No surprise: Ravens make no trades
The trade deadline came and passed, and the Ravens didn't make a trade. Surprise, surprise. That was very predictable, except in new-wave journalism. With the Internet and so many sources of information, you can't tell the lies from the truth. And yes, we have a lot of storytellers here in Baltimore.
If you believed some of them, the Ravens had great interest and were willing to trade for receivers Terrell Owens, Joey Galloway or Dwayne Bowe over the weekend. That startled me because I thought the Ravens were going to possibly trade for Bo Diddley, Bo Jackson, Bo Bo Brazil or Bo Derek over the weekend.
There are two times of the year when you can count on reading a lot of speculation, and that's the week leading up to the draft, and the weekend before the trade dead line.
It gets ridiculous after a while.

The Ravens should have traded for a DB.

Mike, how do you REALLY feel about your co-workers?

Hey, Mike, don't talk about your Sun colleagues like that. To paraphrase John Harbaugh, they're being "The Best Journalists They Can Be."

In Sundays game, there was a block in the back by a Viking player which showed up very clearly in live telecast. A flag was thrown and the announcers said the penalty was there. Then the officials conferred and the flgas picked up with a "no penalty occurred comment" from the referee. The announcers never said another word.
What happened? I know announcers are son scripted that they dare not say anything controversial, but baseball has replays of umpires' calls, but on this NOTHING???!!!

Mike, since when is there any significant tardes made in the NFL anyway. It's nothing compared to other major sports.

Yo Mike - just stick to providing your insightful commentary on how Cam cameron should run the offense. More Willis McGehee and less throwing the footbal? How'd that work out against the Vikings? Just out luck Cam decided to listen to you for once. There's a reason the Vikings have one of the top-rated run defenses in the NFL. It wasn't until we put Flaco in the shotgun and used the pass to setup the run that we started having any success. So, please no more advice from you on what the Ravens need to do to win. If the coaching staff reads the paper it may cost us another game!

Buzz Klopp,
The announcers actually did explain what happened. They said that the ref's explanation was that the block started at the front of the defenders body then moved to the back of the body which apparently is legal. With that explanation it still sounds like BS to me.

Mike , as you have stated many times , our problems are on defense and there were no players available to trade for that we could use or afford. I think it would have been a waste to trade for an offensive player at this time, our offense is good enough to go to a Super Bowl ,but our defense couldn't go to the Calvert Hall-Loyola Turkey Bowl!

It's unlikely that a player brought in midseason would be able to contribute in a meaningful way till the following season. Not impossible, just unlikely. Unless you can get a player with a multiyear contract that you expect to make an impact down the road at a discount price, it's not worth making a move. Isn't the prevailing wisdom that you will overpay for anyone you trade for midseason...and if you don't it's likely a buyer beware situation? Good No move on the Ravens part.

@ripper these are the run/pass ratios for the ravens this year
41/43
32/27
23/27
17/47
18/31
18/43
Now take a guess to which games we won and which ones we lost, it ain't rocket science. Also take a look at our opponents run/pass ratio during these
last 3 losses
pats- 30/32
bengals- 34/31
vikings- 31/29
You called mike out for asking the team to run the ball more and said if the coaches read the paper it would cost us a game. I'm not only telling you but showing you that if we don't get back to having a balanced attack we will continue to lose games

The corner backs should run away and join the first circus that rails thru town. Every circus needs a funny clown act. Two weeks isn't going to mend the mistakes. You can't teach talent.

Bo Bo Brazil?? Didn't know you was THAT OLD Mike!

glen 907,
I agree that a better balance between running and passing would be ideal, but I think it's a little more complicated than that.
In the Vikings game we fell behind 14-0 quickly. Plus the running game got off to a slow start, so it made sense to pass more (it got us to within a flubbed field goal of winning).
The down side of passing is that it does NOT eat up the clock, which leaves our defense on the field longer. This was not a problem until this season.
Leaving the defense on the field longer is the biggest downside to our passing offense. Our offense is scoring points, whether with passing or running.
Something must be done to improve the defense: better schemes (3-4?, more blitzing?), a better mix of players (Paul Kruger, Zbikowski, Nakamura, Webb, less Frank Walker). I think we really made a mistake with our choice of D-coord. Look at what Mike Nolan's been doing in Denver. Our defense is not as good as it once was, personnel-wise, but I think that they are better than what we are seeing on the field.

A Bo Bo Brazil/ Haystack Calhoun package and Ozzie pulls the trigger.

We should have traded for a solid DB. The soft play of the DB's is the reason for the let down on defense. What happened to allof the blitzing schemes??? I know that Rex is gone..we still should have alot of the old schemes. Transitioning is one thing, but the defense has a whole new identity. If we don't fix it fast, there will be no playoffs.
