Relentless Ray Lewis shows up in San Diego

Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis had the biggest stop of the game Sunday against the Chargers, but he had several other plays that were even better. He once stopped running back Darren Sproles on a swing pass in the right flat one on one in the second quarter inside the Ravens' 5-yard line. He had 12 tackles, but just as important, he moved quarterback Philip Rivers several times on blitzes.

He has slowed down in his 14 years in the league, but to still play at this level is incredible. He is relentless and seems to enjoy the game now as much as he did when he was a rookie. To be able to watch Lewis and former offensive tackle Jonathan Ogden throughout their careers is just special.

I was one of those that wanted him on the next train out of Bmore last year after the contract antics. However, he made all of us forget that episode with yesterday's performance. Welcome home Ray-Ray...

Thanks Ray,Ray whew. Glad thats over. The ravens must be drinking their own kool aid. Come on the defense isn't fine, it isn't better then last year, its frightening. Our secondary is awful, just awful. Stop making stupid excuses and do something positive.

Everyone has heard of "Manny being Manny"...well that was "Ray being Ray!

@ grey- rivers is one of the best qb's in the game as is shown in the monsterous contract he got. i admit, the secondary looked shaky, but rivers was dropping the ball PERECTLY. if we allow another 400 yard passer let alone another 350 yard passer i would be surprised

Ray was just great and as usual a difference maker. This defense will be OK. Wait til week 8 or so and then we'll see. Two of the most prolific passing days ever against the Ravens are found oddly enough against the 2000 "greatest defense ever" bunch. Why? Can't run on them. Rivers was throwing superb and we do have to improve, but we will. This early in the year it is completely about wins, doesn't matter how, just win. It's not how you start in this league but how you finish and our D will be strong at the end if we stay healthy. This was a huge, great win! Enjoy!

when i saw ray at camp a few years ago i let hm know what a pleasure it has been watching him play on sundays for so many years and he thanked me for the comment. GREATNESS is the only word that can describe the way he plays. preston was right about the naysayers that wanted ray out of bmore. one big game from ray and now everyone is eating their own crow. i too loved the play where he ran down sproles in the flat. vintage ray lewis yesterday. the guy was everywhere.

awesome win. secondary needs to work on communication so we can get ed in on some big plays. it will come in time.

The Ravens gave up the second most passing yards ever by a Ravens team. The suprising stat is the first and third most were given up by the 2000 team.

Yep, that's right. The great defense of the 2000 team gave up more yards in a game then what the Ravens gave up yesterday.

Stop panicking. When the other team can't run the ball they are going to air it out. The defense made the plays they had to.

Lewis is a special player. He is the heart of the Ravens. Should be no doubt about that in among any of us. That said, we won the last two games because we scored 30 or more points in the two games and we gave up over 50.

I love Harbaugh as our coach .. would not want anyone else (thank you Cowboy coach for saying NO) ...but tell me again, why was Rex Ryan passed over.. looks like we will need to score 25 or more to win. But, let's be fair we're 20.. and don't look a bit like the hapless Redskins.

Rex Ryan took the '46' defense with him to NY.

Where were the blitzes? Why don't they put in Kruger and the other backups to give Pryce and company a breather?

It was a great win against a playoff caliber team on their home field, however my only complaint is that I would love to see Suggs play up to that hefty contract of his.

Big players make big plays....

Thats simple!

the last comment should have one more line added.....Big time players make big time plays in big time games.....WOW....what an amazing game and play by Ray Ray!!!!You have to give the Bolts alot of credit.....Rivers is a jerk but he is one heck of a qb...he is as good as they get right now....he is right there with Brees....move over Brady and Manning!!! their receivers are just ridiculous and Sproles is downright scary....with all of that and the Ravens still got it done!!! way to go!!!!

when Ray gives it up as a player I expect him to become a coach!!!

Ray Lewis is a shell of his former self. He was left UNBLOCKED! Luckily the Chargers have terrible coaching or this would have been a loss.

yeah,it's almost as good as watching Parker and Moore. watching Lenny, back pedal into the end zone ,against San francisco,in '57 was REALLY SPECIAL!
Parker's coming around the corner on anybody was special! talk about the look of absolute fear in someone's eyes!

The high level at which Ray Lewis continues to play reflects his unstinting commitment to fitness. He is a "tough cookie" and an inspiration to everyone who is not prepared to "age gracefully."

He is worth every penny of his contract.
