Harbaugh: Reed's not at risk

A week after Ed Reed blasted Denver’s Knowshon Moreno to force a big fumble, the Ravens safety was conspicuous for three missed arm tackles in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Although it was an uncharacteristic performance for Reed, coach John Harbaugh said he doesn’t believe it was the result of Reed playing hurt.

“I think he’s tackled very well this year, up until this game,” Harbaugh said at his weekly news conference Monday. “Obviously, the hit against Denver was as good a tackle as you’re ever going to see. From my understanding, the neck is as good as it’s been in two years, but I think it’s a factor. But it’s not a dangerous type thing where he’s at risk, or he wouldn’t be playing.”

Reed, who has played the past season and a half with a nerve impingement in his neck, had five tackles in the 17-7 loss to the Bengals, and forced another fumble when he stripped Chad Ochocinco. But he also whiffed on three would-be tackles, twice against wide receiver Laveranues Coles on a run of 8 yards and a pass of 32.

“He’s worked extremely hard in the weight room,” Harbaugh said. “He’s as muscled up as he’s been since we’ve been here in the last two years. So I think Ed’s worked really hard to get himself in position to play really well. I’m sure he’s disappointed with those three tackles. Those three tackles are tackles you normally see him make.”

Injured or not, Reed remains a playmaker on defense. He has forced fumbles in three of the past four games and returned an interception for a touchdown. After he stripped the ball from Ochocinco at the Ravens’ 36 in the fourth quarter, he recovered it himself, ran 13 yards and then lateraled to Chris Carr for 4 more yards. That series ended with a missed field goal by Steve Hauschka.

Harbaugh is a goof, I heard Ed Reed say himself that he is playing with one arm in an interview after week 2. Why all this cloak and dagger crap from the Special Teams Guru? Who's he fooling? Certainly not opposition, this is their livelihood. Stop being a goof, Harbaugh.

Ozzie and Harbs should be ashamed of themselves, I'm watching a 35 year old corner that just came in off the street on Friday, covering Hines Ward like a blanket and Ben can't find anyone to throw the ball too. Oh, his name? Ty Law!!!!!!!! What the hell? What have you been doing in the palace in Owings Mills? Nothing!!! Because if you were doing your job and trying to make this team better, you would have signed HIM or Lawyer Mallor or anyone else, even C-Mac that could help us. Clearly a 35 year old CB that missed all of camp and just joined his team on Friday is way better than anything we currently have in our defensive backfield.. Dam Shame!!!!

Dear Anonymous, calm down big boy(or sweet girl?), the world's not going to end just yet.Don't you want to see Foxworth get burned against the Colts numerous times and have something really to have a stroke on??

The Ravens are playing with two wounded safeties and two lousey corners........eight and eight will be lucky.............very poor choices from Harbaugh and Ozzie the past two years are showing up now and it hurts...............Don't even get me started on the coaching of the defense and special teams , Harbaugh is a joke........where have all the studs gone ?

Maybe the coaches need to look at themselves , Ozzie as well for making poor choices in the player's we picked up in the off season , Ozzie watches football and he knows very well that most of the recievers in nthis league now are 6ft and over , so why would you pick up a small corner , and after C-Mac left the Ravens , a player of his caliber should have been put in his place, Foxworth , Washington and Carr ,they all suck as corner's , even Landry looks totally lost out on the field , but I geuss they won't admit they made some mistakes in drafting ansd in the off season for more physical players....

Gimme a break. The team had an off week. They clearly aren't as bad as they played on Sunday, just like they aren't as good as they played a week ago. But you can't take one game and turn it into an indictment of the team management, any more than you should be inducting them into the hall of fame on the basis of the Denver game. The truth is somewhere in between. For my part, I'm still optimistic that they will get their act together before the end of the year.

apparently, Reed is playing with a severe neck injury, a pinched nerve that's weakening his arm. He's risking serious injury every time he suits up. Maybe he needs the money. Let's let him go out with dignity -- the season is shot. The Ravens have thrown too many good playhers like Stover, under the bus.
