances, and I felt the team was overwhelmed from the start.
The team never got into rhythm offensively and I love Flacco's cool nature but he looked sleepy today. Ray Rice and Lardarius Webb are BIG-TIME and the latter should NEVER be a backup again for the next ten years or so!
The Ravens need a legit WR going into next year and NEED to address that obvious perception asap.
What a shame this team lost to Pittsburgh 3 times last season and will not be able to follow up those heartfelt efforts with a meaningful attempt at redemption in 09.
Swept by the Steelers last season and now Cincinnati this season-WOW!

This loss angers me as a fan. Total lack of effort. I work hard every week and look forward to seeing my team play on Sunday. To put forth that kind of effort.....your just a bunch of prim a donas. You don't deserve paychecks for that kind of performance. The only people who actually tried seemed to be Ray Rice and L. Webb, Everyone else was a disgrace. This isn't Cleveland. Get out there and play for your team and city. We deserve better than that.

Benglas fan here. Going in to this one, I thought the Bengals could be in trouble, but they pulled it out. Maybe this is their year. I've got a hundred times the respect for the Ravens and their organization than what I have for Sh*tsburgh. hate that team. Be rooting for the Ravens anytime they go against that other team whose real name I will never say.
Posted by: Aaron | November 8, 2009 5:08 PM
Dear Mr Bischotti,
I am too busy during the week to waste my time watching a pathetic effort from everyone involved in this game!
There is not one individual effort, with the POSSIBLE exception of Ray Rice, worth me spending 3 hours of my time today.
This season is over, without other teams melting down on their own, and the likelihood of the Ravens even making the playoffs is gone.
I gave up rooting for the O's because the owner has failed to put a competitive product out for consumption. Unless your team turns this around immediately, I am pondering giving up on your team too.
Please dont accuse me of being a "fair-weather fan". I have rooted for the Ravens since day one. I hate to see them lose, but in the past when they lost they competed. This team doesnt appear to have the heart and passion of previous years.
With one more "unspirited" loss, you will free up my weekends so I can do other things besides spend it being frustrated with a team that isnt getting it done!
PS - you really should spend some energy with Mr Goodell and discuss the disparity of referees' calls against the Ravens. Most of the penalties I saw against us were deserved; there were, easily, equally as many calls not made against the Bengals. That wouldnt have changed the outcome of this game. But enough is enough.
PSS - here's a strategy option for the first quarter: line up our defense as if they are going to play, and just let the other team run the first series without really trying to stop them. This might leave them with a little more in the tank for the end of the game.
PSSS - I still think Haushka was the right choice, His miss today wouldnt have changed the game either.
Posted by: aTALL1 | November 8, 2009 5:12 PM
Haushka is GONE - no ability to kick in the clutch - 2 awful and crucial misses - 1 wins a game for us - the other today changes the last 5 minutes completely in my mind...........almost everything he kicks under pressure is WIDE LEFT.....should have kept Stover or the kid from Fla. State..if he is still wearing purple by Tuesday I will be SHOCKED...........Fabian will never get that job back - good - Webb played well - Cincy did not score after he came in - and perfect set up for Ladarius next week starting vs. Cleveland.....pssssst.....the D-Line is getting old and slow............Ngata would not have helped - he has not played well this year. Our lack of a deep threat at WR is starting to show up versus good defenses......might be a long 2nd half of year...
Posted by: Rich | November 8, 2009 5:13 PM
Complete waste of another Sunday afternoon - embarrassing. After we lose 2 to the Steelers; we should be in pretty good shape within the division... Like our team leaders reiterated throughout the week, "We know what's in front of us, we know who's on the schedule." Unfortunately, we didn'y realize that the Ravens would just lie down and let it get taken to them. The coaches were outcoached by Marvin again. Thank God for college basketball!!!
Posted by: Tom | November 8, 2009 5:14 PM
Well Ron, I saw this one coming. The Bengals had something to prove, and they did it. The Bengals are clearly a superior team than the Ravens, who are probably living on last year's laurels. Ozzie and Harbs made some drastic errors this past offseason (defensive backs, kicker, draft picks) and they are paying for it now.
Posted by: Bob | November 8, 2009 5:15 PM
Unbelievable! Terrible! An unmitigated disaster! What was left of the season is pointless. I love my RAVENS, but this was a horrific performance by a team that, at times, plays like it could care less about the outcome. I know that CANNOT be the case, but it certainly looks that way. Can we finally drop Fabian Washington and Frank Walker? Why did the RAVENS not try to get TY LAW! There are really no other words to describe a season with such major promise and hope, just suddenly drop by the wayside. Between Pittsburg 2x, Indianapolis and Green Bay, there is no way the RAVENS make the playoffs, NO WAY! It would take a THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS miracle for this underachieving team to pull this season out of the ashes. If you believe in Santa and a supreme being, start asking both for a gift.
Posted by: Bill | November 8, 2009 5:17 PM
What was Ozzie doing this past summer? Sleeping? Really Ozzie, retaining Hauschka over Stover was the Raven's first big mistake; this kid is so nervous he couldn't kick for a semi-pro team; he is baaaaaaaaad! Please get rid of Hauschka - give Koch a try. Think about it - he couldn't do any worse.
The Raven's second biggest mistake - signing Frank Walker. He is completely lost, doesn't have any idea what he is suppposed to be doing out there and probably couldn't cover most college kids (espeically those from the SEC). I don't want anyone to get hurt, but when Walker was replaced today, our defense got better. Also, Fabian Washington should go to NFL Europe to re-learn tackling and covering. I feel quite sorry for Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Ngata, et al - they can't make up for the BUMS playing corner. (And I do mean BUMS) We Raven's fans have to be cringing about our defense facing Indy.
Posted by: J V | November 8, 2009 5:18 PM
A very "Billick-like" performance in a game that they had to have.
Did the coaching staff learn nothing from the first game?
They looked like they hadn't practiced all week and Flacco played his worst game of the year.
They do not deserve to make the playoffs
Posted by: Ed D. | November 8, 2009 5:20 PM
We got whipped for the second Bengaled time and the team was'nt ready at the kickoff. Missed field goal from 32 yds. does'nt seem excusable this time.Maybe there are too many distractions during the week for some of our players?; the fans knew this would be a tough game!
Posted by: Dan R. | November 8, 2009 5:23 PM
Okay, Sun journalists, you no longer owe the Ravens anything for ousting Billick. Now it's time to start telling the fans the real stories -- the bad penalties, the divisive radio shows, the poor clock management, the questionable play calling, the bad personnel decisions...its all still there for your "objective" reporting.
Posted by: Bernie | November 8, 2009 5:25 PM
My theory of scripted game outcomes stands.
How can the Ravens shutdown an undefeated team 1 week ago and lose to a less complete team this week.
Greg Mattison, your time is up...
Glad I decided to clean my garage....at least someting got done today!!!
Posted by: Preztel Logic | November 8, 2009 5:31 PM
The ultimate front-runners. 3-0, Super Bowl bound and then reality.1-4 over last five. Need a more low key approach not a boarderline NFL Europe player like Kelly Washington doing a broadway review after a 5 yard catch!!! What a bunch of bush leaguers you have in Baltimore. It's not that the NFL hates Baltimore, it's just that the Ravens are not an elite team. No matter how much whinning, complaining about the refs or the league, or Ocho Cinco...wah, wah, wah!!!! Do it on the field and just play. Not dance, not cry, just play. You may get better results.

WHO DEY
Posted by: mawskrat | November 8, 2009 5:37 PM
Yes...Matt Stover made both of his field goal today for the Colts!
Posted by: Pam | November 8, 2009 5:41 PM
To once again point to the kicker shows no class Mr. Preston. This game was lost by the team. Matt Stover probably would have made that given his history, but the Ravens didn't deserve to come within a touchdown today. Anybody seen Rick Maese?
Posted by: mdlrvrmuncher | November 8, 2009 5:43 PM
Seriously, Mike? You think the kicker is the main reason the Ravens lost? There is boatload more to look at than a missed field goal. But, obviously, you can't get over your man-crush on Stover.
Posted by: Greg O'B | November 8, 2009 5:47 PM
Let's face it - the difference was that Cincinnati has superior personnel on both offense and defense. For the past decade, the Ravens have been an up-and-down franchise because the personnel guru, Ozzie Newsome, does not recognize and address the team's shortcomings coming off years when they are relatively successful (like last season). Case in point - the defensive line is loaded with interior run-stuffers, but Ozzie failed to go out and get a couple of leaner, more athletic defensive linemen who can pressure the quarterback without relying on blitz packages. Instead, he wasted free agent dollars on mediocre defensive backs Foxworth and Carr (not to mention the free money he gave a finished Samari Rolle) and used a 2nd round pick on a guy (Kruger) who can't get on the field. John Harbaugh, welcome to Brian Billick's world.
Posted by: Ray | November 8, 2009 5:51 PM
What does it say about a defensive coordinator that dosen't know when the worst player on the defense should have been benched in week two at the latest for the rookie cornerback. Then he finds out only when the Player gets hurt? How pathetic is it when the fans recognize it weeks before the coach- who is being paid. Sure makes you start to wonder about the coaching.
Posted by: Sec | November 8, 2009 5:51 PM
Remember who dumb the media told us Brian Billick was? Supposed "offensive genius" but could never produce a decent offense. Undisciplined teams that produced entirely too many penalties, up one year down the next. Now the media would lead you to believe something has changed with Coach Harbaugh, but here are the facts - Harbaugh, a man who made his living as a special teams coach and a defensive backs coach, now manages a team that is ranked 22nd in special teams and 19th versus the pass. Aren't those supposed to be Harbaugh's strengths? Oh, and then the special teams guru cuts one of the most reliable kickers in NFL history and replaces him with Haushka?!? To add insult to injury, the supposed "disciplinarian" Harbaugh's club leads the NFL in penalties. When will Preston start pointing out the shortcomings of Coach Harbaugh?!?!?
Posted by: Special Teams Guru | November 8, 2009 5:55 PM
Did anyone else notice that the Bengals didn't score after Webb replaced Washington at corner?
And why were we using Carr on the nickel?
Posted by: Bruce | November 8, 2009 5:56 PM
I thought that all of this was over when Billick was fired. OH i guess not maybe Billick was not the ONLY problem after all.WOW 8-8 here we come.
Posted by: Donta | November 8, 2009 5:57 PM
"If it ain't broke don't fix it". If Ravens had followed this advise, and kept Matt Stover maybe they would be 6-2 instead of 4-4. what they need to fix ASAP is outside Linebacker where Bart Scott was, the young guys ain't ready for Primetime, expect a few more running backs picking up 100 yds against the Ravens.
Posted by: Leroy Bruce | November 8, 2009 5:57 PM
Chads deoderant gift didn't help. We still stink!!!
Posted by: G R | November 8, 2009 5:59 PM
This game was bad, play calling on both sides of the ball. Time to replace one coordinator. Replace the other after the season. Our linebackers are slow and defenese can not tackle anymore. Reed missed at least two tackles. But the officials did not help much also. I'm shocked the replay one agreeed in our favor. Worst game of Flacco's life as a Raven.
Posted by: Joe | November 8, 2009 6:19 PM
Matt Stover? Why? So the Ravens could lose 17-10?
Posted by: Jim | November 8, 2009 6:21 PM
with very exceptions, these players let everyone down. On the plus side, we don't have to shout ourselves hoarse any longer this season. We can put forth the same lackadaisical effort 90% of the Ravens put on display today in Cincinnati. As for me, I'll watch the games, but with as much passion as I saw the Ravens put forth today.... which was not too much. Lastly, the FG kicker can never be relied on. Oz, you made two very big mistakes this year: not having Stover to kick FGs and not signing Jim Leonard. there replacements have been total failures.

I participated in the live blog today as the game was being played. I couldn't agree more with what Bruce posted at 5:56 PM in this section. Bottom line is Webb needs to play a more integral part (ASAP). I noticed that when he came in, not only did the production numbers for 85 fall off the chart but Cincy failed to score a single point. I realize my next comment may be crazy, but would there by an "upside" to possibly converting Demetrius Williams to CB? He's big, incredibly fast and powerful. Bottom line is that when a play is going bust, coaches apparently are telling their QB's just throw it deep and theres a very good chance one of the Raven's DB's will get called for a penalty. Obviously I wouldn't make this recommendation if he was able to put up somewhat decent numbers but clearly he is not a very good route runner, so I say get creative and see what he can do on the other side of the ball...
Posted by: David | November 8, 2009 6:40 PM
it was LOFT (lack of friken talent)
the secondary is not a pro caliber
group...the tackling by the defense
is poor...the defensive line and
lb's are ageing...the offense did not
establish the run therefore no good
passing game...the ravens are not a
playoff caliber team....wonder how
the O's will do in the offseason
to improve their team...

Mike Preston: I can't help myself. Anyone seen Ted Marchibroda? Is he still
with the Colts?
Posted by: Jim | November 8, 2009 6:48 PM
I'm already thinking about next year because the Ravens are toast, done, down and out for the count. They cannot lose another game and they surely will get blown out by Indianapolis, or Pittsburg will beat them twice again. No chance this bunch goes undefeated the rest of the year.
Big question. Will Harbaugh bring Mattison back? He doesn't deserve to come back, this defense has regressed tremendously this year with essentially the same personnel as 08.
Of course, ultimately the blame goes to the coach and right now, Harbaugh, he ain't exactly set the world on fire this year with his coaching. Penalties, and lots of them, and lots of them on defense, poor tackling all season long, today was especially horrendous, bad defensive scheming, throwing way too much earlier in the season and coming out today totally unprepared to play. Well, Harbaugh's got a lot to answer to right about now
Posted by: LouieNCanton | November 8, 2009 6:50 PM
Wow, today was a lowpoint for fans for sure. Unfortunately, I don't think many of the players care much about that.
So many penalties and missed tackles. Ed Reed was just as guilty as the other guys in the secondary at making half-assed tackles. Nobody on the defense with the exception of Lewis (and Webb today) wants to hit anybody anymore. Still can't believe we gave up Jim Leonard to give Suggs the big money.
We keep hearing about players worrying about aggravating an injury, but let's face it, our defense has gone waaay soft. And if injuries are keeping guys from playing hard then why are they playing at all?
I agree with other writers. The Ravens are NOT a playoff team. We won't be again until we draft about 15 more players like Ray Rice, who's effort on the field is evident each and every game.
Posted by: Hink66 | November 8, 2009 6:55 PM
Oh Joe Flacco...he's the greatest thing since sliced bread....he's going to be the greatest draft pick in Ravens history....based on ?....what his 16.7 quarterback rating in the afc championship game....oh thats right he plays well against the afc west and the browns oh and the dolphins...all we hear about is his strong arm...but i cant remeber seeing so many underthrown and high sailing passes that require spectacular catches and total body scarifice.....were tired of winning games 10 to 7....well now you can look forward to losing games 30 to 14 and switching AFC north position with the bengals.....hey atleast you can still look down at the Browns.....Flacco throws the football more deliberately than Jim Palmer used to throw baseballs.....any decent NFL corner will always capitalize on such a long body contorting throwing motion....darts not baseball's [see Dan Marino/Joe Montana/ Steve young/ Dan Fouts/Troy Aikman]...I know the whole sports world is so in love with his pretty blue eyes and has already done a commendable puff job without merrit for him.....he throws great straight line intermediate passes and he has good pocket prescence....although he refuses to run forward and stops in the pocket as if he's in an invisible cage that prevents him from running forward and picking up a few yards ?...come on Hennison Jamesley,Calfheard and Murray...give us some more homer articles about how everythings alright now tha good old Joe's here....so much for objective journalism.....they should have drafted a good corner... no defense no win's...Johnathan Joeseph is just as important to he Bengals as Joe Flacco is to he Ravens...all the years the Bengals had all the passing offense in the world they never won until they had a complete competitive [including at the corner position defense].....its football not the Young and The restless heart throbbers and man crushers.
Posted by: Rob | November 8, 2009 7:01 PM
Harbaugh says our players have the "hearts of lions", and that they are "mighty men". Well, today, they didn't have any heart at all, let alone lions. Mighty Men?, looked more like might mouse out there to me today, lack luster, no energy, they were bullied in every aspect of the game. And once while on the road, can the Ravens just pretend that after the opening kickoff, they are already down by 2 touchdowns with 1 qtr left in the game? Then maybe the sense of urgency will kick in before the game gets out of hand!!!
Posted by: chuck marsingill | November 8, 2009 7:50 PM
Mattison is in his 50's and had one year - one year - of NFL coaching experience and that was last season as Ravens linebacker coach. Rest of Mattison's coaching career has been at the college level preparing teams for defending the veer, wishbone and option offenses. Harbaugh hired him cause he is a personal friend of Harbaugh's father. I hope Bischotti holds Harbaugh accountable for practicing this version of nepotism and ruining the 2009 season.
Maybe Bart Scott was right when he said Rex Ryan was the brains behind the Ravens 2008 season and not Harbaugh.

Posted by: UOPMBA | November 8, 2009 8:01 PM
This was a very serious and pathetic loss. It is a shame for all of us that the Ravens brass, namely Ozzie, fails to go out and get us the help we need or allow Harbs to let great players go without cause. Any reason D. Williams who is fast, can jump and catch the ball over those little corners didn't see any time until late in the 4th qt? Yes, Harbs/Cam has a beef with him for some reason. Ty Law just got signed by Denver, smart, why in the world didn't we sign him? Harbs didn't want to look bad for cutting C-Mac, bringing in Foxworth, Carr & F. Washington! L. Malloy and others on the street are better than what we have now. And what can we say about getting rid of Stover, like he was some crub and not Mr. Automatic and consistent, wow... 2xPburg, Indy & Gbay, it's going to take an believable effort by the Ravens to win any of those games and we can't just count a W against the others so we are in trouble. Ravens fans deserve better, when are we going to get at least your best shot and offer Ravens brass?????

My prediction:
Colts go to the Superbowl...
Stover kicks the winning field
goal...
Priceless
Thats sad coming from a die hard Ravens Fan. Sorry, except for Ray Rice and Lewis out there today..None of them played with heart. And I'm not sure I can support them with mine after the sad display today.

lack of discipline and inconsistent play = poor coaching, and it starts at the top. harbaugh enough with the "hearts of lions" BS. a team with the heart of a lion would not play so well one week and so poorly the next. enough with being mister nice guy. it's time you started acting like a real head coach and tell these players and their coaches like it is: that their performances have not been as good as they think themselves to be, and that goes for your performance as well. it's embarrassing to think this team was once rated no.1 in power rankings when in reality they were never anywhere near that good, as their recent play has shown. get a grip, or mark my words, the ravens will lose to the browns next monday night.
Posted by: gordonlee | November 8, 2009 8:30 PM
Um Rob, you sir, are a HATER..Flacco threw for 380+ AT MINNESOTA..He's has better numbers than Ryan, and has more wins, with less offensive talent. He's the best of the very young QB's. He had a bad day. SO WHAT..He's in his second freaking year. And in terms of the "years when the Bengals weren't winning"...LOL!!! THEY STILL HAVEN'T WON ANYTHING...the fact the Bengals fan base is thumping it's chest at week 8 shows that it's a loser franchise.
As for the Ravens....GREG MATTISON MUST GO! he's only hired because he's Harbaugh's friend...he's in over his head.
As for Ozzie Newsome...yes, he missed on the DB's...but he also drafted Flacco, Rice, Oher, Grubbs, Gaither, Webb, and Ngata...not bad I'd say..yes they have holes, but they are set at O-line, QB, and RB for years to come..not too bad...this is not their year...that's just how it is sometimes..

I'm starting to believe that Rex was the guy running the team last year ! Harbaugh does not seem have control of this team !
Posted by: bill Bean | November 8, 2009 8:41 PM
bill Bean,
All the Harbaugh lovers refused to believe this when Bart Scott said it earlier this season. Harbaugh is the one in over his head. This team played over it's head last year, as many do when a championship winning coach leaves, to prove they can win without him. Harbs Honeymoon is over and Joe from Essex and the rest of the lemmings are finally seeing it.

Just to add my 'two-cents:' How everyone's demeanor changed so quickly. When the Ravens were 3-0, we were bragging and boasting how great we were, and how we were going to the Super Bowl.......5 weeks later, the Super Bowl is just a faint whisper!!!! Shhhhh!!!!!! Fans are giving up and throwing the towel in.........Some are talking about next year.......Would not surprise me if they sell their season tickets on E-Bay. What a shame!!! What happened to fan loyalty? If the Ravens were winning, these people would be singing the 'Ravens praises.' Fair-weather fans??? Some of you know who you are......
I do agree that the Ravens should have kept Stover........Perhaps we should give Steve Haushka some time to develop.......Like the old saying, 'Rome was not built in a day.'

Wah! Wah! Wah! Ther officials? Get a grip and stop drinking the koolaid. The Ravens got their butts handed to them by a quicker and better team. Ask Ray Boy what it was that he was going to do to Cedric Benson. Hell, ask Big Mouth if he can spell Cedric benson. Old, slow Ravens,

It starts with coaching. The game was over with the Bengalls first touchdown. With Ngata out of the game, what in the world was Mattison thinking of when he called for a 3 man rush on third and goal? That Palmer would suddenly forget how to throw a checkdown pass to the end zone with 5 seconds or so to get rid of the ball? An absolute head scratcher. On the bright side, maybe Rex will be available for next year's team with the way the Jets have been playing lately.

Flacco was staring at his receivers all day. No wonder they were never open. It was like watching a bad nightmare starring Kyle Boller. And if the TV commentators are questioning why there was no pass interference called on the Bengals, then we really have a problem. The officiating was horrific. Neither of the times the Ravens used a challenge should they have had to use one. The refs had a terrible spot on the one and the other with Ochocinco's foot, the ref was 5 feet away, how do you not see that? I think the game is moving too fast for these old guys.

Out of curiosity, I googled the Baltimore Sun after the Raven's loss to Cincinnati this Sunday.
The Raven fans are even tougher on their team than the Cincinnati fans are on the Bengals after a loss.
The Bengals had a miserable performance against the Texans after a few good winning performances and the fans lamented which Bengal team showed for that game
The Ravens had a great winning performance over Denver last week.
I hope that the Raven team that showed up for that game shows up when the Ravens play Sh##sburgh. We Bengal fans hate the Steelers as much as the Ravens fans do.

To Mike Preston: your question, "where's Stover?" is a good one. But I have a better one: where's that mythical beast known as "Stover's roster spot"?
The whole reason Horri-baugh did not keep Stover was because they wanted to use Stover's roster spot on a play maker that could help on special teams and/or defense. If anyone can tell me precisely who that person is, I'd sure be grateful.
Is it Kruger? No, he can't get on the field.
Is is LJ Smith? Ditto.
Walker? I hope not.
I mean, seriously, this was a major mistake. We let Stover go, and the resulting "roster spot" is used for players who haven't sniffed the field. THIS MAKES NO SENSE! It was stupid to let him go, and doubly stupid for not using the players occupying whatever was his roster spot.
Horri-baugh wanted a play maker, but forgot that Matt Stover was probably the most important play maker on special teams.
This move shows a frightening lack of judgment.

Sean Bungle,
Your ridiculous comments about Pittsburgh is the reason you get no respect. Instead of worrying about Pittsburgh all these years, why don't you worry about your own organization. Maybe you would have won something by now. .

Has anyone seen T-sizzle lately? The last time I saw him, he was standing in line at the bank.

Nobody ever respects the Bengals. Fine. But Cincy is simply the better team this year. Cincy has usually had better players at the skills positions, but Balt had the better OL, DL, LB, and secondary. That's not the case anymore. Cincy's OL is stout, and our defense is pretty good. Add Palmer and Co., and you get a team that can compete with the best.

The truth thats matters is Carson Palmer once again killed the secondary. He is 8 and 3 against the Ravens in his career. Every time they kick the ravens @ss, we all find excuses to why they loss. We never credited the Bengals. Let's keep blaming the refs, its not them. The game is on the field, not with trash talk. Ced Benson 100+ yrd again. Obviously Chad's deodorant didnt help, this team stinks. Credit to Cincy....

For as terrible the D played in the first half..the switch to Webb and the Bengals were shut out the second half. Bengals D and Marvin Lewis have the Ravens figured out

One of the foremost stats about the Ravens this year is that they are the most penalized team in the NFL. It's pretty sad when you give up nearly 100 yds in a game in penalties. Sure we can blame some of it on officating, but most of the calls have been legit. How many drives this year have we spotted the opposing team's offense 30 yds. on pass interference calls? I like John Harbaugh, but he needs to give this team a wake-up call. The penalty problem is caused by the players, but it has to be fixed by the coaching staff. We also need to revamp the whole defensive backfield. I've never seen such sorry pass defense. Get a real kicker and invest in a real pass rush to put some pressure on the opposing quarterback. One guy (Suggs) can't do it by himself. I hope I'm wrong, but we have too many issues to even think about the playoffs.

Ed Reed obviously is concerned about his neck injury which is why I guess he has looked like he is playing flag football instead of tackle for the last three weeks. No one wants to take the chance of being paralyzied. But if he can't or won't put his shoulder into a receiver or running back then time for someone else back there.

Basically you all got what you deserved number 84 has been no called in the past to the point of being penalized for throwing off his helmet, now we get the no call game and you all are mad? Not fun when the rabbit has the gun is it? Who dey!!

six calls that fouts thought the ravens got screwed on...you cannot play the refs and the other team...it's unreal...really? derrick mason wasn't held on the pump fake at the 4 yard line? I can go on and on...it's obvious the defense is playing soft because everything is a penalty...ed reed thrown down on a punt---no call....I can go on and on...i'm sick of it...it's BS...we all know it...these aren't excuses..they are absolute realities
??? you sound like a Bungle fan.... the refs have screwed them for years, because they wern't any good. Suck it up, and tekll the old man (Ray Ray Lewis)to retire and shut his mouth. He looks/acts like a fool

Is that all you people do is cry after getting your behinds handed to you. You were beat by the better team get over it.
Posted by: John | November 9, 2009 12:01 PM
Where was Ray on that goal line stand when the Bengals ran it in? Cincy opened a hole and Ray was there, but all Ray did was put his hands out to keep from getting in the way (or run over). They might have scored anyway, but the old Ray would have at least lit the guy up.

Ozzie and Harbs should be ashamed of themselves, I'm watching a 35 year old corner that just came in off the street on Friday, covering Hines Ward like a blanket and Ben can't find anyone to throw the ball too. Oh, his name? Ty Law!!!!!!!! What the hell? What have you been doing in the palace in Ownes Mills? Nothing!!! Because if you were doing your job and trying to make this team better, you would have signed HIM or Lawyer Mallor or anyone else, even C-Mac that could help us. Clearly a 35 year old CB that missed all of camp and just joined his team on Friday is way better than anything we currently have in our defensive backfield.. Dam Shame!!!!
