Harbaugh: Hauschka is the kicker "Monday night and going forward"
In talking to reporters for the first time since trying out two kickers Tuesday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the team remains committed with Steve Hauschka.
"Steve is our kicker. He’ll be out kicker Monday night and going forward," Harbaugh said. "We said it all along. Steve is a talented kicker. His percentage is actually way above what some guys have had who have gone on to become very good kickers in this league. But we want him to make kicks right now."
Harbaugh added, "For the most part, he’s kicked well. He’s had a couple of misses that we’d like to have had back. But that’s part of the process."

he misses one more kick that matters and he's gone! We screwed stover and now it's screwing us.

This is great news! After Ray Lewis and Ed Reed retire we'll have our kicker of the future!
Did we draft this guy in the first round or something? Harbaugh has lost his mind. it sounds like he's "establishing" the parameters of successful special teams.

I would expect the coach to say that and for the kid's sake and the sake of the team, I hope he is right. Harbaugh's position, however has no cover. This situation has now devolved into a castle or a s***house scenario for the coach, the kicker and the team.
Good luck Steve.
I keep having a recurring nightmare of Hauschka shanking one left attempting to send the game into overtime. At the post game press conference Stan White asks Harbaugh about the Ravens playoff chances and Harbaugh Goes off like Jim Mora to the 5th power.

CYA response by Harbaugh. He made a fatuous decision that will likely keep us out of the playoffs. Instead of finishing 10-6, Ravens will probably be 9-7, worse if another game comes down to one kick. Two AFC West teams will get in because of that decision. All Ravens fans will suffer because of his decision. He must not have been aware that generally 2 or 3 games each season are decided by a field goal.

What would you expect the coaches and Ray to say? "We blew it. We let loose of the 3rd most consistent kicker in NFL history on a team that was believed primed to make a super bowl run. Now we have a kicker that looks like a deer in the headlights"? Of course they're going to back him, they have no choice. Bad move on the Special Team's Guru's part. This kid will cost them the post season and if the Guru Harbaugh keeps being so boneheaded and afraid to confront these guys, he'll lose his job, as well.

The kicker is dreadful, but he is not the reason we're losing. That's why it is a safe thing to say for Harbaugh right now.

You people crack me up.
Yes Stover is and was great but he was great because someone gave him a chance to be great.
Do you think Stover stepped on to the field the first time and was great?
go check the stats... 1991 Stover went 16 out of 22 on FG's and 33 out of 34 on extra points,
Stover can't kick forever so sooner or later we had no choice but to find us another kicker.
Steve is gonna do just fine but we have to give him a chance first.
The way i see it Steve is right around what Stover was his first year. So lets stand behind the guy, and give him the chance to become great like Stover.

I agree with the party line and Jeff but how about fans at M&T hold their breath next time Steve jogs out onto the field for a field goal and if he makes it,give this guy a rousing, thundering round of applause?

Jeff, he had his chance. The Ravens should have kept Stover. Why try to correct a problem that didn't exist in the first place? I would have thought Stover would have retired a Raven, been put in the ring of honor, and later do the local RaveTV in the pre-season. Big Disappointment front office! You guys made a lot of bad choices this offseason. Need to correct them this offseason...Carr, Foxworth, and Hauschka--FIRED. Need some new blood at the DE position. Price is too old. I really believe Harbaugh kisses the old players' a$$es so that he feels he has control of the locker room. God knows the people he has brought in that have the mentality to buy into his plan have not been performing to the TRUE Ravens' type of football that we all are accustom to. To prevent the old playmakers still on the team from tar and feathering Harbaugh, he makes over them whether they do good or BAD. Well, sucking up can only take you so far...More of the same losing, and you'll have your playmakers turning on you. Harbaugh needs to get NASTY. Show them who's boss. Step up to the plate Harbaugh or get out of town and save us the time!

I agree with Jeff. Stover missed 3 field goals in the first 4 games last year, including one in the Titans game we lost by 3!!! If you look at last seasons scores, the difference is our defense was getting their job done. So Steve will be fine! My concern is our Defense. Are they getting old or is our scheme just soft? I think it is some of both!

I am embarrassed by how dumb some Baltimore sports fans are. Youre presented with #s that prove it was the right decision, yet you still argue we should have kept Stover. He was 16 for 22 in his first year, and he missed a kick that cost a game last year. Not to mention, he'd iffy over 40 yards, and can't kick off. I love Stover, and appreciate all he did for us, but it was time to move on. Haven't you wondered why no one called him until their own kicker got hurt ? What do you think will happen when Vinitieri comes back ?

Kickers will miss kicks... but the good ones will make them when it is a must 98% of the time.Steve is chokester.
