McAlister to Oakland?

Former Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister was in Baltimore over the weekend, and apparently has told a few people close to him that he will eventually sign with the Oakland Raiders.

McAlister is not believed to be near playing shape, and that could take another week or two.

It makes sense that McAlister could end up with Oakland. Raiders owner Al Davis has taken troubled players in the past and given them second chances. McAlister is definitely looking for another opportunity.

If his knees are healthy, he can still become one of the best defensive backs in the league, possibly as a safety.

Excuse me Mike the NFL expert, but isn't Al Davis the OWNER of the Raiders and not the coach?

There was a time giving talented players a "second chance" worked for the Raiders, but that time seems to have passed them by. Today, when every team has fast, tough, skillful players, what makes a winner is the players' attitude, drive and team spirit, all of which CMac lacks.

Bucktail, can you read. He stated that Al Davis is THE OWNER of the Raiders, not the coach. It is well known that Davis, who did serve as Raiders Head Coach before buying the team, is the de facto coach of that team. Cable and the others that came before him, with possibly the exception of Gruden and Shannahon, were all figureheads.

"McAlister is not believed to be near playing shape, and that could take another week or two. "

Hmmm, I guess it isn't too hard to play in the NFL if it only takes 1-2 weeks to get into shape to play in the NFL.

@Bucktail

Al Davis calls all the shots. Period.

im from the LA area and am a member at the same country club, and from what i gathered hearing him speak a few weeks ago, the Raiders were not the team he mentioned he would be going to, though i know things change quickly in the NFL so that may now be the case

The Ravens are paying McAlister $10 Million this year to do nothing. For $10 Million if he is healthy I would have him on the field somewhere. If he is not healthy then I would have him working 40 hours a week cleaning the locker rooms...

Make no mistake about it, Al Davis is the Owner and the Coach of the Oakland Raiders. He's always had a say in who is on the field. Back in the day, even during the games he had a say in who was on the field.

hey bucktail...did you even read the story...not one time did mike say or imply that al davis was the coach...he clearly states "Raiders owner Al Davis"...maybe the sports world and the world in general would b better off if people stuck to talking about stuff they actually know and not running off at the mouth about stuff they don't

I swear I called this move over the summer! I just though Vick was going to go to Oakland as well...

Why would he put his Cali house up for sale and move all the way to MD only to go back and play for Oakland? It makes no sense.

The ravens are not paying McCallister anything!!! You don't get paid in the NFL when you are released. We cut his Salary last year

Don Mandel, the Ravens are not paying Chris McAlister anything this year. NFL contacts are not guaranteed beyond the bonus money already paid out. Once they cut him, they were done paying him.

Stick a fork in him...washed up slowed down & over the hill. McToast should be on the dollar menu not on any NFL roster.

Oakland will beat Baltimore in the last game of the season which will have playoff meaning for both. Laugh now, cry later. Mark it down.

All you commentors waging your finger at me should know that he corrected the entry after me pointing out his error. He just didn't admit to it anywhere.

BIG G, thanks I didn't realize that Davis was once the HC of the team before buying them.

The fact is we need depth in the secondary. McAlister is not coming to start, just as Mike Vick wasn't coming to be our starting QB, and Al is not our coach. Al is the same as any other GM/owner like Jerry Jones, Dan Snyder, Mark Cuban, etc except for a longer track record of franchise success. Please stop these ridiculous statements always prevelant in these forums

Actually, Al Davis is not the owner. He is the Managing General Partner of the partnership that owns the team and now owns about 2/3 of the partnership, but he wasn't even a majority owner until 2005.

Actually, Al Davis owns only 2/3 of the partnership that owns the team, and he did not own even a majority of the partnership until 2005.

Raiders could just be a pown in the negotiations. Davis is the de facto coach but needs minions like Hanson. Raiders currently lack discipline/character. Davis loves the castouts but will have to sell another 10% (ie Hall, Walker) of the team to meet payroll.

SIGN SEYMOUR!

Please tell me Raiders Fan, how on earth will the Raiders make it to the playoffs (or even win more than 6 games) with JaMarcus Russell at qb? He completes about 50% of his passes, and can only read half of the field on a given play. And for you other Raiders fans, please get over your delusions that the Raiders remain a good franchise. Those days are long gone.

We need McAlister now. Swallow your egos and sign at least he can mentor our secondary if nothing else.
