Cornerbacks can't cover or tackle
Cornerbacks aren't supposed to be outstanding tacklers, but the Ravens' are atrocious. One of the biggest problems with the NFL is that most teams are too concerned with plays and schemes, and they forget to cover the fundamentals.
Deion Sanders used to say, "show me a cornerback that is a great tackler, and I'll show you a corner that can't cover." With the Ravens, they can't cover or tackle.

Well, we just paid around 27 Mil for one of them so I hope he can do more than break dance.

The cornerbacks last year could not tackle either, but we made it to the AFC Championship game. When will everyone recognize the 800 lbs gorilla in the room? ie: Mattison.

frank walker is a bone-head par excellence. favre knew he was gong to get a call even if the receiver missed. he should not just be traded, he should be exiled on an island with a socker ball for company. on the other side, joe kid manned-up big time. we need to build an offense around him, and rebuild the d. they have no pride or fire, ray is a flame onto himself.

who is Baltimore sun .com........I said this about Washington when Newsome signed him from the raiders who used the pick to draft Tyvon Branch a guy who's just as fast and more of a football player than a trackman like Washington..Newsome said ''we didnt feel like their was anyone in the draft [that year] that was better than Fabian'' which was a ludicrous statement.....Foxworth is clearly worst than Washington who has actually improved but is still very mediocre..Speed is an essential quality for an NFL corner...but it means very little without instinct and fundamentals....it's football not track Ozzie...the Raiders the most unfundamental team in the universe let this guy go because he couldnt tackle and was fundamentally unsound....hello Ozzie and Eric....fundamentals can be taught talent and instinct cannot....Obviously Drafting cant be taught either.....Ladarius Webb is the first corner I had listed high on my draft board that they actually drafted....and the best they've drafted had since Dwayne Starks and Chris Mcalister....he should be starting along with The slightly improved Washington....Foxworth should be on the bench....the idiotic thing they did this year was allowing big /fast/ great hands having Sean Smith to pass so they could draft Paul Kruger who will probably never be as good as Jarret Johnson already is.

You can't rely on Ray Lewis or T Sizzle to be covering your butt off of missed tackles all the time. You either are tough enough to make the tackle or you're a prima donna cover guy yelling "help" as soon as the ball carrier heads your way.Take the chance and earn a couple bruises for your efforts, please.

If we don't fix the defensive woes in a hurry, it will be a long long season in Baltimore. Basic tackling is taught and learned in Jr. High Football. These Ravens keep flying throught the air like they're Superman or something. Meet your man head on, watch his hips, then make your move. Stop looking like acrobats in a 3-ring circus and focus on good tackling and coverage techniques. Pay attention to assignments. Stop blowing the simple coverage responsibilities. Their is such a thing as organized chaos. Right now, the Ravens look like complete chaos, without any organization on defense.

I think the Ravens need to go after a defensive tackle. You know we had a chance to get Jason Seymour before he went to Oakland. I think the Ravens corners have always been overated. The pass rush hides all the flaws. ie where is kelly Greg and Pryce this yr?

As far as secondary goes, Ed Reed is still the man! He can't have an interception at every game, but he's still the man. He was probably the best Raven on the field in the Cincy game. But our corners need to man up big time, I agree with you Mike. We got a bye week, then facing Denver and Brandon Marshall, who is needless to say, a beast. How do you win against a team with a receiver like Brandon Marshall, when we basically got very poor corners?

On a lighter note guys, I think the jinx of the "coach's old job" is going to continue.
Brian Billick came to B'more as an offensive coordinator and stunk up the joint in that department for all these years. Now Harbaugh comes as the -- you guessed it, Eagles secondary coach -- so be prepared to have a really bad pass defense for as long as Harbaugh is here.
On the flip-side, we'll have a good offense and run defense, and maybe a decent special teams (there might be the carryover of Harby's previous role).

Reed gets a lot of the glory in the secondary but he doesn't really cover well either. There are also too many times when he's not where he's supposed to be. Sometimes that leads to a big play for the Ravens but sometimes it leads to a big play for the opposition.
The worse the pass rush the longer the DB's are exposed and the deeper the routes get.
This year's version of the pass rush has been poor and spotty. The blitzes used have led to more exposure than pressure because there has been little if any penetration up the middle and that is the quickest way to the QB.
Get a little better rush, stop taking chances and improve technique and schemes...right now those are the best options available because there are NO good DB's just sitting around somewhere.
Maybe the urge to get a big play receiver is an effort to just flat out score the opposition.
