Harbaugh: Flacco's ankle is not a major injury

Joe Flacco’s sprained ankle is “not a major injury,” coach John Harbaugh said Monday.

Flacco, who first injured his ankle Oct. 18 at Minnesota, said he “re-rolled” the ankle in the beginning of the second half of the 20-17 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He noticeably limped through the remainder of the game.

In the second half, Flacco was 14-for-23 for 153 yards and was sacked five times.

Harbaugh said it’s hard to quantify how much the injury is affecting Flacco.

“I’m sure it’s bothersome for a quarterback to have that foot a little bit sore,” Harbaugh said. “Joe is a courageous guy. You see him standing in there and throwing in the face of some pressure and taking some hits. He’s not shy about that. That speaks to the kind of player he is.”

Flacco said the ankle only needed to be re-taped.

“It felt good the rest of the time,” Flacco said. “You have to give Pittsburgh credit. They tried to come after us and we stood in there tough.”

one thing is sure, the kid is tough and don't flinch under pressure... The steelers send everything after him all game long, the kid took some huge hits but he stood there. He played like a Ravens, with his heart, and his gut...

Harbs is right , it is not a major issue but I would be concerned the way Flacco is moving around inside the pocket. He doesnt look like the same Joe that was the QB in weeks 1 thru 3. Obviously it is bothering him.

Here's a innovative idea -- Give Joe a bye week. Remember how Dixon ran for two big gains against the Ravens. Matison wasn't planning for defending against a mobile QB. Cam should create a gameplan suited for Troy Smith's ability and the Ravens shouldn't announce the change until Sunday. It will be a challenge for Dom Capers to adjust and it will give Flacco a chance to let that ankle heal. I don't care what Harbaugh says, the ankle is affecting his throwing ability.

Call me crazy but I like jojoman's idea.I don't think Joe has lost throwing ability, but, that ankle needs a rest if we're ahead by 17 in the second half.Of course,I'm dreaming about that lead happening, but, you never know if Cam starts eating choc.,drinking coffee at noon, sleeps the night before in his jock strap and grows a beard all week.He might just call the wildcat once each half.PS- please don't throw to Joe as a reciever?!

the wildcat is ran pefectly by the Dolphins when Ronnie Brown is healthy because of Ricky Williams. Why can't we run Troy, Willis/Rice & McClain??? Just a couple of packages, it would be a new wrinkle, give Joe a couple plays a quarter off and gain some real yards rushing.... ?????
